  • This song is as hard as fuck too decipher. All I've made out is how life can be like a parabola . It can arc into the sky's then come down like a burning heap of screeching metal.

  • You left out the beginning oO..

  • FUCKEN SICK!!! I FUCKING LOVE THEM <3

  • Can't wait to see these guys live for the first time in a couple weeks. So stoked! Got some special chocolates to help enjoy the experience too....haha

  • i never ever thought i would want to see the word parabola after today's math exam... but how can you pass up tool <3

  • Excellent song, great video. One correction just FYI. He says, "Twirling 'round with this familiar PARABLE" , meaning "a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson." Again , great job but I'm sure you now notice the pertinence. Thanks Bud

  • This band is one of the few that brings me up no matter how far my depression brings me down....maynard is my fucking hero...Tool ftw

  • wow...how amazing a song can make u feel!!!

  • My pinkie, i've never been more grateful for it now because playing that end on guitar, it needs it.

  • 40 people are hookers with penis'

  • Okay.., so tool is considered metal. Now I know that I am in the metal family. Now, big question... WHY ISN'T TOOL'S ORIGINAL STUFF ON iTUNES?!?!?!

  • @poohcanplay123 I KNOW RIGHT?!

  • @poohcanplay123 Tool feels strongly that buying physical copies of their albums plays an important part in the experience they want to give to you.

  • Love what Tool does to me...

  • real shit. signed, an open-minded blk chick.

  • Good shit!!!

  • they sound so good

  • u foooooools.......... just listen

  • love me some toolz

  • all this pain is an illusion.

  • Tool is not something you like or listen to, it is an art that you must discover. When I first heard them (under influence of my peers) I hated Tool, I said "their songs are too long. The lyrics don't make sense. It's just stupid" but then I decided to sit down on my own accord and give them a second chance (if I recall, I listened to 'Pushit' from 'Salival') and now they are probably my favourite band, or at least close second with System of a Down

  • @wedrinkfromtheriver Nice musical tastes. I have to agree with you 100%.

  • I hate how people watched the captain america trailer and heard 46 & 2 and then they think that there real tool fans

  • @TNTcOOl78

I hate it when people scrutinize other people and then spell "they are" (contraction They're) as there. Fail

  • @icebergbart216 really are you gonna argue with me on the internet wow just pathetic

  • Comment removed

  • lol maybe they are intellegent. do you know them?

  • hey guys check this band ...is pretty good /watch?v=KtTHN0xD_Ic and by the way TOOL fucking ROCKS!!

  • Pop music?

  • @TheBillynasty Lawls.

  • POWERFUL...

  • In my darkest hours when contemplating ending it all, and at the highest of highs when life could not be more beautiful... This song has elevated me. Images are no where near as powerful as the words. Possibly the greatest tool song ever...

  • You are all sheep! Tool is pop music for the masses!!!!!!!!

  • @SuttonSantiniPaulo pop? ha! as if. Even if it was, it's still good pop. Oxymoron, i know.

  • Ahaaaa Tool of the few bands that understand the dimensions that surround us the darkness and light that we control, the human ability to exsist and all its complexity .... Beautiful

  • Respect from Bosnia :)))

  • I think Tool has a very intelligent fan base, intellectually shallow lyrics are the ones that attract intellectually shallow individuals and I seriously doubt that anyone can say in all seriousness that anything about Tool and their music is shallow. That being said, there are always posers but hey, at least they like and support some damn good music, yeah?

  • There's a distinct amount of pain in the way Maynard says "illusion" at the end of the song. It's like he's got a message that needs to be told, but nobody is listening.

  • It's funny how a such great band with a intelligent meanings in their songs can attract so many ignorant dumbshits, Including myself. Nobody's perfect.

  • @TheKovajatka cause after all...you are a complete tool! (hey better being a tool fan then a belieber lo)

  • @jamesthq Im not a tool even though i like TOOL.

  • I was going to post an intelligent comment about how I liked Tool for the amazing sound, amazing guitar and especially amazing bass work that all fits perfectly with the exceptional vocals that create dark, brooding, and almost out of body emotion all the way around, but apparently I'm not aloud to sound intellectual on Tool videos when I'm commenting because hipsters will think I'm stupid for making a well thought out comment or some shit. Oh well.

  • @SamusCeltyHawkeye88 Alas. And intellecjuels [sic] might call you down for your spelling of "allowed."

  • @CNETZebur you mean "intellectuals", right?

  • @CNETZebur intellectuals might call you down for your spelling of "intellectuals"

  • @CNETZebur Hm...entire argument is invalid. Oh well. Anyone else will realize my point.

  • Tool is the Bomb!!!......Jesus Christ...

  • @czargs I pity you.

  • you people are on crack

  • love the end

  • Dude...I'm with MisterNatMan...

  • ALIVE......I

  • i always picture like a chopper air raid rack

  • I wanna see tool live so bad!! But they're already sold out!!!!

  • great song???? I think it''s an AMAZING song haha

  • ']['{[]}{[]}[[_

  • @b2l4evr

i see bunch of vaginas. is that why it is the top comment?

  • @jon1151 either your girl has a very strange cunt or you are just realy stupid

  • This is why I love Maynard, and Tool. Every song has amazing lyrics.

  • i wish i heard this song on wednesday morning, would have saved alot of pain

  • 1:27 says it all about this song

  • exsistance in this reality is what you make it for yourself theres more after we leave here

  • this certainly isnt the average 4/4 rock song

  • @metalmilitia137 You realize you just gave it a perfect score right? 4/4 is a 100%...

  • @TheSicknessIsTheCure no im talking about the time signature, most rock songs have a 4/4 time signature

  • @metalmilitia137 Oh, wait, I'm so sorry, I read that comment completely wrong. It was around 1am, please excuse me haha.

  • @TheSicknessIsTheCure o lol no prob

  • @TheSicknessIsTheCure lol..... just funny

  • 2:05 - 2:30 ...

  • the vocals at around 2:10 remind me of Rob Plant O.o

  • I love the frogs croaking at the end. Its a nice serene feeling after a song as intense as this.

  • who says "the bomb"

  • Anybody else hear the crickets and shit at 5:40?

  • @TheDrugsWantMe "Im not alone"o.oi hear it to

  • @TheDrugsWantMe lol yeah thank you headphones

  • 37 people are tools!

  • These guys are not from the United Kingdom. They are second tier.

  • @CRESCENDOPOWER Riiiiiiiiiiiight... kinda like Pink Floyd...

  • the video to this is really trippy. i feel like im on drugs when i listen to tool.

  • I love it when people try to sound intellectual when commenting on a Tool video.

  • @MisterNatMan I like it when they fail miserably at it, and I'm a dumbass.

  • @MisterNatMan Didn't you know? Every person who comments on a tool video knows Maynard personally, as well as his exact motive for writing the song.

  • @MisterNatMan Pardon me Sir; but that is not true ,and i implore you to please excuse me if i bother you.Thanks.

  • @MisterNatMan Douche

  • @MisterNatMan Maybe, in reality they aren't trying. Maybe they are actually an intellectual human. Although that is quite difficult to come by.

  • @MisterNatMan Pardon me, my good sir, but those who listen to Tool are quite the intelligent bunch... Don't you agree?

  • @MisterNatMan lol yuh

  • Sex is just the selfish spreading of your fucking gametes. The reason some girls are more attractive than others is in their fertility, which their facial features are a physical representation of. You could create a mound of flesh that looks hot.

  • 666,000 views! ]m/

  • i dont know where i'd be without tool.

  • @TheThunderGirl1 same here

  • you can interpret the song however u like and thats just that!

  • I'm glad Maynard thinks deeply and states eternity, how the human mind creates illusions, and how this body is ultimately holding our souls.

  • someone hold me!

  • Great song?? Thats a total understatment..

  • The message this song conveys is beautiful.

  • i love this song ^-^

  • like this if you've achieved 46 & 2

  • i agree with that first statement

  • Comments on tool videos are so deep and thought provoking. Bring a smile to my mind's eye :3

  • δεν υπάρχουν λόγια για να περιγράψεις αυτό το κομμάτι.

  • @koukouroukou12345 Art, that's how you describe this.

  • @ShokanPrince812 obviously lol

  • Good god, please disable the comment section.

  • Tool sucks! Just ask Rolling Stone Magazine who listed the greatest 500 songs of all time. Get a-load of the B52's, and all the other (biased few) multiple artists they seem to believe are the greatest. LOL

Tool is simply sick, there is no other adjective in the english language to describe it.

  • @CRESCENDOPOWER You follow other people´s opinion, meaning you have no self opinions about music, or taste.

  • @s4n714g000 @1094tj You guys! He wasn't insulting Tool! He was being sarcastic to make fun of the incredibly biased "greatest" lists Rolling Stone puts out. Sick also means cool or awesome.

  • @CRESCENDOPOWER Really? Sick? Elaborate if you don't mind. I think a lot of their songs teach lessons personally.

  • @1094tj "sick" means "awesome"

  • @CRESCENDOPOWER well said lol

  • thank you so much I tried dozens of sites for lyrics and they were always waaaaay off on the lyrics

  • I woke up one day and realized that I didn't believe in God anymore. So no God, no afterlife... we just die. Cars, women, fam, house, land, does not matter if you just become bones in the end. Sad. Woke up that night floating 1 ft off the bed paralyzed, Euphoric. I freaked out at first, and then started telling myself it''s all gonna be ok after all. There was a halo around me radiating light rays. Then a powerful voice said, "There is an afterlife.". That's what this song reminds me of.

  • @dallasinnyc We are eternal. Just not in "this body". Our earthly vessels only carry us so far...

  • @dallasinnyc All is one.. in spirit and in being this is all we and you and I are. The spirit you are me and the soul of the world, the soul of the world... we are choosing to be here, we are never alone (yet we always are)God/the soul of the universe and that soul wich is in all of life will show you the way, read the omens

  • @dallasinnyc this just happened to me, and im on the line between the two..... it sucks horribly and now im depressed and listening to music similar to this......... (not saying its a bad thin i love tool) im scared and i dont know what to do anymore

  • @TheChowchow1995 trust the universe

  • Eternal... Perpetual.

  • Pain is an illusion.....

  • Is it me or does everyone who listens to Tool use drugs?

  • Comment removed

  • @akkermanism

    Yes. Yes we do! :)

  • @akkermanism

lol weed for me...... and a little lsd

  • Narrow minded self thought possessing none sense... Nothing to do with sex. It has to be with self awareness and understanding that our existence isn't perfect in the sense that we shouldn't expect to be enveloped in nothing but joy and happiness and that pain and suffering is part of the human condition. It is a song of celebrating life as a whole. Where do they talk bout sex in any fashion?

  • @ejflesher your right its about choseing to live and bethankful about it or not live and be depressed and down all the time, pain can only be felt by those that choose to let it take over them.sometimes we cant help it so we have to look for a way out like a friend or a family member,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,or a song.thoose who dont understand have never felt such pain before

  • @mikebmix Well said.

  • @mikebmix You know...i`m just fucking tired to hear the same clichés everywhere like : "don't let the pain taking over you", "don't let sadness and depression kill you" "see the beauty of life", "live" etcetera etcetera. Say that to the poor little kid who was brought to life by idiot parents just to dig more into the landfills of Nairoby. I mean, yeah, its alright here in our pathetic life to think positive and "oh let the rainbows" or "unicorns"..... I`m not a good engliish speaker sorry

  • @ejflesher If you question motive or relativity, you can easily retort with a comment like "Sex, the bringer of life, death, pain, and joy." Thus leaving your previous comment null and void. It's all about self evaluation, development, and meaning. I leave you with 2 pertinent quotes.

"I think therefore I am" (Cogito ergo sum)

"Perception is reality" (Perceptio est res)

  • @caramelskater Or, I can quote my national philosofer: "Humans are the animals who see themselfs living" (E. Cioran)

Or, by the same autor:"Sadness makes mystery accessible. But inexhaustible mystery and sadness is so rich, so sadness never stops to be enigmatic." "An animal who suffer for something he cannot be, that is the man"

  • @ejflesher A fucking men

  • @ejflesher Dunno but, it goes well with fast aggressive snowboarding.

  • @ejflesher "precious moment" "hold on, stay inside" "this body, this body holding me" "choosing to be here in this body". i feel the emotions you've said outside of sex.but i also feel them very profoundly and frequently during sex. the song is open to interpretation. i'm not a grammy-winning band, but if someone took my song in a fascinating fashion like the "sex" theory and i didn't intend to put it in the lyrics, i would be impressed by my own muse and the listeners' smarts.

  • @Dfrtx I wouldn't call the sex theory fascinating at all. I think the generally accepted interpretation about connection with life and the moment is a far more fascinating theory. Needless to say, the sex theory applies to almost all of modern day pop music, so it reduces the uniqueness of the theory.

I would be far more impressed by my listeners' smarts if (s)he looked deeper into the meaning of my song and theorised that it was about connection etc even if it was about sex!

  • @Dfrtx Interesting thought, but I have always felt all the descriptors you quoted where about embracing the pain in life whether body or soul and knowing that all that suffering is passing and it's okay to be in this moment and body as the pain will pass. It feels to me to be song of someone talking themselves down from some traumatic experience or painful existence and understanding that this too will pass. But I guess I won't say you can't interpret art in whatever way one chooses.

  • @ejflesher Sex is a part of life, so you answered your own question.

  • @ejflesher

Although I tend to agree on the interpretation of the song, I disagree on the part that the other interpretation is wrong.

Interpretations are like opinions, none can be outright discarded as "wrong", with things like art there can't only be black and white.

Although an interpretation might not be what the artist intended, it shouldn't be discarded. After using words like Narrow minded, you might wouldn't want to phrase your view like this.

  • i fuckin love tool because when u listen to their songs you here such depth and emotion, they are one of the few bands that can call themselves artists

  • @GetFuckingAngry i envy you of your name -_-

  • TOOL ROCKS, their lyrics have such amazing meaning and their music ROCKS!

  • we are choosing to be here

  • Erotic :D

  • snaredrum reminds me of this one kide at my school who tries to pick fights with everyone but fails..... badly.... oh yeah, and he has no life to back it up.he just trolls us. i see alot of that kid in you snaredrum.... are you from northport highschool?

  • i played this song on guitar hero world tour bass....man it was hard....but FUCKING moving

  • ALIVE.... your first breath, Did you know that first gulp of air is still in your lungs?

  • it is Maynard talking to himself (his shadow ) convincing him self to stay in this body (armor or shell) . All pain he feel is an illusion BUT he and his shadow are eternal .. it is like he is sending a msg to suicidal people .. Don not ,, embrace your life and you can break through if u believe that pain and agony etc .. all illusions .. controllable

  • THIS SONG IS A WORK OF ART!!

  • Tool covers a Doors song or it shuts down it's nasty ass wannabe attempts at being a c- back street unkown band. Understand?

  • @snaredrum110 Youre too cool for posting on you tube you should make your own blog

  • This Song Is AWESOME!

  • This isn't music...This is an awakening of the mind, body, and spirit.

  • sooo? the tool is the scientific calendar I always have with me and is aloud to use? oh well then......sweet.

  • @RabbitHoly101 I mean calculator not calendar sorry.

  • Danny carey just murders every track he's on

  • @westcoastchomp He's a pretty good drummer but I smoke him..

  • does the video not have a diferent version of the song sorry if i'm being an idiot i'm not exactly familiar with maynard but i'm sure he says this body differently he kinda screams it

  • I love the 5 seconds before the first chorus! Something about how the vocals sound with the drums just make my life.

  • @fighterboy10 Too bad you have zero talent huh?

  • @snaredrum110 If that were true, we'd finally have something in common.

  • @fighterboy10 You have proven some talent in life? Not as far as I can see you haven't. fail until proven..

  • @snaredrum110 I'm not going to try to prove anything to some bitchy old man who doesn't even have the intelligence to listen to a band as emotionally and socially aware as Tool. I could talk about my musical, academic, or athletic abilities on and on to you, but the fact of the matter is that YOUR only true talent is to amuse me with how incredibly unintelligent and narrow-minded you are.

  • @fighterboy10 In other words you=ain't got shit in any impressive abilities...lol...thanks for reverifying the obvious

  • @snaredrum110 Did I say impressive? I'm not some asshole who goes around boasting about how great he is. By the way, I'm truly sorry I used too many big words in my previous post. It must have made thinking of a retarded response really difficult. I forgot you cannot comprehend (that means understand) 3 or more syllable words. I finally understand why you hate this song. The name is 4 syllables. Mystery solved :)

  • @fighterboy10 lol your funny

  • @GetFuckingAngry fighterboy is angry troll that isn't pro musician and lacks impressive abilty at any endeavors in living as well. He is quite jealous of my drumming prowess and make it clearer on each post..

  • @snaredrum110 id like to see some of those

  • @snaredrum110 it seems you started the argument of who has more talent when his comment had nothing to do with it

  • @GetFuckingAngry I like your name. How come you don't seem to resemble it ever?

  • @snaredrum110 its moronic. the idea is to get fucking angry at me for giving my opinion because people love to bitch about shit all the time. i just say get fucking angry and let it out cause i dont give a fuck

  • @GetFuckingAngry Nice name. What kind of meds calm you down to the "I don't give a fuck" level???

  • @GetFuckingAngry How many assault related felonies do you have on your jacket?

  • @snaredrum110 none so far

  • @GetFuckingAngry Prozac for you?

  • @snaredrum110 no, just a stable mind
