PLEASE see the film called 'AMAZING GRACE'~Based on the true story of William Wilberforce, this film follows his courageous quest to end the British slave trade. Along the way Wilberforce meets opposition from members of Parliament, but his minister John Newton, a reformed slave ship captian who penned the beloved hymn "Amazing Grace", urges him to see the cause through.
Every time i listen to this song it makes me happy theres a god that loves me, for all the mistakes i make, he still loves me,it makes me want to serve him in everything he does
@swl3 according to wiki....John Henry Newton (July 24, 1725 – December 21, 1807) was an English sailor and Anglican clergyman. Starting his career on the sea at a young age, he became involved with the slave trade for a few years. After experiencing a religious conversion, he became a minister, hymn-writer, and later a prominent supporter of the abolition of slavery. He was the author of many hymns, including "Amazing Grace" and "Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken."
Words of Amazing Grace are on my truck´s inside wall. There I see them every evening and can myself sing this song, what I love so much. Thank you God, that you saved me.
Hello @ flipmcflop2 I can understand your point BUT its not God that causes the slave trade... BUT MAN for he has free will , and man alone causes misery in this life in all aspects .. NOT God
I first heard this in 1972 at my buddy Jim Dols place, it cut through my soul then and still does 40 years later... my good Lord where did the time go.... by far and away Judy does the closest to perfect version I have ever heard.... I beleive Angels take lessons from this track.
Probably the best song you'll ever hear, with the best singer of this song, such feeling. Elvis's favourite song, and played at his funeral. Excellent video, such beautiful pictures and wonderfully put together. Well done, made my day. Lovely field of cosmos flowers at the end.
@MrMickmonk John Newton wrote this hymn. And yes, he was a once mean slave trader turned into a gentle, broken regenerated Christian who was a great influence in the abolition of slavery in his area :) God bless you!
Actually, it's Christian hymn written by English poet and clergyman John Newton (1725–1807), and published in 1779. he wasn't a slave trader, but a curate in an English church.
@MrMickmonk Thats true, but the fact it represents the abolishment of slavery, surely that is more powerful than just celebrating a mysterious act of god? Great depth of humanity and genuine compassion is what god would channel if he existed, But really, what about the hundreds of other slave ships that were destroyed and sunk out at sea for decades prior to this? why would God just choose a few to save?
The Most "AMAZING" version of this Song by Anyone IMO...
There's just something not only in Judy's voice but also with the tempo that she sings the Song that gives you such a peaceful good feeling all over...
It's like you've all of sudden come in touch with the entire Universe around you...
this is the most moving version i have heard and can remember when Judy Collins released it the video is fantastic well done whoever made it great concept of the song thank you from my heart
This is the most beautiful song ever written and sung by the best person ever. John Newton would be so happy to know his song has lastest through the decades and known all over the world.
It's a straight forward, honest delivery, sung for the sake of the message. Not like how it would be sung today by pop divas jumping up and down the scale in petty play for their own ego. It's sad to know the era of honest performances from the heart are long gone.
würde sich bestimmt toll anhören wenn sie von michael hirte mit seiner mundharmonika begleitet werden würde, er spielt es sehr gefühlvoll, mit leib und seele. man spürt es einfach, hast ihn schonmal gehört ?
Every time i hear this it reduces a 42yr old man to tears due to a friend that meant so mutch to me who loved all animalls and was sutch a warm affectionate person who died last year due due to cancer.
@jennel802009, I fail to understand why people like you are so rare these days! Your spirit matches the song! Your words are also amazing grace to me! What a beautyful song.....the whole thing was sung complete acapella, but it seems that there is a huge orchestra playing in the background....but actually there are only melodic voices who make that lovely tune. That is realy awesome.
