  • From my early youth I was fond of fun And the company of my darling girl In every port that I did dwell

I received a sweet kiss from my love I called to her door

more to see my love Her father told me she wasn't there That she had eloped with the fair-haired boy

The summer will come and grass will grow

And leaves will come on the trees My love will return with the break of day With a song of love for me

  • That's great. Go raibh mile mhaith agat. Can ya figure out the third verse too?

  • The summer will come and grass will grow

And leaves will come on the trees My love will return with the break of day With a song of love for me

  • This is the first and second stanza (the first is also the last):

Tiocfaidh an samhraidh agus fásfaidh an féar

Tiocfaidh an duilliúr glas ar bharr na gcraobh.

Tiocfaidh mo rún searc le banú an lae,

Agus buailfidh sí tiúin suas le cumhaí im' dhiadh.

Scairt mé aréir ag an doras thall,

Scairt mé arís ar mo ghrá mo rún go teann,

'Sé dúirt a daidí liom nach raibh sí ann,

Ná gur éalaigh sí aréir leis an bhuachaill donn

  • That's great. Go raibh mile mhaith agat. Can ya figure out the third verse too?

  • Does anyone have the lyrics to this version he is singing? I does understand the northern irish too well and can't make it out.

  • Ive posted you the english translation for summer will come Tiocfaidh an Samhradh :) enjoy

  • This is such a lovely song. I love his voice. Does anyone know if this song can be

    downloaded anywhere?

  • I think I actually prefer this version to the album version! Even though the sound quality is not so good, his voice seems to come through far stronger in the mix which is great because it's such a beautiful melody. I would love to see the full quality version of this performance released on record!

  • Thanks for this!

I once taped this program (sessions from the 70's) It was on BBC a few years ago but i lent it out and that was the end of it.

It's Fantastic to see it again.

Do you happen to have David McWilliam's singing Lay it on the Line with Andy Irvine or David McWilliams singing Twenty Golden years ago from the same program?

If so i'd really appreciate it if you could Post

    Thanks for sharing your clips
