  • Please stop overusing the loop-function.. thanks^^

  • marley carrol, you look like a nerd but cut like a pro

  • fuck this is dope. as turntablist who also uses a DVS program this is nuts

  • More from Marley Carroll (new video) /watch?v=_hgAOt0yNVM

  • get the novation dicer

  • thats hot beatgrid or something?

  • MADDD!!!

  • mint as

  • 25K! Thanks!

  • mad skills bro

  • sick tune and a sick serato cut-up!!!

  • At first I thought this was just some guy who didn't really know what he was doing. But then once the song started playing I was really impressed.

I been using Serato since 2005. I love it, I done some ish kinda like that, but with just more scratching and juggling. Got some questions for ya,..

How did you keep the track to snapping back to match the same position matching the other track? In your video it shows it around 1:09-1:15. How do you have that set up?

And do you ever use controllers?

  • @TheFlicDOTinfo if you use cmd+shift+right (or cmd+shift+left) it will copy the currently playing track to the other deck. Make sure "instant doubles" is turned on in preferences, and it will automatically match the position of the track. You'll have to be in relative or internal mode.

WRT controllers : yes, currently using a Korg NanoPad and Traktor Kontrol X1. I've developed this mixing style way beyond this video... planning on making a new one soon. Thanks for the comment.

  • Killer!!

  • he's just firing off loops at various lengths very simple, easy shit.. manipulate the vinyl, yo, not the fucken buttons.

  • @PaulyTheGimp it's not quite as simple as that he is whacking them out of sync whilst maintaining the bars of the original song, that is pretty difficult to do even if Serato does help you a little. You upload then we'll judge.

  • @curzmg It's obvious you must be new to dj'ing and serato to make a comment like that. all you have going on here are multiple loops varied in length/time being triggered with minimal fading back and forth and even less turntable interaction. Turntable manipulation, ie. scratching, juggling, etc. is the quintessential skill you must have to be a "real" dj. This guy has some skill, but he is not a "dj". He is more of a producer if you will, like the people who "play" Ableton live.

  • @PaulyTheGimp I didn't say it's the most difficult thing in the world but it is difficult to do at this level. He takes what is a simple concept and develops it into something complex and interesting. I really don't want to be a complete dick but you should honestly demonstrate your ability or your understanding before criticising so heavily. You are intentionally belittling what he is doing, you could describe DJing as multiple loops varied in length/time being triggered.

  • @curzmg

Where is the complexity? At what "level" are you talking about? My skill level is irrelevant in regards to this technical fact of what he is doing. I am not belittling anyone, It's the truth. You sound like one of those pc soccer mom types who thinks everyone wins. Everything their little johnny does is great. There is not much going on here, sorry if this ruffles your feathers but it's the truth. Yes, dj'n/turntablism could be described as cutting and pasting, but not with software.

  • @PaulyTheGimp You sound like someone obsessed with seeming like you know something about DJing, someone obsessed with sticking to old techniques in order to 'prove' how great they are. Turntable manipulation is undoubtably the quintessential skill but in modern times what exactly that means in a world without turntables is becoming slightly clouded. Software and these kind of techniques are the modern revolution, most DJs are overjoyed to see them, I suggest you stop obsessing over the past.

  • @curzmg

For the uninitiated, turntable manipulation is the quintessential skill, don't get it twisted my uneducated brother.

  • @PaulyTheGimp If you think Marley Carroll is not a DJ... you're out of youre fucking mind

  • SICK!!!

  • fuckin great!

  • That was pretty impressive! Y dont u upload some more of your skills?!

  • Damn, that was dope. I haven't really been feeling Serato until now. Now I'm really seeing the power.

  • smasheeedd it

  • What Interface did you use?

  • hes like ean golden with serato

  • Did you have the TTm57SL? If not what interface did you use? Just wondering.

  • @cdmays03 - it's in the description. TTM56, Serato 1.8.2.

New video in the works right now. This is my first comment. Thanks to the appreciators and the haters!

  • @marleycarroll that is the version of serato not the actual interface just like seratco scratch live 1.9.2. Exact same thing. I wanted to know the interface like First Scratch Live Box, SL1, or SL3.

  • Comment removed

  • @cdmays03 It's the SL1, the first Serato box. I'll get the new stuff eventually, haha.

  • Just bought Serato, DAMN!! WICKED

  • This sounds kinda like dubstep effects, not the beat but the way he loops it and shit, very creative...sick mix

  • Real creative and simple stuff he did, sound complex. If DJ's actually learned all their Serato shortcuts and modes, This wouldnt be as complex as it appears. Big ups Marley!

  • hottt!

  • great for radio. Will catch you a beat down in a club but otherwise very creative.

  • cant wrap my head around 2:06

    insane

  • Just offset one record by 1 bar and flip the fader back and forth... gives it a chasing type sound.

  • yah...yah...yah...yah...yah...yah

  • woow great job dude!

  • haha! That's what I'm talking about. Keep putting you influence all over it. I absolutely love it!!

  • Hell Yeah!!!!!

A very nice set to show off some of the potential that this new digital mixing has to offer to this art form

  • I hope to one day have the skills you posess, simply awesome to the ears

  • master ful damn.. i got a lot of catching up to do.

  • That was tooo loopy and efffecty, and stuff. You gotta get back to the basics i was waiting for you to do a lil scratch or beat juggle.. or something!

I guess it was nice because of all the effects your threw on the track.

In the name of fairness, I can't do that but I can still give advice.

  • that was awesome! like it good job!

  • called beat juggling for ppl out there, ppl do this without computers,(use 2 of the same vinyl and time it use the crossfader with backspinning to the proper cue points)

  • your back is sick man i liked stuff

    keep it up

  • sickkk wit itt.....keep it up

  • 5 stars my man!

  • what a cheater on skratching. LOL

  • lmao..."cheater on scratching" first off its spelled "scratching" not "skratching" second of all its the stutter effect that hes doing i didnt see any scratching at all...

  • LOL! first of all, there's a reason why i put skratching and not scratching. in hip hop terms, it's skratching. i'm not that stupid. second of all, i was just joking around and didn't mean to take it offensively but that's fine. that's him, not you. have a nice day. enjoy yourself. =]

  • LMAO...still dont get why you would say "cheater on scratching" when it clearly says its an exhibition of some new live glitching and looping styles using Serato Scratch Live, but hey thanks ill enjoy myself you do the same=]

  • Whats the short cut key for the stutter mode? I can't find it.

  • Wow this is amazing

  • Holy crap! Sickness man...

  • Dude..... sick.

  • clutch

  • the loops were cool .. the doubles were inverted (i like chasing the other way personally) .. the faded loops (simulating echos) were nice... and the audio drops were cool ...

i'd love to see this one done with cue points and just button mashing on the ttm lol .. that'd be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet
