  • I really like this piece. My high school's band played an arrangement of this, and I got to play the timpani part, even though I'm a trombonist myself. It really is fun.

  • the whole percussion for this song is way fun to play

  • I was listening to another song by Steven Reineke, one I'm playing in band this year, and this was a linked song that sounded interesting to me. I checked it out, and this is AMAZING.

  • If you guys like this song you should listen to Fate of the Gods also by Reineke. They sound strikingly similar! This composition is pretty darn amazing!

  • @plainoldme0316 Albeit his works are great, I'm pretty sure a LOT of his works are the same.

  • this song sounds like it has been used in some movies in the past.. does anybody know if it has been used and which movie(s) if any at all?

  • @jbreee I'm nagging my band teacher to let us play this.

  • i love horn section

  • Not only marching but can this be played for concert?

  • I hear many of the same "themes" that he used in other works, but he builds on them differently. It's kind of like books that have similar stories but with different characters and events. Not all are the same.

  • @lkn4cgrmen i think a better example would be that his songs are like a books series. they have all the same "characters" that would be the same "themes" but what they do and how they do it change

  • I love the bass clarinet parts in his songs.

  • @ritoast1 I also love his oboe solos =D

  • Bass clarinet part on this song is rocking. I loved playing this song.

  • As I composer, I must say, that it is very difficult to make works that sound very different. I worked with Sam Hazo at an Honor Band, and in talking to him. He told me that each composer needs to find what their best at between Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, and Texture, and then build from that. Reineke has a lot of different ideas if you listen carefully. But make extremely distinct works from the same stylistic standpoint is hard.

  • My band is marching to this song this year! :)

    I'm excited!

  • My brother played this in band!!!! Man I wish he was in high school again... :(

  • @rainbeforetherainbow- But it doesnt sound good with only one. How many are in your band altogether?

  • @1998Cisco French Horns are amazing! The more the better. (Plays Horn) We have 4 this year but next year and the near future years, we'll only have 1. lol Our teacher's going to miss us.

  • I like how half of the comments on her are cms band kids

  • @rainbeforetherainbow- I play French horn too and it's not hard to get up to the a because there is no high a, although there is a high b at 168,169, and 170

  • @1998Cisco oh really? the one at @06:49? well i dont have the music.. so, my bad. how many other french horns are in your band?

  • ahhh, love this song, its sooo fun to play. were playing it for band contest:D we alllmost sound this good:D

  • also like Hans Zimmers music, maybe a little different melody, but the same cord structures, same rhythmics, same feel to the song, and the some instruments play the same type of back ground, just with a different melody.

  • @1995hammertime HE IS A GENIUS!

  • also like Hans Zimmers music, maybe a little different melody, but the same cord structures, same rhythmics, same feel to the song, and the some instruments play the same type of back ground, just with a different melody .

  • Hey, do you think you could Legend of the Sword by David Shaffer? It's one of my favorites and the music that you post is really crystal clear quality music unlike what other people post.

  • thats look like the witch and the saint

  • Wir haben das Lied dieses Jahr auf unserem Konzert gespielt. ich find des Lied einfach nur toll!!

  • 1st trombone part for this is soooo funn!!

  • I'm playing this right now and it sounds so amazing just like how it sounds here :), being that I play flute the part is wonderful :)

  • the beginning reminds me of star trek XD

  • I played this in my 8th grade band, and we have every instrument but the oboe and bass clarinet, so we had to have the 3rd chair flute play the oboe parts and the 3rd chair clarinets played the bass clarinet part. Now it didnt sound like this but at least we tried(:

  • @Jlundy12 Whoa, you played this in 8th grade band? This has got to be like a grade 4 piece, you guys must've been really good!

  • I LOVE YOU STEVEN REINEKE!!

  • Comment removed

  • Now im probably going to get yelled at...but all of steven reineke's music sounds exactly the same. And i mean exactly the same.

  • @elkers101 lol like robert w smith? P:

  • @pa5436 Or James Swearingen? XD

  • @pa5436 Correct :)

  • @pa5436 or James Swearingen?

  • @elkers101 haha try playing two of his songs at the same time!

  • @elkers101 but they do! haha they all have the same exact structure and style...he just switches the melody for each of them...

  • @elkers101 Not really. I mean they use the same instruments and have the same rythym but the melodies are all totally different.

  • @elkers101 ya they do sound the same, for the begining and middle are great but the endings are a little anticlimactic. Guess the good thing is that the songs are pretty :]

  • @elkers101 but if you think about it, hes the same person with the same feeling towards music. if yure gonna say that, didnt all of bachs and mozarts music sound pretty similar disregarding concertos and what-not?

  • @venskus2009 No i would say not. Stetven Reineke uses a very very very similar structure for all songs, and his melodies tend to overlap between songs. To be honest he is a mediocre composer who probably had one good idea and slightly tweaked it to fit new songs.

  • @elkers101 although... the first idea was very good. but i do wish he would have a little more variety. i played a song by him for the first time in 7th grade. thought it was awesome. loved playing it. then in 9th grade played another by him, and yes i realized right away the structure was exactly the same as the one from 7th grade. its not something easily missed.

  • @elkers101 Also.. like Alice in Chains?

  • @phosgate54 I'm not sure that steven reineke are very comparable. But i guess so

  • No you're absolutely right. his music does. I once played two of his songs in one concert lol.

  • @elkers101 I won't lie, they are structured exactly the same. The only real difference is the notes and rhythms. Still, I think this and Fate of the Gods, despite their multiple similarities, are both incredible.

  • @elkers101 It's definitely all in the same style, but I wouldn't say the music is the same. He's just got a very distinct way of composing P: And in a way, it can be a good thing. If you're a fan of the style, you're more likely to like all the songs, eh? ^^

  • @elkers101 Yeah, but it's still fun to play his compositions.

  • @elkers101

glad i'm not the only one lol:)

we played fate of the gods last year and witch and the saint this year.

i think of one without it blurring into the other eventually:)

  • @elkers101

I think Pilatus is the best of his work, and this one is good too, but it drags on way too long and seems to always build to something that isnt worth it. The rest of his pieces have the same structure, and aren't worth it at all.

  • @elkers101 You mean... like every major composer... ever? LOL. Every composer goes through periods in which their music all sounds the same. It's not that they always take the same things and do them repeatedly, it's really texture that does it.

  • @elkers101 I feel like that's how most composers are though. Robert W. Smith, David Holsinger, Frank Ticheli at times, even Gustav Holst has similar moments. I think that each composer has a style and it's just hard to think outside that style.

  • @elkers101 exactly, each one is damn good.

  • went to nationals with song. earned my band a gold :) LOVE THIS SONG.

  • lol this is about as long as a whole marching band show

  • I love this piece. It's gorgeous. I wish the ending wasn't so rushed, but otherwise. Gorgeous.

  • @neoshain I agree

  • Playing this song for our highschool grade 11 band :]

  • Our band is playing this in Seattle this year we are going to kick some butt!!!

  • Steven Reineke and Frank Ticheli are my favorite composers. Listen to Vesuvius by Ticheli.

  • @MichiganMusician We're playing Goddess of Fire AND Vusuvius as well as Ride by Sam Hazo in my high school wind ensemble. It's a fantastic year. & I'm also from Michigan ;)

  • @MKayeC95 last year in my band we played vesuvius and rush by Sam Hazo. there is a very interesting story behind Ride, Rush, and Go. Apperently Sam Hazo was following Dr. Jack Stamp to his house but ,well, he had a hard time keeping up. HAHA. and so he wrote these three great peices about his driving skills.

  • @TheHornboss yeah my director told us that. I thought it was pretty interesting

  • @MichiganMusician oh yes! i agree! We played vesuvius and goddess of fire last year and now we are playing into the raging river by Reineke. Great stuff

  • I love the flute solo, at 4:19. So beautiful.

  • Steven Reineke is one of my favourite composers ever. I have done Goddess of Fire twice, and I did Defying Gravity (crazy difficult, but worth it) at our Summer Music School, all on the Tenor Sax.

  • this is our Marching Show this year! ^_^

  • where did you get this song? im looking for it to give as a birthday present to my girlfriend, she loves it, and i would prefer a CD, not a download.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING

  • amazing! purely genius!

  • there are 5 people who can't play this song so they just had to dislike it.

  • why pressed four people the "don't-like"-button?

  • I love this song. We play it at our orchestra.

  • I was actually there for the very first performance of this song. It was my HS that the song was written for. Plus my HS band teacher actually was one of Steven's Teachers growing up.Im truly lucky to say i have met such a gifted composer

  • i think the bass clarinet and basoon should be a little stronger, but otherwise i love this song.

  • we recorded this with my young wind band (8 to 18) in May but had to make a few cuts because it's so long and we didn't have all the percussion equipment. Can't wait to do it all though

  • I love this piece. My band (8th grade) played this piece. And we played very well, if I do say so myself. :D

  • Im a piccolo player sooooooo thats awesome

  • even tho its a long song its amazing!!!

  • My second favorite song only next to Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons

  • This guy's compositions are great! There are some strong similarities between this and The Witch and The Saint.... Yes, I am aware that he composed them both. He's awesome!

  • we had to play this for my school concert lol. I loved playing it. I did the Vibraphone part =)

  • i love Steven Reineke's work! It's not very difficult music but it's the kind of music that is just a blast to play!

  • This song makes me remember when we played it in France in a tour.

  • check out my channel to see a piano arrangement of this piece!!

  • ha, the flutes who play the solo (three of them are playing it right now cuz they don't know who is going to play it in the end) don't play it right. it really irritates me, cuz i can play it correctly, but i have no opportunity to play the solo... :(

  • Heh. This song is so good.

  • there is no mp3 for iy how would i get it

  • you can rip it using youtube/mp3 converter from dvdvideosoft. i use it. :D. used to be on imeem and i ripped it w/ a firefox extension, but imeem shut down

  • @heythatsmeagain actualy if you just google goddess of fire steven reineke go to the barhouse one you can download it for fre.

  • @frizzlefryproduction Only a select few on the Barnhouse site are full recordings. Most are "sampler" recordings, which highlight most of interesting sections while cutting out much of the transitional material. However, most of the samplers are about 85-90% of the full song. And the good thing is that you can see the full score as well (it's locked so you can't print it off). A treasure trove for us composers out there!

  • @heythatsmeagain youtube to mp3.org ;)

  • this song is a beast to play, but its still amazing! 1st-4th clarinets ripped this song apart last year!!!! (2nd chair)

  • Go see something not meant for earth

  • This song was named after mr burns.

  • we played this in region band and i played contra bass clarinet and beasted it!

  • That was scary it kept cutting off at 6:45

  • wow

  • my high school band is playing this! it sounds so cool, but the 10/8 measures are difficult to count! it sounds so cool though! i only wish i weren't a freshman so i could get some of the flute solos... :(

i'm good enough for them, but i'm a freshy, so.... ya, enough said.

  • Our 9th-10th grade Region band is playing this.

'Tis fun, even the slow parts... just have to COUNT. And the 10/8 time... TOO FUN! (X

    *clarinet*

  • lol, FLUTE FTW!!! >D

  • A Wonderous song.

Too bad my high school band couldnt play it. like 90% of the band just sits and textx, pretty much blowing off the director. Its disgraceful : (

  • 6th grader's could always play this, just depends on how well. =)

  • i love from 6:00 till 7:15..its my favorite part!!

  • Good stuff. The band I'm is gonna perform this at the DCI's as part of our show.

  • ummm, who would that be? lol

  • I highly doubt you played this in 6th grade, this song has instruments in it that i dont think they could trust 6th graders with. This would be hard for high school bands, Good bands too.

  • actually the song was quite easy for my band in the 9th grade to learn

  • Oooook, but my point is unless it was dumbed down to a Class C or D level, 6th graders could not play this

  • sure, 6th graders could play it andrew. if they spend an entire year trying to learn something and assert themselves, they could learn this. =)
