looks like the van arrived just after the kid was already in the truck. they probably didnt know there was a kid inside, until it was too late. they were driving away, they were just avoiding getting hit. at 38 seconds you can see the van in the right side of the screen.

Believe me I am truly appauled by this but watching it I did wonder if the pick up was automatic transmission. If it was stick shift the kid has unbelievable coordination. However, his coordination could have been irrelevant coz by rights he cheated death. The outcome could have been so so so much worse.
