Got it, wouldnt buy it again, give me sram red, its the way of the future. 11spd Super rec is clunky, noisy and more expensive. Personally I prefer less lifetime on parts for smooth, crisp sharp functionality. Even my 3 year old dura ace is smoother and quieter. Save ya bucks, get red, that will be my next choice.
Andy i hate you! This vid makes me want to beg borrow and/or steal to get a Campag Super Record gruppo. A lot like what I felt when I was a broke teenager drooling at the Campag display at the local Europa Cycles shop in Sydney. Argggghh! I want it. LOL
makes me curous about campy components. im fairly new to cycling and i always thought shimano was the best. i may be feel otherwise after this video. good work andy.
I have recently switched to Campy, Record is awesome gear. I used to think that only old rich guys rode Campag. It's true, but it is for a good reason, it's the best.
@Bhousm76 '11 speed' refers to the number of cogs in the rear cassette. 'Compact' relates to the tooth range of the front chainrings. All Campy groups offer a 'compact' 34-50 crankset as well as normal 39-52/53 options. The 10 speed SRAM and Shimano groupsets offer similar choices.
@claudruiz Yep, I was out riding with a group the other day. I was riding my steel Singlespeed and beat almost all the other riders up the hills (including a guy on a Wilier Cento Uno DI2). It's lungs n legs that get a bike riding fast.
@trogedon Sure thing, single speed will take you so far and then you will suffer horribly. Try riding 100km and 4000 feet of climbing and get back to me.
Im not sure id say campys beautiful at all, it looks like its several years in the past. I much prefer the new shimano cranks where it looks intergrated and the rear dereilier on 7900
gotta love a used car salesman who talks about bike part longetivity and claimed cost savings and blatantly ignores the relative costs of the components that wear out most often, the chains, cassettes, aand chainrings. priceless
I'm laughing at this guy bragging about the longevity of a bicycle component! He's the type who has a new bike and component set every 3 weeks. I used to ride with a bike shop owner, he had a brand-new bike every week. He'd say it was for "testing" purposes! Well, I suppose it was.
If you keep care of your 10s group you will have no issues. Andy is selling based on newer improvements to the campy group, and not saying that all else campy is "cheeper" -- it's not. In fact, the 10s group was at the apex of being the best componentry out there,i.e., they had made so many little refinements that , well, the 10s group is still hard to beat. For example, the 10s Record group has a titanium bolt hanger -- you have to move up to the super record now to get that same hanger!
I would not worry. I have a Record/ Super Record 11 mix, coming from Record 10. The rear shifting is slightly faster and smoother, but the front is actually worse. I think the chain on 11 is simply too narrow to handle that large of a jump, which is also why Shimano killed off their 14 speed project in favor of Di2. Also you know Chorus 10 was the number 2 group behind record, and it really has more in common with modern record that chorus in terms of quality and materials selection.
You said you would sit on it, but you might be a Campy guy now. That was in November, when this video was uploaded, how do you feel about the new group now?
Impressive stuff! I see why Shimano is back at the drawing board already redeveloping its electronic line.

Campy might want to examine using PVD coating on parts made from none corrosive metals. Titanium nitride PVD coating is even stronger.

I suddenly get why Campy components are so expensive. They really have thought everything through to infinity...impressive.
Great review!

When was the last time Campagnolo came up with a real innovation?
I know it's not all about 11 speed, but anybody asked for it?
allgoo19 3 years ago
Not really an innovation, but I do believe these groups will last much longer.
