With the information I believe to be true is that, Jack Johnson was a simple local boy from Hawaii playing his ukulele or guitar whichever it was on the beach singing the lyrics of this song to his family, and as he was singing a hoale (white) board member on vacation heard his calming tunes and practically begged for him to do a one year record deal with the company.

Oh, and in Hawaii no matter if you have different skin or blood we will all ways call you family.
