What is all this..one better than the other...? HEY LISTENERS..it isn't about who's better.!!!! Just listen to all of them and enjoy ! Each has his own bag of tricks, each has wonderful things to say.
Hey, this is my new favorite versions of one of my favorite standards. Beautiful. I am beginning my guitar lessons and hope to one day play this in my own way too. I could never get this good though! Thanks!
What I appreciate about these musicians is that they do not rely on written music or chord charts, improvisation based on well memorized melodies, makes for true jazz.
Christian might be a little rusty. But as we advance in age some of us can't do as good as we once could. Django never got to that point so he always sounded good even when he first started playing electric which was probably somewhat of a tentative time for him trying a new thing.
Truly Wonderful Virtuosity...These guys really seem so Humble in their Greatness...and...They obviously are enjoying every note..The Music just comes from...`Out Of Nowhere`..WORD..!!
not a lot of rhythm drive...unfortunately. I know that this style is all about the soloists..but usually there's a more convincing rhythm section section and withy all the flurry-of-notes-stuff it doesn't quiet come off in my opinion (nothing bad about the players...the rhythm section need a bit more "pedal to the metal"
I wouldn't say this style is all about the soloists... actually its one of the most rhythmically inclined styles I know, but thats exactly why I agree with you. Rhythm here is weak, but I think its got a lot more to do with the on the stage sound than with the playing.
Why hasn't anyone talked about the smooth swinging rhythm? It embodies the likes of Artie Shaw and Ellington. It's impossible to find anyone who can play like that these days.
rosenburg improvises...they ALL improvise...thats what jazz....dont be upset because they are so effortless in their playing...it all looks easy to them....except escoude....who is perpetually having an orgasm....
When it comes to perfect choice of notes, clean execution and speed (not to mention swinging REAL hard) Stoch has it hands down...and I love Bireli and Christian Escoude. This isn't Bireli's best. As musicians, we can understand exactly how that is!
but about jazz guitar players i think the best was Joe Pass...really good technics, no hyper-steril speed, and a feeling that those 3 player can watch only by far
I agree...both Stochelo and Bireli are masters..but in terms of personal preference, I prefer Stochelo..Bireli seems more "technical" in his approach and sometimes tries to play too fast where the notes aren't clean..while Stochelo plays with more feeling and makes every note meaningful. Another great player to check out on here is Joscho Stephane. He plays like Django did in the sense that he'll sometimes interject some rhythmic ideas between lead parts to breath more "life" into the piece.
Apparently you must be...I have this DVD and there are more than a few occaisions where Bireli tries to go too fast and it doesn't sound clean..even he made a few faces where he knew he screwed up and went too far. All in all though..no one here can really critique them other than stating ones own personal preference when it comes to guys at this caliber. And keep in mind, none of the Rosenbergs ever took a lesson and basically play by ear.
Bireli tries to go too fast becorce he is a improvicing jazz musician who takes risks.Rosenberg doesn't improvise, every thing is more or less prepared at home, riskfree:)
Well, check your facts. The Rosenbergs Rarely if EVER rehearse, let alone practice. Apart from a few tunes where he keeps the chorus just like the original-but they are classics-(For Sephora or Bossa Dorado for example), Stochelo decides on the spot which way he'll go. After checking your facts you might wanna checkout my vids and see for yourself :)
stochelo does improvise ofcourse what are talking about! bireli is better in improvising i agree but i love stochelo's technique(dancing right hand and beautiful vibrato) its like every single note is the most important note in the world for stochelo. both artist's deserve their merit.enjoy the music !

Yes he did.

He did indeed, and the guitar kind of went out of tune. Which prompted Rosenberg to finish the 40bars and play the melody
