  • I had this done Tuesday May 11th 2010. Woke up with the worst cramps of my life. Finally after so many meds I was givin Dilauded which finally made them bearable. Really no cramps since 10 p.m that night. Bled horribly in the hospital but now barely anything. Prior to the procedure I bled for about 50 days straight after being put on birth control. I had a hysteroscopy with a d&c and thermal endometrial ablation. My doctor and I hope it takes. Only time will tell.

  • The title is Endometrial Ablation.

Ablation means removal of material from the surface of an object by vaporization, chipping, or other erosive processes.

Cauterization is a medical term describing the burning of part of a body to remove or close off a part of it, which destroys some tissue, in an attempt to mitigate damage, remove an undesired growth, or minimize other potential problems Endometrium is required for eggs to attach during pregnancy. This patient was 55yrs old.

  • they are not burning off your endometrium.. its called cauterization.. it just burns the 1st layer to prevent too much bleeding. After a while, it will heal... and your ready to get pregnant. It doesnt stays burned you know.

  • thank you for that view doc and also for everyone that wrote in telling about their experiences!! I will be having the procedure done next month!! Needed the reassurance. thanks!!

  • I just had mine done on 11/24/09 at 12:30 p. m. Before I went in, I was a bit nervous since this was my very first operation. I got to the hospital at 10:30, put on my gown, had an IV started on me and watched TV while I waited. As it came time for my surgery, they wheeled my into the operating room, had general anesthesia put on me and next thing, I woke up in the recovery area. It was just like a breeze. No pain afterwards. It was like I didn't have it. I went home that day.

  • I had this done - no, it was not painful - it was a cinch. They put you out. I think I have to go back though.. same symptoms a year and half later.. UGH!!!!!!!!!

  • I had it done three days ago - I was able to walk with no problem the same night but now I have a urinary tract infection which is being treated with antibiotics. It was not painful at all and I would recommend to anyone - just not sure if it will help with my anemia - as long as my period stops completely it will though!!!

  • I have a polyp no bleeding or anything. Is this dangerous to keep inside you?

  • thank you for the talk through :) the only words my gynecloist said were 'get on the examination table' nothing mentioned during the proceedure.. a least now i know what is going to be done to me. :(..

  • OUCH!!!

  • my goodness,is ti painful later.i was told by a doctor the same has to be done to me and i just cat satnd the thought of it.now that iam looking iam even afarid to make appointment with that doctor....can someone later have kids or its finished.....? thanks for posting

  • you can have children, its advised not to use tampons for a month after proceedure, you might have some pain in the tip of your shoulders known as 'defered pain' du to the gas inflated inside. talk to your doctor or nurse about it :) (nurses are great for conversing ;))

  • What are the preoperative procedures(cervical dilation)?Anesthesia?

  • This procedure is done under light general anesthesia. It does require cervical dilation. Usually in a surgical center.

  • If I am having this done as a same day surgery along with the edometrial ablamation (however you spell it) will I be asleep or just numb down there? And so this means there are no incisions everything is done through the cervix? Thanks just worried...it's already scheduled

  • Had it done June 24th. Still waiting for the big pay off. Recovery was quick, back to work in 2 days.

  • I had to have a hysteroscopy a few months ago but this view sure is different. lol

  • awesome, i needed to see that for my exams! thanks

  • nice scrap off, Doc!
