Another thought. My family never used belts, but I was a product of similar parenting, so I can say I believe her dad felt he was doing the right thing by doing whatever was needed to get her to submit. This isn't about if it's wrong to whip a child repeatedly for an upload; only one lashing was for that. The rest were for her refusal to lay and accept the punishment as instructed. Even disagreeing with belts, we wouldn't be nearly as upset over the 1 whack intended. So the real question is this: is it wrong to increase punishment until a child accepts it? I had this issue over time out. My child refused to accept it, so I kept raising the time until she did. Was that wrong?
