Dont believe that eating salads makes u lose weight. have u ever checked, how much fat is in the salad sauce, how many calories? you would have to eat the salad without any sauce.
wanna lose weight? eat half of the calories, your body wants to burn each day! your body will start burning the fat. one gram of fat equals 9 calories. so you would have to save 9000 calories to lose 1 kilogram.
you wanna lose weigth? you will feel the pain of hunger, every day, for weeks. no other way.
yes its crazy how unhealthy most packaged food, especially sold in n.america is. you almost have to throw it out of your diet entirely and just start to cook for yourself when you're tired of fruits & vegetables (everyone says Mediterranean diet but anything whole & warm is better than salty junk)
stay away from sugar, sodium (and other preservatives), anything with high glycemic count, and drink warm, not chilled drinks with meals
sleep & ridding of chronic stress is important too
Changing habits is difficult and takes time. Rather than being on a diet think of changing lifestyles. That is more positive than being costantly reminded of having to count calories.
Also, cheat days are not a problem as long as it doesn't happen all the time.

Cooking is a lot of fun! Try to stay away from fast food if you can. There are a lot of things that you can make that don't take a whole lot of prep. One of my favorites is to chop 3 strips of bacon, fry them up, then add halved Brussel Sprouts, perhaps a clove of garlic, chopped, and saute them until there's some color on them. Then add a quarter cup of white wine, and cover the pan for about 5 minutes. Give the pan a stir, and then add another slug of wine, let the pan dry, et voila!
Owen, learn a little about food stretching. You can still do the boxed food stuff IF you add celery, carrots, onions, potatoes and other things that stretch the high-calorie, high-sodium stuff over more food. Then, a person's portion isn't gonna kill them. Anyway, keep up your great work, and come to Utah this winter. We'll have all the snow you can eat here. Zero-calories, I promise. JK, love ya!

Tips you didnt request (but Im going to give them to you anyway):
1.Take is easy on yourself (lifelong changes dont happen overnight).
2.Try not to say good and bad food (but if you must fruit is a
good food).
3.Try not to designate your friends as the eating police (if you want them to remain your friends).
4.Manually measure out the sugar content of something that you use to eat (it will shock you).
