This will likely be my last comment since it seems to me that you dont want to actually look at the evidence. Anyway, you are giving Kidd too much credit when it comes to helping teams. He had a large role, but In both Phoenix and New Jersey, Kidd was part of large roster/staff overhauls that brought in better talent. The same year Kidd arrived in Phoenix, Antonio Mcdyess and Clifford Robinson also arrived. In New Jersey, Kerry Kittles, Richard Jefferson, new coach Byron Scott and a few others.

The players I mentioned were efficient and prolific scorers while *still* putting up very high assist totals - higher than Kidd in many cases. To say they were "really scorers" makes no sense. They were complete players.

He's become a solid long-range shooter, sure, surprising and good for him... but overall he's still scores at a low rate and at a low efficiency. The other side of this is that his defense has become atrocious. He no longer has the speed to keep up with opposing guards. All players face decline, Magic did and so has Kid. Magic never really had long range, that's true - but Kidd could never even dream to score 20+ a game at 50-55% shooting. So I'm not sure what your point is.

Stockton was the best passer of all time, a great defender, and though he wasn't much of a scorer - he was a smart scorer getting his points at a high percentage, unlike Kidd. Also Chris Paul over Kidd... even though CP's career is just starting. And of course Oscar Robertson. Gary Payton is also in the discussion. Kidd is a first ballot HOFer, but give me Magic, Stockton, CP, Oscar and *maybe* Payton before Kidd.

The point is clear; the one you failed to adress. Above all else, Kidd has won his records by playing with poor teams. He joins up and makes them contenders. Magic played with a great cast of people his ENTIRE career, making his assist (his only real claim to fame) averages rather expected. Case in point; if Kobe stayed with the Hornets instead of playing with a large market LAL team...would he be the same player? I doubt it.

But if you insist on making that Kidd's calling card... well, fine. The year prior to the Lakers drafting Magic the Lakers went 47-35 and got bounced in the 2nd round. In Magic's first year the team went 60-22 and won it all, beginning a decade of dominance. Sounds like "making a team a contender" to me .

You familiar with PER? Its a metric that measures statisitical production. Has its flaws, but it can still tell us a lot about how much a player is producing. A PER of 15.0 is average. Magic posted some of the best PERs in history and his career PER is 24.1. Compare that to Kidd's career PER of 18.6.
