Everywhere I go in America, restaurants are full, bars are packed, malls are packed, and people are still going on vacation. We already had a collapse. Houses already corrected 40%, may correct more, but so what. Now young people can afford homes and can start families. Our economy is just re-adjusting. This russian is just pissed America hasnt collapsed yet. Only the overleveredged people will collapse. People with fixed rate mortgages are fine. 85% of people are doing fine.

You should take his advice and not stock up on food and guns, but have a skilled trade that would be usefull or things of value that you could trade with others to be sufficient, should the worst come to worst economically.

The economy has already hit bottom. Some of the banking sectors are already posting profits and the housing market is now starting to turn around with increased construction and greater home sales. Unfortunately, unemployment will likely rise higher before it stabilizes...which will in turn keep the economy from expanding. Ironically, our biggest economic nemesis China, has too much invested in our economy to let it collapse. Sorry but economic reality is more complex than this guy's theory.
China has nothing to lose. They stockpile US investments for financial warfare purposes. They can let the US fail because with the USD collapse, other currencies will appreciate and those people will be able to buy more Chinese goods. Of course, it won't be peachy for the Chinese people for a short while, but the US government will be bankrupt.

The IEA has stated that we will need 4 new Saudi Arabia's in the coming years to keep current production levels flat - account for decline in current fields. Also that decline rates are likely to increase. They know this much spare production doesn't exist. Since the recession many large projects have been canceled. If the economy rebounds, production levels won't be there to allow it. I do hope you're right but I "think" you're wrong.

Trade deficit is really a misnomer. It just means we're buying more imports and selling less exports. I hardly think it means our economy is any less strong.

This guy is so full of shit. The level of US debt is far less than Japan, & our dynamic economy always adapts to changes in the global economic landscape relatively quickly. More importantly, altho both US & USSR have abundant land mass & natural resources, the US (unlike USSR) also has an incredibly interconnected road, seaport & airport infrastructure, as well as an endless & reliable supply of electricity. Not to mention being world leaders in IT, biotech, logistics & other economic sectors

The economy has already hit bottom. Some of the banking sectors are already posting profits and the housing market is now starting to turn around with increased construction and greater home sales. Unfortunately, unemployment will likely rise higher before it stabilizes...which will in turn keep the economy from expanding. Ironically, our biggest economic nemesis China, has too much invested in our economy to let it collapse. Sorry but economic reality is more complex than this guy's theory.

China has nothing to lose. They stockpile US investments for financial warfare purposes. They can let the US fail because with the USD collapse, other currencies will appreciate and those people will be able to buy more Chinese goods. Of course, it won't be peachy for the Chinese people for a short while, but the US government will be bankrupt.

"An empty shell". That says a lot right there. Both the former Soviet Union and the U.S. spent so much money trying to buy allies that they neglected their own people. The Roman Empire was the same. The Empire armies can't be stopped but they come at such a cost that it breaks the back of society and then the Empires fall apart from the inside. Our societies want to conquer the new but not sustain the old.

We would see the EU sending over food aid to the former United States, to borrow a line from V for Vendetta...
We may see a collapse of the US along ethnic and ideological lines, you can allready see a few proto successor nations if you squint (New England, Texas, East Coast). May see an American Union of these successors plus the new powerhouse - Canada.
Thats probably the "Good End" if the US collapses...

The soviet collapse did not end up splitting the country into fiefdoms. So his logic goes from direct comparison in regard to the events preceding the collapse but then he invents an alternate ending. And since we can power trucks with electricity powered by coal, wind, solar,etc.. we will be ok with supplying stores with food. Please be positive and realistic about our future.

I'm surprised to see that you have such faith. The IEA has stated that we will need 4 new Saudi Arabia's in the coming years to keep current production levels flat - account for decline in current fields. Also that decline rates are likely to increase. They know this much spare production doesn't exist. Since the recession many large projects have been canceled. If the economy rebounds, production levels won't be there to allow it. I do hope you're right but I "think" you're wrong.

Peak oil advocates offer very little in the way of solutions. If we run out of oil we will have to switch to more earth friendly renewable sources. How does a trade deficit factor into a 'collapse'?? Just about all economists, even the liberal ones, agree that trade deficits really aren't that big a deal long-term. Trade deficit is really a misnomer. It just means we're buying more imports and selling less exports. I hardly think it means our economy is any less strong.
I mean, some states will have to produce, and some will have to specialize in intelligent activity and postiondustrial stuff. That's the global econ.

The matter of fact is that the US collapse would make all the other countries break down as well.
That's the big difference between USA and USSR crisis.
