I got this far with the same group and stragety but i die alot. Freya is kinda a hard boss since she is the real last boss..i think. My brother used his combo-cancel bonus group but he died since Freya used Ether Strike. I hope i beat freya :)

When I saw your battle party I knew what was coming haha. Personally, my AI is trained well enough for Sophia and Cliff that I just have Sophia Explosion Storm, Cliff Max Shockwave spam at long range, and then I just control Maria for the whole battle, never really bothered with Thunder Flare, though I may try it that way, I used Aiming Device when I needed to knock her down.

It's a backstep, use the d-pad to step back or L2 + analog depending on your setting, it has invincibility frames so you can use it to avoid some enemy attacks.

That'd be the same as using Orichalcum in the main game. It's pretty cheap. Get your defense high enough and you take little to no damage.

The main game is about 60 hours and usually you end up at like about level 70 when you beat the main game. But after the main story, it goes to like 200+ hours of fun stuff.

i'd get back to working on it but my ps2 is messed up. it crashes a lot and refuses to read disks constantly, skips on cutscenes in most games, especially when they're not using the gameplay graphics, sometimes some of the sound or dialogue will stop or go out of sync, etc. my biggest problem with star ocean is it freezes a lot when i get into a battle or when the battle ends.

To nullify freya's attacks you need over 5000 defense, only fayt and mirage are capable of that at lvl 255. Also bring lots of stun bombs and use them when she tries to do ether strike otherwise, prepare to die.

It's an item you get in Maze of Tribulations 3rd flood, drop down in that 4 by 4 maze i think if u move left 1 spot from bottom right u jump down and you'll find it in a golden chest.

to get energy burst go to the maze of tribulation (if i am spelling that right) then go to floor 3 where there are a lot of rooms and you have to move them.i will show you a picture and where you should jump 0 will me rooms and X will be where to jump

Have to admit, this is awesome, but I'm curious why you used Sophia. Her casting time was dredfully slow and would often cause me defeats as I waited for her to heal.

Still cool that you beat Freya, I never got that far myself.

Sophia can set all of her better spells as battle skills so you really shouldnt be casting them manually in the first place. Thunderflare cancled into ThunderFlare is one of the best stunlocking moves in the game and since she can cast it the entire battlefield away from the enemy shell more times the not be the one revieing your party when it gets wiped out by big attacks. Also she can give added support to the party with her healing and buff spells.

Well now I know how maxing works. Sacred Ether, which you obtain from Freya isn't that good of a weapon for Sophia because she attacks using spells and it focus on strength so i used a different staff to max her Intellingence

I set up Sophia with Rod of the Evil eye because I don't know what weapon was best for anyway set up was something like this Int 1000 int 1000 Int 1000 +30% Int 30% int increase +20 MP and for accesories Victory trophy (for faster MP regen) Regen Symbol 9for even faster regen) or Mind Saver to conserve MP Then i set convert damage to conserve HP by taking MP damage since she'll replenish it pretty quickly.

For the equipment, i got the same equipment as your but all i get is like everything negative except for +1000 attack. Cliff has really low MP, so I would definitely not make him an MP tank. I would just give him the standard max ATK w/Raging Anger and ignore the MP regen.

Doing post game can easily make that over 100 hours though.

I'm not sure what book you're talking about, but the Berserk skill (all characters learn naturally) halves Fury consumption. Make sure to turn it on in the tactical skills menu.

This is very much a real time game. Of course the menu is going to freeze for you to choose an item/spell or stop to think; it's like this in every Star Ocean/Tales game. Would you rather the enemies slaughter you before you can even use an item to heal yourself?

couple questions :

1- ive played this game a couple times, whered you get that "max shocwave" skill cliff has?

2- i never understood the "cancel" effect on skills, ive only ever managed 175%, how do you get to 300%?

Most of the secret skills are found in the post game dungeons (Maze of Tribulations, Urssa Cave Temple, Sphere 211 sealed floors). You find MS on Sphere floor 150.

You get a cancel bonus by, well, canceling battle skills. That is, pressing the button for the next battle skill before the first one ends. You can do this by doing weak normal attack -> weak battle skill -> strong BS-> weak BS-> strong BS-> etc or just by doing a weak BS-> strong BS-> etc. Cancel bonus stops at 300% but you can still go on.

Weird, hm, the AI should never run away on "attack with all your might!". I usually have that happen on "attack in a well-balanced manner!".

Meteor Swarm can only be used as a battle skill.

I like no HP/MP damage 30% of the time, Raging Anger during battles (1/2 defense), protection from paralysis and + 20% HP/MPs depending on the character and maybe some +500/1000 ATKs if I need extra to max ATK.
