As you stated the difference comes from the Saxons (Germans), Normans (French) and Anglos (English). All this took place about.....600 years before the pilgrims even set foot on Plymouth Rock. So as I said, the British language was fucked up. We just fixed it.
@KamekoBruns lol @ "We just fixed it", um there was no "We" in america because half of those pilgrims were english where as the rest where either dutch or portugese. You didnt fix anything at all you just inherited the dialects that came from commoners from various parts of britain. it wasn't until the revolution that american english came about again the americans were pratically "english" themselves at the time to develop it. so no I'm not incorrect at all.
@liverpoolmatt87 Oy vey. Really? When I said "We" I was referring to modern Americans and not people who lives 200+ years ago. Since the first English settlers came over we've had Irish, Asian, African, German, French, Russian, Indonesian, Spanish, Arabic and a few dozen other folks come on over so one would assume that we would speak just a tad differently than you. And, yes, you are wrong. As I stated the or/our difference et all predates American by 600 years.
@KamekoBruns mordern americans wouldn't be so mordern if it were not for the european and the english settlers mate.....again that's another fact you've failed to look at.

@KamekoBruns yeah and those immigrants came out from the uk and europe once again you've proven to make the tampon companies sound rich.... have a nice day ; )
@liverpoolmatt87 Uh, the US has received immigrants from just about every single corner of the globe. Each was of immigrants brings to us their own unique talents and culture allowing us to continually change, improve and adapt.
Please stop trying to pretend like Europe is that cat's meow.

@KamekoBruns but since you're shuving your american pride down my throat just because you believe you speak proper english (ie american english) pretty much is one of the reasons why americans are the most hated people in the world....narrow minded nationalism is what it is.
@xfileskid Exactly! Libya? Not funny.Gaddafi? Fucking hilarious! I'm old enough to still remember his whole "line in the sand" routine. That was a gasser!
@123mazeppa Each character would be 8 digits each if it was so unless his name is 2.5 letters long then.. xD I don't even get how you'd get half of a letter xD
@LiaRazLovelace No a couple are reasonably funny but I cant think of many female comedians who genuinely have people in stitches I quite like sarah Millican though shes not bad. But you have to admit in general women aren't that funny.
Sturgeon's Law. Ninety percent of everything is crap. In general people aren't funny. I can't think of many people, male or female, that have me in stitches.
There are more male stand-up comedians (funny and unfunny) in the industry, so of course men have more time on stage than women. That doesn't mean being a chick means you have an innately humourously handicapped.
The same thing was said about women's acting skills when people started actually casting women in plays.
@LiaRazLovelace Women generally talk about being women, and women react better to male comedians. The former alienates the male half the audience, the latter makes it difficult to win the other half over.
lets get some things straight. When English comedy was ruled by the likes of Bernard Manning, who was a disgusting bigoted racist who stood for everything that really is wrong in the world, the US had George Carlin who was challenging his audiences to think. It was without a doubt This breed of American stand up who inspired the breakthrough that was alternative comedy. Revolutions in English language comedy have been criss-crossing the Atlantic for many years, each improving on the last.
As if the funniest people in other nations are waiting for the rest of their country to be funny as well before it counts...ludicrous. Saying a country has an authority on some trait or another is as ludicrous as someone saying all Africans are really good runners. I know some who are, but I'm African and I can't run for shit, as I'm short, grumpy, and favor yoga lol
@gyped Generally speaking US comedians are not funny. The only funny ones I can think of off the top of my head are Gabriel Iglesias, Robin Williams, Bill Hicks and Chris Rock.
The rest are pretty much "meh" in my opinion. On the other side of the pond we have Jack Dee, Frankie Boyle... Dara... Lee Evans, Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr... Milton whathisname.
There are more but naming ALL the comedians off the top of the head is difficult. Al Murray, how dare I forget him .... almost
@Joppsta360 USA comedians you forgot, Rich Hall, Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Pryor, Woody Allen, Steven Wright, George Burns, Dave Chapelle, Ellen Degeneres, Larry David, Denis Leary & Mitch Hedberg to name a few. you're just focusing on the nation more than the individually brilliance these geniuses contribute to the history of comedy. if you don't understand their humour, then google them and watch videos.
@gyped It's funny because I know Dave Chapelle and his humour isn't funny. He's the American version of Ali G pretty much from what I saw.. Ali G isn't even funny either really. Sorry but low brow stupid humour doesn't really cut it.. this is why I despise Family Guy. Simpsons has slightly more class.
American comedy is in your face... and Dennis Leary? You mean the guy that stole from Bill Hicks? ^^
@Joppsta360 i'm intelligent enough to have an open mind with all kinds of humour. Just how i like my food and music, a plethora in arrays. i see good in all things. nice work onloy naming 3 of the many comedians i mentioned. got dirt on all of them?.... didn't think so.
@mgblue i suppose you go to china looking for them too huh? i suppose you watch chinese T.V. wait.... you must speak chinese as well huh?..... no? oh right.
@mgblue nice google search. look, you probably have to look for it for in some countries compared to others ie; china, because it's not as popular through their media sources, but without a doubt there is a scene there (& everywhere else). The reason America & the UK are compared so much is because they are both media driven countries which expose their viewers to it. Hence us being so familiar to UK & USA. Other countries you'll have to litterally go to a live show in a small bar.
@gyped i see what your saying, im not saying the whole of china are humourless drones, but you used a very specific word...nation...
Nation: A large aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.
usa and uk are famous for certain types of humour, which the people who live in those countries use every day, you can go in any pub in uk and meet funny people because its a part of our culture, china ? i dont think so
@mgblue exactly my point, because everyone is saying "british humour is better than american" and vice versa. i'm saying it's dependant on the individual not the country they live in. thanks for proving my point.
@gyped dont thank me because your just arguing for arguments sake you havent understood my point if your thanking me for proving yours you imbocile, your making a mute point, you talk about individuals, individuals make up nations, and since your watching mocktheweek im guessing you understand british humour...comedians are comedians because of the environments they grew up in, thats why the most successful ones are british and american, and not just in their respective countries, worldwide
@mgblue There's a clear language barrier. Of course you won't find a nation's comedians funny if you can't understand a word they're saying. If you went to a pub in China, you wouldn't be able to even order a drink, much less understand jokes.
Humour is extremely subjective, and everyone finds certain types of humour funny. It differs from nation to nation, but also individual to individual.
@smexijebus yep i agree but as i said certain types of humour are universal...its been proven, usa and uk excel at universal humour, slapstick physical humour doesn't need language, do you those types of humour are seen in peoples lives in china, no because clearly their culture doesn't allow it for whatever reason
@mgblue I disagree; I've seen plenty of both physical and verbal humour in China, Japan, and other oriental countries. You simply have to look for it, because the 'universal' language is English. You'll be pretty hard-pressed to find any non-English videos on YouTube to even come close to breaking the top thousand viewed or favourited unless it's got coverage from outside sources. It's not that there's a lack of humour in those areas, it's just that we live in separate cultural circles.
@mgblue North America and the United Kingdom are more well known (to us, I might add) because, while they both have their own distinct cultures, and sub-cultures, they are all part of a bigger, Western culture. As many differences as there are, there are far more similarities. Both are exposed to one another far more than any other culture, and thus the types of humour grow on us.
I have to conclude that what one finds funny depends on where they live, not the other way around.
@smexijebus yeah i agree but to deny difference in culture is just ignorant my whole point is that gyped comment is just silly 'individuals are funny!, NOT nations!' individuals make up nations so to deny the fact comedy is more important to more individuals in certain nations is just ignorance personified.
The female comedians on MTW aren't usually as funny as the men but there are good female comedians, like Joan Collins. And female comedic actors who are funny in real life like Dawn French.
@jawbone83 Example? A majority of American sitcoms are the same old shit. Just a bunch of pretty people who "date" each other, and its all about "relationships" and having sex with the "hot chick" and all that crap. There are no real storylines, unless you think "I wonder if i can date two girls at the same time without getting caught" is a storyline. American sitcoms are terrible. With the exception of the Office and Curb your Enthusiasm.
@noveltybobel Bad argument. I think British people are funny, but I think most americans are idiots (actually I think most people are idiots, american or not). You pre-suppose they did a good thing ripping off British stuff.
@HZD09 in you're opinion! Women are funny many times without actually realising it: case in point the woman in England that had her meerkats stolen and politely said to her daughter, "Blow me!" Not meaning to be funny...made me cry with laughter!
That has to be the funniest a woman has been on Mock the Week and all because of the genius of Frankie......that fluff-up was hilarious especuially Frankie's reacions at being blamed for the fluff-up. LOL
she's shit...

@LiaRazLovelace Women generally talk about being women, and women react better to male comedians. The former alienates the male half the audience, the latter makes it difficult to win the other half over.

I wanna know why people are arguing.
Both AMerica and UK have thier share of idiots, un-funny pricks and comic Geniuses.
Cant we all just get along and talk about the funny people without all the bullshit?
GunshyPigeon 2 months ago 4
lets get some things straight.

@gyped preach!
marxandengles 2 months ago 3
@gyped YES! Full stop.
As if the funniest people in other nations are waiting for the rest of their country to be funny as well before it counts...ludicrous. Saying a country has an authority on some trait or another is as ludicrous as someone saying all Africans are really good runners. I know some who are, but I'm African and I can't run for shit, as I'm short, grumpy, and favor yoga lol
vidaliadear 2 months ago
@gyped Generally speaking US comedians are not funny. The only funny ones I can think of off the top of my head are Gabriel Iglesias, Robin Williams, Bill Hicks and Chris Rock.
The rest are pretty much "meh" in my opinion. On the other side of the pond we have Jack Dee, Frankie Boyle... Dara... Lee Evans, Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr... Milton whathisname.
There are more but naming ALL the comedians off the top of the head is difficult. Al Murray, how dare I forget him .... almost

DCfilms1001 2 months ago
@Joppsta360 USA comedians you forgot, Rich Hall, Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Pryor, Woody Allen, Steven Wright, George Burns, Dave Chapelle, Ellen Degeneres, Larry David, Denis Leary & Mitch Hedberg to name a few. you're just focusing on the nation more than the individually brilliance these geniuses contribute to the history of comedy. if you don't understand their humour, then google them and watch videos.
gyped 3 weeks ago
@gyped It's funny because I know Dave Chapelle and his humour isn't funny. He's the American version of Ali G pretty much from what I saw.. Ali G isn't even funny either really. Sorry but low brow stupid humour doesn't really cut it.. this is why I despise Family Guy. Simpsons has slightly more class.
American comedy is in your face... and Dennis Leary? You mean the guy that stole from Bill Hicks? ^^
Great choice of comedian there... a thief.

@Joppsta360 i'm intelligent enough to have an open mind with all kinds of humour. Just how i like my food and music, a plethora in arrays. i see good in all things. nice work onloy naming 3 of the many comedians i mentioned. got dirt on all of them?.... didn't think so.

mgblue 3 weeks ago
@mgblue nice google search. look, you probably have to look for it for in some countries compared to others ie; china, because it's not as popular through their media sources, but without a doubt there is a scene there (& everywhere else). The reason America & the UK are compared so much is because they are both media driven countries which expose their viewers to it. Hence us being so familiar to UK & USA. Other countries you'll have to litterally go to a live show in a small bar.
gyped 3 weeks ago
@gyped i see what your saying, im not saying the whole of china are humourless drones, but you used a very specific word...nation...
Nation: A large aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.
usa and uk are famous for certain types of humour, which the people who live in those countries use every day, you can go in any pub in uk and meet funny people because its a part of our culture, china ? i dont think so
mgblue 3 weeks ago
@mgblue exactly my point, because everyone is saying "british humour is better than american" and vice versa. i'm saying it's dependant on the individual not the country they live in. thanks for proving my point.
gyped 3 weeks ago
@gyped dont thank me because your just arguing for arguments sake you havent understood my point if your thanking me for proving yours you imbocile, your making a mute point, you talk about individuals, individuals make up nations, and since your watching mocktheweek im guessing you understand british humour...comedians are comedians because of the environments they grew up in, thats why the most successful ones are british and american, and not just in their respective countries, worldwide
mgblue 3 weeks ago
@mgblue There's a clear language barrier. Of course you won't find a nation's comedians funny if you can't understand a word they're saying. If you went to a pub in China, you wouldn't be able to even order a drink, much less understand jokes.
Humour is extremely subjective, and everyone finds certain types of humour funny. It differs from nation to nation, but also individual to individual.
smexijebus 3 weeks ago
@smexijebus yep i agree but as i said certain types of humour are universal...its been proven, usa and uk excel at universal humour, slapstick physical humour doesn't need language, do you those types of humour are seen in peoples lives in china, no because clearly their culture doesn't allow it for whatever reason
mgblue 3 weeks ago
@mgblue I disagree; I've seen plenty of both physical and verbal humour in China, Japan, and other oriental countries. You simply have to look for it, because the 'universal' language is English. You'll be pretty hard-pressed to find any non-English videos on YouTube to even come close to breaking the top thousand viewed or favourited unless it's got coverage from outside sources. It's not that there's a lack of humour in those areas, it's just that we live in separate cultural circles.
smexijebus 3 weeks ago

With the exception of the Office and Curb your Enthusiasm.
noveltybobel 2 months ago 2
@jawbone83 Seeing how not one of your shitmedians, could even get a chuckle from a British audience. With the exception of Richard Hall.

@HZD09 in you're opinion! Women are funny many times without actually realising it: case in point the woman in England that had her meerkats stolen and politely said to her daughter, "Blow me!" Not meaning to be funny...made me cry with laughter!
