They also took away the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders - and now we have David Cameron - guess the tradition of the locals should have been left well alone.
What was that thing on top - did they commercialise the tradition of "if you climb dumyat you carry a rock to put on the top" with this - that was a big thing with us as kids - I've climbed dumyat for the sunrise as a child - failed to meet the top once by sheep with lambs but the one thing that always stood true was the - carry a rock/stone to the top - and then I see that thing!!!
@Shesnoin At the top is a memorial to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, a trig point, and a characteristic cairn with a beacon on top that is currently filled with stones. The stones which are placed in the beacon are all wishes that have been made by others. The beacon on the top of Dumyat was commissioned for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. It was carried up and erected by the Menstrie Scout Group and was part of the UK chain of beacons lit as part of the Jubilee celebrations.
@SeeScotland I have all the love, faith and hope in the world for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders the stones on the top however were never for many decades made for the "Queen" but someting more local and was thought a sound tradition of those that lived near Dumyat, climbed Dymyat - and felt it a part of their countryside - their lifes - to now say we do it for the Queen - she's paid well enough for just being another human - sorry but on that fateful day they took the tradition away.

I go up Dumyat regularly as I live very near. Thought this clip was brilliant. I experienced the same when I was up there in the snow the other day.
