This just exhudes that 1980's feel! Reminds me of Banana-Splits, ShirtTales, Popples, KissyFur, and newer ones like Franklin and Toot and Puddle. Good stuff!
Does anyone know where I can find "The Get Along Gang And The New Neighbor"? It was a Disney read along book and tape.
There was a song at the end that goes something like "whenever I cry, I make a blue sky, now that's why I love you Montgomery. When I forget how to smile, we talk for a while, now that's why I love you Montgomery. When something goes wrong, you sing me a song, we all get along everyday. The fun will never end, my forever friend, now that's why I love you Montgomery".
Man, I think tv fucks with kids mind. When I was a five year old, i barely remember, but i watched this show. I wanted bingo beaver to be my best friend. Now, wether this feeling is normal for a five year old child i don't know, but it seems pretty weird in retrospect. If there were no television, that would never happen.
I'm so used to the series, all the voices seems...odd to me. Although Dottie Dog and Zipper Cat seem the closest to what they became in the show. Not a bad special, but Montgomery's "hick" voice is pretty distracting.
I was a fan of "Hill Street Blues" and Charles Haid who played police officer Renko was the voice of Montgomery. "Blues" was still running on NBC when this special was made and Haid probably was not available to play Montgomery for the subsequent series.
Mara Hobel (Dotty) played young Christina Crawford in the film "Mommie Dearest".
Wayne Robson (Hoofnagel) played ex-con Mike Hamar on "The Red Green Show".
Dave Thomas (Leland Lizard) played Doug McKenzie on "SCTV" and "Strange Brew"
Thank you for uploading this. This was my favorite when I was little and I wish that American Greetings would allow DIC to releasse it on DVD. I guess they were planning to in 2004 but AG won't let them. I still have Portia and the tiny figurines. I had the sheets too. This made my day!
Wow. I don't remember this version of The Get Along Gang. I remember the Saturday morning series. This one looks interesting and the characters are still the same, but voiced by different voice actors.
I think I'm going to like this version as much as I did the Saturday morning one.
I actually had a few audio read-along books of the Get Along Gang when I was little. I never did see the series. But I knew what was the GAG through the books I read. Now that I've seen it, I think I would have enjoyed it as a kid. Still, the cartoons from the 80s are a whole lot better then the cartoons of today
Too bad Nelvana didn't do the TV series, the animation quality in DiC's rendition is pretty awful, as though the episodes were drawn by a bunch of chimpanzees playing around with pencils and paint.
@BobHershey She reminds me of Lily, this character from a kid's show called Timothy Goes to School. Lily isn't as bad as Portia, but very close. I think you can find Timothy Goes to School eppisodes here on You Tube.
Wow. I have only vague memories of this. But then, I would have likely only seen the series, and been a fan. I was such a freakin' furry, even as a kid.
Now, the real question: Is Dotty a Cocker Spaniel, or a Poodle? No puffs, but that kind of body-bi-coloring seems more consistent with clipping/shaving.
@sesamestreetfan2010 The song you are looking for is on YouTube! It won't let me post the link but if you just search it on here you will find it :-)

The only think I dislike about the pilot is the voices. Especially Montgomery's.

It's funny. The Pilot isn't usually better than the series.

Nelvana had such a distinct style of animation, you can see it here and see it in rock and rule.

What the heck is wrong with that porcupine's voice?
KozakuraOfDarnassus 1 year ago
@KozakuraOfDarnassus The person doing Portia Porcupine's voice is inhaling as she talks...instead of breathing out, she's breathing in!
Why this was done for Portia's voice...your guess is as good as mine!
