@Ian25tech AHAHAAHAHAH.. go rail some more meth, u bonehead....Moz couldnt touch the #'s Elvis commanded... he's long been forgotten in the USA and for good reason, he pisses on America at every opportunity in an interview...good riddance to the bloated, fat, teeth decaying gigantor!
I think that the reason Moz doesn't use the intro to "This Charming Man" is actually out of respect towards Marr. It isn't that he doesn't care about the intro, or the proper way to play the song's rhythm, it's that he knows it is so beautiful and unique that he doesn't WANT to play it in the perfected form without Marr. The lyrics are his alone, he should be able to perform it without having to worry about what you think. Long live Moz!
This Charming man without marr sounds LIKE SHIT !!! Unbelievable , that they dont care about the fantastic MARR introduction-SOLO ...This is blasphemie
quite enjoyed this charming man. sounds like a modern day version. not bad. but like MagicFreddie said, I'm glad that no one tried to sound or play the riff like marr because it just wouldnt work.
As for Morrisey, he's great. And I love his early solo stuff but I think he's a little past it now. dont hate me cos i love him as much as you but his singing is getting slightly less powerful and his songwriting isn't as good. Such a shame.. <3
I think This Charming Man will always remain a classic for a number of reasons. Not only was it catchy but it conveyed a completely human message, unlike a lot of popular music at the time. It will always be a classic because it was written at a time of barren, souless pop music, and The Smiths changed all that.
@rodhoces2 , I have to disagree, I think the song's amazing. Yes, Marr added the 'jangle-pop' feel, but I like this version as much as the old. Making a statement like "It's a Fact. Mozz without Marr, is not a Smith" is like comparing Moz to Billy Corgan, who just keeps changing the line up and calling it The Smashing Pumpkins. Morrissey is amazing, any way you put it.
this charming man hit a chord with people that catapulted it to the status of classic- throwing my arms around paris hasn't but popularity isn't the mark of a good song. they both are good songs in different ways
@JODQ11 I like your minimalist approach. However, that is too easy, and seen as I'm playing Leedsfest in a short time, I need something a bit... denser, to get the crowd going you see.
I agree. But what do you expect. Marrs genius on the guitar is so obvious, when you compare the two versions... This Charming man without Marr sounds just like any other rock piece !!!
Present was a signed album by an actor called Richard Wyngarde who Ross loves. He played a character called Jason King in a very popular series in the 60's or 70's. Somebody older than me help me out!
If I had never heard the original, I'd think this song was the best thing since sliced bread, but let's be honest... nobody can touch Marr's composition/tone/playing technique.
Haha, I just watched the 2004 interview when he said he wasn't going to be friends with him. Now he's giving presents and giving hugs, haha =] Love him.
Being 48 and from Preston Lancs does not make me a "newbie smiths fan".... 'ave you got some problem or summat mate? Mozza is ace and that's that ! I just didn't like the way the band played on T.C.M. Anyhow, "pussy posers" r u from the US or wot?

@MagicFreddie some of my mates and i were dinking around on guitars the other day and we realized that we all knew the first 8 or 9 seconds of "this charming man" and had all on our own given up on figuring out the rest.
@MagicFreddie spot on !!! The Smiths will never die ... Morrisseys contemporary songs are just some substitutional medicine for people who loved the Smiths and wish that one day Marr and Morrissey will unite and make timeless songs again!!!
