so...whats the point in comparing lap times between f1 and champ car (R.I.P.)? they're (were) completely different series with completely different philosophies. champ cars weighed on average about 500lbs more than f1 cars did with roughly the same amount of horsepower. f1 also had ridiculous downforce because they had ridiculous budgets. ($400 million + for ferrari in 2004) so who the hell cares which series was faster at a particular track? they're both fun to watch.

But Formula 1 is more boring than the late ChampCar ! I'm a motorsports frencg fan and i can say that Formula 1 , actually , is not the summum of motorsports today ! I prefer American Le Man Series . For me the ALMS is the best racing cars series I've ever seen with the 70's/80's/90's formula 1's eras and of course , the late ChampCar
6 seconds is pretty substantial espiecially on a power circuit like montreal where the f1 car wont show its true superiority because there arent as many slow-medium speed corners.
Even GP2, A1 GP are faster than champ car, and champ cars are so ugly , impossible to compare, Aero doesn't exist in champ car in F1 the cars are made like aircraft and ths a huge difference, its is not even a question of power cause rules don't want f1 cars to go faster fo security reasons, champ car what a joke, Nascar what a joke, even karting is more entertaining lol
If you've never raced anything before, I would suggest the first place to start is look up a local SCCA group and do some Solo2. It's a good way to get introduced into actually racing. You can use your own car no matter what it is. There is a catagory for it. Then I would go to the tracks and follow the sport, try to do some carting. Anything to get experiance.
im just talking crap. i dont mean i actually want to get into champ car racing....i meant, i would just really like to drive one on a track for a day or something.
I totally agree with you. He can race anything, from the Champ Car World Series to the American Le Mans Series in both the GT2 and LMP1 cars. I had the opportunity to meet him at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve during the 2006 Champ Car World Series Grand Prix of Montreal, nice guy.

isn't it funny how the same thing that makes f1 so great (speed, handling, aero), makes it so dull sometimes.

F1 was only 6 seconds on Montreal 2006. With a much lighter and newer car.
Fernando Alonso: 1:14.942 (2006 car)
Sébastien Bourdais: 1:20.005 (2002 car)

Keep making those Hyundai's, mate!!

Tracks like Fontana have schools where you can race in a two seater for a day or some arrangement. It's good for a thrill.

I wish him the best.
