A Tawny Owl never calls "twit twoo". In fact the "twit" or more accurately "ke-wick" is a Tawny Owl's contact call and the "twoo" or again more accurately "hoo-hoo-oooo" is the male's territorial call. Consequently, if you hear "ke-wick hoo-hoo-oooo" it is most likely a male answering a female (or another male). Both can be heard in the recording.
Tawny Owls are extremely vocal and have many calls that most of us will rarely hear; many of these calls are described on God's Own Clay.
Its a fox. I live in the mountains of NC and I have heard these sounds many times, especially in the spring. Its very eerie and creepy though. But I researched it awhile back and its just fox calls.
actually that sounds like fox vocalizations, (i live in a fox populated area) although there is a slight difference but other than that it sounds pretty much the same, i mean, i hope this doesnt spoil the 'mood' or what not but....idk

Did you ever figure it out?
mangeese 2 years ago
I believe it was a bird of sorts, I saw something flying when the sounds were loudest, but I can't be sure that was what caused them.
Kopfnagel 2 years ago
It could be either a Racoon, Fisher Cat, Fox or Coyote
