where on the web can I find more imformation about her.and also are there any newspaper articles on the web about her story and what happen to her so called mother and father.Does she have any other family other than the doctors that took care of her.I did read somewhere on you tube that they gave her back to her "mother" and she regressed .
@VOIDMK20 I feel the same way about her. I wish she didn't have to suffer but it's beautiful the way her life and story effects one's heart. Thanks for what you said as well. Be blessed.
It makes me blubber like a baby watching this. My mom was enjoying her childhood like any other during the 60s and 70s of course but to know while my mom was making memories this poor girl's life was concrete and cold.
her parents was awful, some of the doctors take her only for fame, in 1975 Genie was returned to the custody of her mother who abandon her few months after, and after that few new homes and again she was physically abused and harassed, her development regressed severely. She returned to her coping mechanism of silence.
Now she leave somewhere in a privately run facility for mentally underdeveloped adults.
of course she didnt get better, none of them gave her love, hugs,.. she needed intensive affection to learn about emotional inteligence, i doubt anybody gave her that.. just a stupid hand.,. thats all
i feel terrible that she will never be free, she cannot be a free human becuase she cannot live now as a normal human, she will always be imprisioned. god bless her, give her a wonderful life by your side in heaven. amen
@MatthewRayDavila69 Blaming evil on God for not stopping it , instead of on man for committing it, is just a futile attempt to have God both ways. We want him to stop all the evil in the world when it's happening to US, but when it's OUR turn to steal something, cheat on our spouse or molest a child we want him to step aside. Multiply that exception times everyone in the world and guess what you have? All the evil in the world. God isn't evil. WE are.
Her father needs to be shot. Or if he's already dead I hope he suffered greatly. What kind of animal ties their child to a potty for 13 yrs? Uh I feel sick just thinking about it.
@Deannie21 He shot himself and before getting a proper sentence. He wrote two suicide notes, on one which he wrote "The world will never understand". Perhaps he was right...
This breaks my heart... who knows how many children like her are out there? Hidden, lonely, scared... How can people be so cruel? This world is rotten. But there is still goodness left, like the innocence of Genie, and that is worth fighting for!
I think it's beautiful that you were inspired by her to compose this song. It makes the song that much more beautiful. Genie had a beautiful spirit, she could have developed further if her doctors hadn't just given her away when they got sick of her. Truly sad, but I hope she finally saw happiness and found ppl who truly cared about her.
@TheLorax92 Actually a psychologist and her family did get her as a foster child. But her mother got custody ,could not handle her,and she went to several foster homes. In one home she was beaten and regressed totally .Now she never talks
@getexcitedd I believe she is currently resides in an undisclosed facility in Southern California. I believe it is better than your typical mental institution....
If only we were all born into good families surrounded by care and love and attention. If only we knew more about the things happening in the world. If only we could have saved her.
i wish i could help her. she was exposed to evil doctors, there was someone good for her but the jews got to her. they won't let people help her. they were terrible creatures.
@nVei06 "the jews"? wtf? Evil people did this to her. "Terrible creatures" can be found anywhere, they can come from any race any gender and any religion from any background. The sort of people who do this are "psychopaths" not "jews"
This was in the 1970's. She would be in her late 40's or 50's now. And that she resides in a mental institution in Los Angeles somewhere. Very sad. She was held captive by her own dad, who shot himself when he was caught by police. She also had a blind mother and an older brother. Saw her story on a documentary on feral children.
i mean i feel bad and all, but this is really creepy, like super creepy and like the video quality does not help one bit neither does the song......shit gives me nightmares bro.
@alx3610 You do realize that we learn by seeing. The first step we make in becoming who we are today is by watching what our parents do. She was stuck in a room all by herself. How does a baby act? Did they just learn to walk and talk straight from the womb? Of course not. These things are learned, they aren't just instincts.
@cbrun67176 Yes they do.....she was clearly made that way, they she was born with a learning disability, that would in no way affect her ability to develop into a normal talkign adult.
when i saw a documentary about Genie in my sociology class, i shed tears. what a sad story, what an abuse she suffered. She's also the victim of the scientific community. She's reaching out for love but she became an instrument for experimentation. When there was nothing more to "learn" from her, everybody disappeared. This missed something significant and obvious in their study: it's Genie herself that they missed out.
"When there was nothing more to "learn" from her, everybody disappeared."
That's a little misleading. The scientists really did care for her but the funding for the research didn't last forever. And remember, Genie's mother eventually got a court order preventing any of the scientists from seeing Genie again. So even if they wanted to continue helping her, they weren't allowed.
@SundaysCybele I am a feral child that for a part of my life, was raised by wild animals in the USSR. The way in how I was taken away from my wolf family was very violent and it made scares, because eventhough I was living with animals, I always remembered I was a human being. When I was discovered, I just refused to talk to human beings because I hade received more love and trust from them then I ever did from humans. My mom regained custody and the abuse never stopped.
I'm quite a cold person and have never been affected by emotional stories, but this is the only one that has provoked a real reaction. This is going to sound cheesy but since I saw this, not a day has gone by that I haven't thought about this poor girl. I'm sure this is the case for many others too.
same with me. I think about her all the time. First 3 days of learning about her, I was really depressed and I cried. I never played the lottery b-4 and now I do just so I would be able to afford to look for her and bring her home and make sure she never feels pain again.
where on the web can I find more imformation about her.and also are there any newspaper articles on the web about her story and what happen to her so called mother and father.Does she have any other family other than the doctors that took care of her.I did read somewhere on you tube that they gave her back to her "mother" and she regressed .

I watched a BBC documentary about Genie many many years ago.
She moved me so much and she never really left my mind.
Today I finished the book "Genie" by Russ Rymer and decided to see if I could find more about her on the web and ended up here.
Thank you for uploading the clips and images.
And for creating this very , very moving song.
Perhaps one day we will also try to make a song about her.
She deserves it.

Psychologists argue that Genie was not born 'retarded', she was made that way be social deprivation.

i really think that the isolation she faced made her that way.
