why wasn't he using the entire side of the road to his advantage?!?! Leaning way too much when it isn't necessary & not keep yellow to white & white to yellow rhythm to make turns

After watching several times, it does not look like his tire ever made it to the yellow line. His leg bobbles just before he goes down. It almost looks like maybe he his boot (boot between road and peg) and freaked him into just dumping it down (just takes one small nudge of the handlebar at that lean angle).(or the foot bump could have unweighted the wheel just enough to slide it).

@teasemeagain A motorcycle still retains the vast majority of its traction on wet pavement. This motorcycle went down because of poor riding skill. The rider wasn't using a delayed apex to negotiate the curve...he entered the curve incorrectly. @tugboatwille youre a moron. you do realize that the majority of incidents reported are due to HARLEY riders wrecking. your typical SS rider is much more safe than 99.99% of any driver on the road. I see this stuff happen there every time i go. Dragon didnt bite you, lack of technique and knowledge on how to ride did... it is clear the second he starts zig zagging. what does that do for you exactly? because im sure its not what you think.
Well the car being able to keep up with you tell the whole story. But looks like you hit a slop in the road with your peg... could have happen to anyone.. keep riding!!! but be safe :)
Puppalucci is right. His front end washed out on the painted line causing him to lowside it. In the damp / wet .. stay off the paint, kiddies ! its like glass !
Need to work on body position bro. Ur outside leg isn't holding the tank like it should and u need to open ur hips to the turn. Sorry u wiped out man. B safe out there bro.
Poor cornering positioning of the body.. thats all. (no tyre glaze no wet road no loss of grip) didnt lean his own weight of to one side. all he did was poke a knee out and leaned the b ike itself over (INSTEAD OF HIMSELF) AND THE PEG HIT THE ROAD CAUSING A LEAVER EFFECT LIFTING HIS BACK WHEEL OFF THE GROUND.
Ironically, that curve is named Beginners' End. Low speed lowside to the ditch is the best crash you can hope for at Deals Gap. If you must crash there, that's the best way to do it.
And a little word of wisdom for you crotch rocketeers, wagging the bike at the beginning of a run just tells experienced riders you have no clue what you're doing.
the reason he crashed was because he hit the dampened yellow lines with the tire... those lines when they are damp are pretty slick compared to the roads surface... we use those to burn out sometimes even when its not wet cause they have less traction...
He has taken the apex to early, come in to aggressive on the center line - at the angle he is at it's very easy to drop your bike on paint. You can see he hit his pegs after he slips on the lines, poor bugger would be devoed
Doesn't look like the roads are too wet. Doesn't take much to lose traction on the paint though. This goes for everybody! Learn how to lean before you go sticking your knee out there. It does nothing for you except make you look goofy when you don't do it right.

Been there but did not crash.... parts of the Dragon are damp all day long (at least when I was there for 3 days). SInce there are so many tall trees covering the tail and the mountain draws drew/rain.. it is hard to tell until.. to late. Of course, I dont knee drag, and I also ryde with a passenger 98% of the time there. Nice place though !
he think cuz he sticks his knoee out he is a pro...you need to learn how to ride and corner the proper way...try California superbike school for corners..or stay off the road you putz!!!!
This may sound like some crazy questions odoritz, but how was the wind blowing on that day that he went down and do u think that affected his handling of the motorcycle?
When will people learn that you must get your upper body off to the inside of a corner and dropped down so that your head is at the level of your handlebar. Just sticking your knee out is not proper riding position for a corner. Taking a corner with the correct body position will reduce the amount of lean angle your bike needs to carry and thus, reduce the chances of exceeding the limits of traction. It's not just for the track.
@zenrr1 I gotta agree with you...I'm more of a cornering guy than an "All Out Speed" guy and in faster corners I always get down and "bar level" so to speak along with a touch of counter-steer. But you let "the secret" out of the bag. I've always been more than able to run with faster bikes on my porky 12 yr old CBR1100 because of this technique over the bolt upright and stick out a knee style! LOL!
@zenrr1 so true most bikers will look at this and think ok hes exagerating the movements hes gonna be off very quickly lol. but what you are saying is the reason i believe that ppl should learn on cbr 600's specifically the f3 (95-98) i do corners at 80mph with about a half a cm off the tire wall and no were neer a knee down.
it looked like he had plenty of traction, he just leaned too much and crossed over the line and either freaked out or touched with the foot peg. or maybe the front tire slipped on the painted line like most comments here suggest
Either he hit the rear brake or just wasnt accelerating fast enough out of the turn. Either way it was a lowside and hes lucky. Pick it back up and keep riding man, things happen.
@bjmc202 yeah thats waht it looked like to me as well. Hit the paint witht he front tire and it went out from under him. That shit can get slippery as hell once it get some water on it.
Gonna have to say it was the paint that did it... If you watch close you will see the skid mark start on the paint ... Its happened to me...Be safe everyone
I believe the blame was the yellow line, the ink used in these bands does not provide good grip. When I go to ride I void these bands and any other horizontal signs.
I believe the blame was the yellow line, the ink used in these bands does not provide good grip. When I go to ride I void these bands and any other horizontal signs
im a beginner rider...had a quick question. a second before he falls, he brings his knee in, does that have anything to do with it? or was it just a matter of grip and thats all. thanks!
@DemonPhyre You're right. Neither wheel hit the line. If he'd moved his lazy arse off the seat and kept the bike more upright then he'd be ok. Lots of 'experts' on here can't see the obvious.
"keep coming with your excuses as to how bad your buddy is as a rider" your talking to me although I know the people in the video, I think your a tad confused. I've no idea where this place is, also I drive on the other side of the road. Man up? lol, some people on here are crazy.
It looks to me like you were just starting to put the tire on the line before the rear gave out. Bad juju. Painted lines have ZERO grip in wet. And still bad grip dry. Very expensive lesson to learn, but glad it wasn't worse.
@TBagger489 how stupid are you? your video. okay? your video, does not even show him touching the yellow lines. YOU'RE AN IDIOT. he went down several inches before the yellow lines. i love newbies on bikes that think they're ready for the tail. take your ass back to the parking lot.
His front tyre touches the line and that is EXACTLY the moment he loses grip, sure his rear is a couple of inches away from the line but surely even up there on your high horse you can tell that if your heading towards the apex of the corner the front of the bike will be closer to the inside than the rear and you call me an idiot? I love youtube gansters, take you ass' back to rehab yo!
@TBagger489 keep coming with your excuses as to how bad your buddy is as a rider. and if you stick with him and behind him, that means he's better then you. sad. you two are not ready for dragons tail. not being a gangster here. just stating riding facts. maybe you should stick to four wheelers. and, i wouldn't try and put my knee down if i were you. get the experience first, then the feel of your bike.
He lost it braking on the double yellow. The yellow paint is slick as ice all the time. Doesn't matter how warm your tires are. I broke traction on those just accelerating one time. I didn't crash but it was a real sphincter pinching moment. Moral of the story: Don't brake or accelerate on the yellow lines.
i dont ride bikes so correct me if im wrong, it looks like the reason he fell is coz he pulled his leg (knee) in... it looks like thats what caused him to go off balance and tip the bike over.
@kornkluivert Actually when you ride, the idea is to look through your turn. Which this rider was doing fine until that second, if you watch just before he pulls that knee in(which is when he spooked himself and backed off his throttle) he went from looking through the turn to looking down, or right in front of his bike. The mantra is "look where you want to go, if you look down you'll go down". The wetness of the road didn't have much to do with this crash, he just got a bit spooked.
@dbc1dc i couldn't have said it any better. looked like the front lost traction after going through the median line and down he went. careful with the painted areas of the road guys. wet or dry they can hurt your traction.
@wideangle852 you fucking ignorant piece of worthless dog shit! the biker made a mistake, but it can happen to everybody. the speed was definitly NOT too high, so stop bithcing around you son of a crackwhore. this happens. biker had 100% good gear, he wasnt speeding, but made a mistake, so what?
go and set yourself on fire, and if you have children, dont forget to take em with you, they may end up like you, fucking bastard.
@DuellMeNoob i deleted the comment left by wideangle before i read your response. bravo. i wish i hadn't. i wish i was as perfect as wideangle thought he was.
@DuellMeNoob . . inventive replies but I am really glad I got under your skin you NOB . . biker was too fast as always and you know it . . trying to defend such action is really stupid . . but then again thats probably you as well . . . . a stupid little small minded biker without a care for anyone and as such not even worth swearing at . .
He was absolutely not to fast, you obviously never had an accident like this. The thing he did wrong, was to pull back his knee, allowing the bike to bend down even furter which minimized the grip on the smaller front wheel and lead to the low sider. There is only one thing to prevent such crashes: bring your padded knee out.
@DuellMeNoob . . you really have learnt some words today haven't you? Well congratulations the special schoool is really doing its job . . perhaps next you could try joined up writing or even without swearing! That woud be a first I bet, a gold star day for you!
happened to me the other day on a wet roundabout... moreover i later found a leak from my oil filter... which is directly in front of the rear wheel....
lol, wet roads, lines, cars etc.. its never the rider's fault... I'm a biker, and i know if i fall it is my fault.. He wasn't a good biker, you see it directly in his way of riding.. A good rider knows before the corner exactly when and where his wheels will be.. So if he touched the wet line on purpose he's a noob, if i didn't touched the line on purpose, he's still a noob.. the look in cornering is the first rule... You brake, u look the middle of the corner, u get there, u look the exit.
hey erm i ned a little help with deciding what bike i should get, i have a choice between a Yahaha ybr 125 and a keeway superlight, limited edition 125. im only 17 so i cant get bigger and i am stuck on which to get. id like a bike that stands out from my age group as any teenager my age with a 125 will either get a crosser or a ybr or a cbf. the keeway is a tourer and its really nice on the eye as the ybr is a skinny bike. can someone with a little more knowledge help me :)
@adjlhh I'd go for the CBF. It's slightly better on fuel than the Yamaha and, in my opinion, is more easily seen by other road users than the YBR (I think it's slightly higher?). Also, I prefer the riding position of the CBF. On the other hand, the YBR has a slightly higher "cruising speed" (from my experiences). But in the end it's all down to you. Take a seat on both, take it out for a test ride if possible, then see which one you think you will prefer.
@jonathondeane yeah :) im really stuck tbh im also considering a honda cbr 125r 2009 model but the insurance is £912 a year so im just weighing it up atm, whats your view on the cbr?
@odortiz im new to this responding to comments thing, but i can see where you thought i was talking about you running him off the road. I ride bikes too, and ment if his accident caused me to crash also i still would have monkey stopped him haha. But it was a good thing you were behind him, but i bet you probably knew something like this was going to happened haha. So tell me....did he get in the car with you to go home hahaha.
@nightranger509 we met at the start and i asked if i could tape him. we took off up the hill and the closer to TN we got, the wetter the road got. i started thinking "i hope i'm not making a snuff film" seconds later he eats it. i helped him clean up and he rode his bike home, over 5 hrs away. did not envy him that day.
@ordortiz my bad, but you should have had a little more info. I take it yall were together. My satement says your the better driver, but i never said the car driver did anything wrong?
Dude you fell because you suck not because of anythinig else! Learn how to ride before you try something like that.

To ride proficiently, you use a delayed apex when taking curves, which allows you to take the curve safer and actually faster.

In the damp / wet .. stay off the paint, kiddies ! its like glass !

kinda obvious..soon as he hit the wet yellow line he washed out..
puppalucci 9 months ago
Poor cornering positioning of the body.. thats all. (no tyre glaze no wet road no loss of grip) didnt lean his own weight of to one side. all he did was poke a knee out and leaned the b ike itself over (INSTEAD OF HIMSELF) AND THE PEG HIT THE ROAD CAUSING A LEAVER EFFECT LIFTING HIS BACK WHEEL OFF THE GROUND.

awesome video! were u ok?
IHATEVANS 9 months ago
what bike is that?
Selfjell 9 months ago
Ironically, that curve is named Beginners' End. Low speed lowside to the ditch is the best crash you can hope for at Deals Gap. If you must crash there, that's the best way to do it.
And a little word of wisdom for you crotch rocketeers, wagging the bike at the beginning of a run just tells experienced riders you have no clue what you're doing.
Glad he was ok.
CreekDevil 9 months ago
the reason he crashed was because he hit the dampened yellow lines with the tire... those lines when they are damp are pretty slick compared to the roads surface... we use those to burn out sometimes even when its not wet cause they have less traction...

MDCVFIF 9 months ago
He has taken the apex to early, come in to aggressive on the center line - at the angle he is at it's very easy to drop your bike on paint. You can see he hit his pegs after he slips on the lines, poor bugger would be devoed

Doesn't look like the roads are too wet. Doesn't take much to lose traction on the paint though. This goes for everybody! Learn how to lean before you go sticking your knee out there. It does nothing for you except make you look goofy when you don't do it right.

Doesn't look like the roads are too wet. Looks to me like the rider hit the center line and lost traction on the front wheel. This goes for everybody! Learn how to lean before you go sticking your knee out there. It does nothing for you except make you look goofy when you don't do it right.
4rippedwings 10 months ago
the tire cant handle the weight of this fat guy leaning far to outside .

what i think happened is the road was wet and he hit the yellow line and lost traction
TheExtremeGreenBeans 10 months ago
Been there but did not crash.... parts of the Dragon are damp all day long (at least when I was there for 3 days). SInce there are so many tall trees covering the tail and the mountain draws drew/rain.. it is hard to tell until.. to late. Of course, I dont knee drag, and I also ryde with a passenger 98% of the time there. Nice place though !
nuffflavor 10 months ago
What a squid. Where did he learn to take corners? Hopefully he was OK but maybe he should take a riding course before trying to take on the dragon.
PsychoDaveFilms 10 months ago
He leaned too far and his foot peg hit the road. Doesn't look like a loss of tire traction.
timrocket2008 10 months ago
Rain or shine the road paint can be slippery and you can see his front tire slipped on the center line
CFSouldier 10 months ago
he think cuz he sticks his knoee out he is a pro...you need to learn how to ride and corner the proper way...try California superbike school for corners..or stay off the road you putz!!!!

This may sound like some crazy questions odoritz, but how was the wind blowing on that day that he went down and do u think that affected his handling of the motorcycle?
renegadebiker24 11 months ago
@renegadebiker24 wind doesn't really have much of an effect on motorcycle handling, so probably not.

roynexus6 11 months ago
Those yellow lines are so dangerous when wet............I almost crash in a straight line on a stupid yellow line./...
Deathunder 11 months ago
grip had nothing to do with it. you can clearly see his peg or foot touched before the wipe out.
gonzosc1 11 months ago
When will people learn that you must get your upper body off to the inside of a corner and dropped down so that your head is at the level of your handlebar. Just sticking your knee out is not proper riding position for a corner. Taking a corner with the correct body position will reduce the amount of lean angle your bike needs to carry and thus, reduce the chances of exceeding the limits of traction. It's not just for the track.
zenrr1 11 months ago 29
@zenrr1 I gotta agree with you...I'm more of a cornering guy than an "All Out Speed" guy and in faster corners I always get down and "bar level" so to speak along with a touch of counter-steer. But you let "the secret" out of the bag. I've always been more than able to run with faster bikes on my porky 12 yr old CBR1100 because of this technique over the bolt upright and stick out a knee style! LOL!
SR71BBFLYER 10 months ago
@zenrr1 so true most bikers will look at this and think ok hes exagerating the movements hes gonna be off very quickly lol. but what you are saying is the reason i believe that ppl should learn on cbr 600's specifically the f3 (95-98) i do corners at 80mph with about a half a cm off the tire wall and no were neer a knee down.
jackojeff 9 months ago
it looked like he had plenty of traction, he just leaned too much and crossed over the line and either freaked out or touched with the foot peg. or maybe the front tire slipped on the painted line like most comments here suggest

TBagger489 11 months ago
It looks to me like you were just starting to put the tire on the line before the rear gave out. Bad juju. Painted lines have ZERO grip in wet. And still bad grip dry. Very expensive lesson to learn, but glad it wasn't worse.
DasMidnightDrifter 11 months ago
Obviously not going that fast as the car was making no effort to stay with him, needs to address his riding style and skill set.

@vilentone Even still, he only fell off because he hit the yellow line, what more grip do you expect from paint?
TBagger489 11 months ago
@TBagger489 how stupid are you? your video. okay? your video, does not even show him touching the yellow lines. YOU'RE AN IDIOT. he went down several inches before the yellow lines. i love newbies on bikes that think they're ready for the tail. take your ass back to the parking lot.
vilentone 11 months ago
@vilentone
TBagger489 11 months ago
@TBagger489 keep coming with your excuses as to how bad your buddy is as a rider. and if you stick with him and behind him, that means he's better then you. sad. you two are not ready for dragons tail. not being a gangster here. just stating riding facts. maybe you should stick to four wheelers. and, i wouldn't try and put my knee down if i were you. get the experience first, then the feel of your bike.
vilentone 11 months ago
@vilentone My buddy? Who do you think I am?

AlferRot 11 months ago
@vilentone No they water the road in that part of country... lol.
Snipza 7 months ago
He lost it braking on the double yellow. The yellow paint is slick as ice all the time. Doesn't matter how warm your tires are. I broke traction on those just accelerating one time. I didn't crash but it was a real sphincter pinching moment. Moral of the story: Don't brake or accelerate on the yellow lines.
TheMotorick 1 year ago
Jeez, learn to read the road surface, its wet, take it easy!
ChanticleerHegemony 1 year ago
i dont ride bikes so correct me if im wrong, it looks like the reason he fell is coz he pulled his leg (knee) in... it looks like thats what caused him to go off balance and tip the bike over.
kornkluivert 1 year ago
@kornkluivert Actually when you ride, the idea is to look through your turn. Which this rider was doing fine until that second, if you watch just before he pulls that knee in(which is when he spooked himself and backed off his throttle) he went from looking through the turn to looking down, or right in front of his bike. The mantra is "look where you want to go, if you look down you'll go down". The wetness of the road didn't have much to do with this crash, he just got a bit spooked.
dbc1dc 1 year ago
@dbc1dc i couldn't have said it any better. looked like the front lost traction after going through the median line and down he went. careful with the painted areas of the road guys. wet or dry they can hurt your traction.

@wideangle852 you fucking ignorant piece of worthless dog shit! the biker made a mistake, but it can happen to everybody. the speed was definitly NOT too high, so stop bithcing around you son of a crackwhore. this happens. biker had 100% good gear, he wasnt speeding, but made a mistake, so what?

wideangle852 1 year ago
@wideangle852
He was absolutely not to fast, you obviously never had an accident like this. The thing he did wrong, was to pull back his knee, allowing the bike to bend down even furter which minimized the grip on the smaller front wheel and lead to the low sider. There is only one thing to prevent such crashes: bring your padded knee out.

mattkitch86 1 year ago
lol, wet roads, lines, cars etc.. its never the rider's fault... You brake, u look the middle of the corner, u get there, u look the exit.

hey erm i ned a little help with deciding what bike i should get, i have a choice between a Yahaha ybr 125 and a keeway superlight, limited edition 125. im only 17 so i cant get bigger and i am stuck on which to get. id like a bike that stands out from my age group as any teenager my age with a 125 will either get a crosser or a ybr or a cbf. the keeway is a tourer and its really nice on the eye as the ybr is a skinny bike. can someone with a little more knowledge help me :)
adjlhh 1 year ago
@adjlhh I'd go for the CBF. It's slightly better on fuel than the Yamaha and, in my opinion, is more easily seen by other road users than the YBR (I think it's slightly higher?). Also, I prefer the riding position of the CBF. On the other hand, the YBR has a slightly higher "cruising speed" (from my experiences). But in the end it's all down to you. Take a seat on both, take it out for a test ride if possible, then see which one you think you will prefer.
