  • Hi Dave Kev here, sounds good man peace.

  • Why on earth did you have to play the Top Gun song?!? Don't you realize that one night I was bored and looked up a tab for it SEVEN YEARS ago and it STILL pops into my head every now and then and takes months to get rid of?!?!?!?

You are right, though, association helps. That NBC thing is one of the first things I figured out, after Mary Had a Little Lamb... I was very excited about both.

  • Wow, this really helps! I looked up an ear-training program on the net right after seeing this vid and relating intervals to examples really works for me! Thanks!

  • OO ive been looking for lesson like this a bunch of time! THANK YOU VERY MUCH :-)

  • the top gun example is the best if not the most amazing part of this video, top gun is my favorite movie out of any other!!! you rock!!!

  • This is awesome!!! Thanks for handing down the craft!

    -Lewis Robertson (Guitarist for Budapeg)

  • Best lesson ever

    "and blah blah blah" lol

  • Awesome as usual Dave. Just bought your CD. I'm excited for the new album. Cheers.

  • where do you buy the cd at?!

  • daveweiner . com / store (no spaces) or itunes or any other online retailer. But from my online store, you get it signed and with a guitar pick.

  • I didn't know Dace checked these. Man, your good to your fans.

Just wondering, has anyone been watching the olympics. They need something like that for guitar...

  • If I can play half as good as you by the time I'm your age, I will consider myself a VERY accomplished guitarist.

  • i dont know about anyone else, but as a learnt guitar my ear natualy developed the skill to pick out things from songs, i never really practiced it and can pick out most things pretty easy

  • Just out of curiosity Dave, does Steve have perfect pitch?

  • I think he has very good relative pitch but not perfect.

  • I love yr lessons.I find that singing my favourite songs especially The Beatles really helps. They really had melodies sussed.

  • I'm pumped for your album!!!

    How's the whole album going?

  • The new record is coming along nicely. Still shooting for a late 08 release... hopefully.

  • what was that ipod toouch web app thing?

btw i just bought your new cd on itunes

    great rotw dave

  • Karajan - in the itunes app store.

Thx for picking up the disc. I appreciate it!

  • Nice Lesson Dave! Have you Heard "Harrison's Movable C"? or Zoltan's Kodaly Ear Training Method? Are they good?

  • No I haven't.

  • Thanks for this Dave, im bout to start school and I need to get my ear warmed up for ear training in theory. You the man. Hope the album is coming along well.

  • Would trying to practise ear while practising guitar help? Or should it be the main focus if you want to work on ear at all?

  • I'd separate the two.

  • Really helpful lesson. Thanks very much :)

    5/5

    really glad i suscribed

  • Great Advice Dave!

I think getting an ear training program and relating intervals to familiar tunes is helpful.

    thanks.

  • Like Dave said, intervals related to songs are the best way to learn them. That was first thing my teaher taught me 20 years ago. Also it's good to try to learn the A (440hrz) then you can relate to that, to find other notes.

  • Thanks Dave, very useful :)

  • Finally! Thanks Dave. This was very good.

  • Great Rotw (like always). This sorta stuff is really gonna help with my music A level listening tests.

  • Dave... pimping the "iProducts"... tisk tisk.

That aside, great ROTW. I can say I've got relative pitch, and this is pretty much how I got there. It takes a while, but I know it helped me over the years. Plus, I used to sing and play guitar in my old band, and that really helps too.

  • thanks dave again this really helped me with my ear training

  • Great ROTW this week Dave :)

This is exactly what I've been working on really hard this summer, trying to learn what each interval sounds like. I like to give each one a feeling or emotion, similar to what I do with modes. I find that really helps with recognising them.

But I'm going to try out your technique too, think it'll help a lot.

Ear training is a really important thing, its good to see something about it on YouTube instead of another sweep picking lesson or whatever.

    Thanks a lot!

  • transcription is great too.
