  • FUNK

  • Actually I like this one better than the original, RHCP RULEZ!

  • .... killed it...

  • when did long hair become too generic for rock?

  • Awesome!

  • What i love about this is that its literally a COVER not a remake of the song with a different sounding singer, whether its good or not give them some respect for making basically a different song entirely with the same lyrics

  • It is not bad, just very diffrent from Bob Dylan

  • Look, for all you haters out there raging on this cover, what they have done is they have shown such respect for the song they made a cover of it. So stop moaning about what is better or worse, music is for enjoyment and soulfulness, not to be compared and abused.

    Fucking Trolls.

  • horrible

  • lol wtf this is horrible

  • Spoiled shits can't ever handle the funk.

  • fuck this shit. they fucked it up. idc if theyre being indited in the hall of fame, they suck ass

  • @jacobkobee wow stop crying, RHCP are genius and the best musicians alive, call a better band or fk off with your bullcrap

  • I wouldnt call it good or bad... it just doesnt work quite right. maybe if they put more of their own style in it or something. **shrug**

  • @ryedain RHCP not putting their style into something? wow, what makes you think THAT?

  • @bergjasper It's not that they didn't put any of their own style into it. It just needed either a little more, or a little less. It was ok. Not good exactly, but not too bad. It just needed a little more of a push one way or the other.

  • @ryedain Hmm I personally do not agree, I love it the way they done it here, but that's about opinion :)

  • One of the best covers of all time, certanly their spin, yet trying to show respect to the original. good to randomly find this live. SandWrestling(dot)com

  • cover your song with your own style and yeah

  • this sucks

  • what the fuck is the hate about dude?? fucking bob dylan closed minded fans?? get over it. he likes electric guitars

  • what an honor!

  • no, no, THIS is not a good cover. sry to the rhcp fans, but its the truth. this is just stupid. not be band itself, but the cover.

  • too FuNkY....ohh yeah#########

  • God I hate my generation!!!

  • @JVKProduction yeah your music really sucks..to bad , but the culture of the last 20 years really does too.... its all over for the USA any way The Politicians, are in bed with wall street, but they prentend to chastise them, but really are conspiring against the middle class to keep you down and Obamma is Satan In Disguise. He will take us to the Greek situation in less than 18 months...by Suckers, soon no more money in the Banks, nor food in the supermarkets, leavin while there is still time

  • Shit cover

  • friday - rebecca black was a bob dylan cover too but music nazis gonna hate

  • does this even qualify as a cover? they just use the same lyrics...literally NOTHING else is the same

  • @npnovak911 yeah, that's because is a cover, not a COPY, this is exactly how I think a cover should be, you pick up a song you like and create your own version of it with your feeling and passion. Dylan and RCHP are fuckin great!!

  • anthony is a punk

  • Perfect ! ;D

  • Always found it hilarious that Anthony is notorious for forgetting his own lyrics yet he remembers all the words to this!

  • @coronalite96 Get lost..you jerk off, Your generations music sucks. I dont give a fuck what you think,sonny.. So what that they are good technichal players.Their music is only listenable to your generation, "Californication"...HAHAHA , what the fuck is this???...Most All generations like The Bbeatles, Chicago< CSN&Y, Dylan,Moody Blues,Springsteen,The Who, these groups have music that is Music, not fuckin Loud noise, By punks that have to take their clorhes off to get noticed.. G F Y...

  • @jjs499 I get it, so you refuse to accept any music that isn't from your generation, slightly pathetic don't you think?

  • people should get mad at glee covers... not the red hot ones... RHCP rock hard.

  • omg freakin awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • I liked it better with Hillel on guitar. Why can't JF do the solo on this song?

  • Pushin the envelope, just like Dylan has always done! Great cover by these guys, who have always been true to their art. I'm an avid Dylan fan, and this version rocks!

  • Forget it, Give it away will never be a classic Rock song, yes and all the groups you mentioned arent relavent in mainstream classic rock. Rage againts the machine...r u kidding, they re all in jail man...LOL...I wouldnt walk across the street for free to see any one of them. Youll never convince me .. and youll never see me here so enjoy your bands, whatever...My whole point was The R and R Hall is not relavent anymore with the garbage they inducted in past 5yrs. More categories, needed,

  • @jjs499 Dude you're making less and less sense. I said if you think RHCP represents all that's bad with this country I can't imagine what you would think of Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Black Sabbath or Rage Against the Machine - that's all. There are A LOT more controversial bands out there than RHCP. By the way, no member of Rage Against the Machine has gone to prison, you're making that shit up. Oh and classic rock/modern rock, fuck it, it's all rock! Who cares about R&R Hall of Fame anyway

  • I love this! :D

  • THIS is real music!

  • Really can't see what people see in this band... and they should be strung up for destroying a classic...

  • Bob Dylan first Rapper. Not bad version i prefer Dylan but this isn't bad.

  • @PeaceViberations was not a rapper bro he sang or semi sang and it wasnt very rhythmic with music like rap is but good observation

  • @PeaceViberations actually Frank Zappa is... also FZ released first double rock record, not dylan.

  • I been listening to this song for about forty years and this cover is GOOD bet Bob appreciates it even if some of his 'fans' don't ha.

  • butchering the song !

  • i thought this video was for Peppers fans?

  • @rcanheta well said, The Peppers belong in a cage, They sound like Coked up animals so cage them like animals...They combine Metal with Rap, 2 Genres that represent death , violence and drugs, Real nice combo...Dylan I admit wrecked his voice with cigaretts, Proably pot and whisky , but he wrote a lot of classics, Music and Lyrics....Soo many people covered him, THe proofs right out there, He really helped Peter Paul And Mary too..Mary travers , so sexy, great voice for them, rlly Miss her

  • love Bob* , but this is a cool version , very red hot

  • this is great!!!!! i love covers of old songs shows big respect for old artists~~~~~

  • Indeed it was. The album was released in 87 and Hillel died not even a year after. This was also the only album to include all 4 original members.

  • Was Hilel the original guitarist on this RHCP version?

  • They always sound the same, even when they do covers... Amazing...

  • I love love love the original, but this is really good! <3 RHCP

  • I'm so fucking surprised by the quantity of thumbs down, this song is one of my favorites in album.

  • @AllTheWorldGetsHigh this is covers usually recieve thumbs down, especially if its a cover of a big artist done in such a radical way

  • anyone who can actually diss the chili's are fucking idiots, downright idiots.

  • haters gonna hate.

this is a fucking good cover

rhcp made this song their style.. funky rap or whatever

i really like this version and i like dylan's too

  • Sounds like early Peppers. Huge fan of later Peppers but not really their first few albums, a little crazy, chaotic and all over the place for my liking

  • yucky

  • WTF!!!!

  • fuckin' horrible. i'm off.

  • I like Dylan's version better - simply because RHCP just made the song sound like almost every other one of their songs. But I like RHCP, no doubt about that.

  • this sucks

  • @hhhthegame115 YOU SUCK ASSHOLE HIJ0 DE PUT@

  • ok guys........ SHUT THE FUCK UP! stop arguing over witch version is better. both the original, and this version are completely different styles of music. rhcp put their funky twist on it, which is fine! we all have different opinions on music so just chill. me? im a die hard rhcp fan, so i like this version better..... PERSONALLY.

  • 1:39 is the funkest dancing I have ever seen

  • LA ORIGINAL DE BOB DYLAN ES MAS ABURRIDA QUE LA MIERDA.....LOS RED HOT REVITALIZAN TODO

  • @TRUCOYTECULEO Pobrecito.

  • @diazbass14 Y QUE PROBLEMA TE HACES VOS?

  • @diazbass14 AH GUARDA ME HABLO UN ESPAÑOL. TOMATELA

  • ORIGINAL BY BOB DYLAN IS SO BORING.......RED HOT GAVE TO THIS SONG MORE LIFE AND ENERGY

  • original by bob dylan is so much better <3333

  • I curse you.

  • Despite being one of the biggest Chili's fans out there, I gotta say..... Let's not rip on the original.

  • Funny, It occurred to me 20 years ago that this song was a precursor for rap/hip-hop..

  • @PreacherofArrakeen

Agree with your there! The first music video, (that wasn't just a band playing) and primeval rap (with much better poetry than we get today!)

(Mind you, I'm a bit resentful that this may have triggered all those crap music videos we get to watch these days, I'd rather see the musicians making the music)

Dylan in his book "Bob Dylan Chronicles" seems to have a lot of respect for the rappers.

  • hip hop*

  • @69MrMojo hip hop??????? funk rock!

  • Really disgusting compared to the original song...They fucked the beautifull Dylan's song turning it in some nasty hip hip...arrghhh!

  • Nobody can beat bob dylan

  • @sannydanders RED HOT DO

  • wow that rocks - that's how you cover a Bob Dylan song - make it your own (and don't suck doing it) - this song fits so well for the peppers

  • Sure Bob would approve and they obviously like him - "Hot chili peppers in the blistering sun" - Romance in Durango.

  • lol it's simple, red hot fans are going to prefer this version, because well, it sounds like red hot.

I personally hated, maybe because i don't their style, and the original is one of my favorites songs ever.

  • they are incomparable

  • buy an ounce of silver for peace

  • It' ok to say a cover of any Bob song is better than the original. He's the poet. As a performer he's got a big case of "don't give a damn".

  • Dylan's lyrics are just as perfect as RHCP's music.

  • this band is my life!!!

  • CHAD on RED!!!!!

  • If this was NWA maybe, Or Public Enemy?. But a bunch of scrawny white boy wannabes? Not close? Well sang? How 'bout not sang at all? What a crock. Sang isn't English.

  • @aprilglaspieable Wannabes? wow, are you shitting me? These "white wannabes", as you like to call them, are one of the greatest musicians still alive. Jeez, get to know what's good music before making comments about it

  • LMAO at all of the Dylan fans who are super upset by this performance. Be happy. The Chili Peppers are showing love for the song and put their own unique sex-funk mix on it. =)

  • @Suplexmachine Agreed. This is a great performance, really awesome! Got this full concert and it's totally awesome!

  • @Suplexmachine mmm sex funk

  • @Suplexmachine THis version sucks. Has no resemblance to the original.... Dylan doesnt need these fools to make or keep him relevant. ...Give me a fuckin break... You fool... This group sucks...R&R Hall Of SHAME JUST LOST ALL CREDIBILITY, PUTTING THIS WHITE TRASH INTO THEIR HALL...

  • @jjs499 Some cover songs sound a lot like the original, some only share few similarities...that's the beauty of a cover song. Choosing how to cover a song is half the fun. You say Dylan doesn't need these "fools to make or keep him relevant"? That's not what they're aiming to do here. They just like the song, so decided to cover it and have some fun. Big deal. RHCP are actually quite talented musicians. You're the first person I've ever heard call RHCP "white trash" LOL

  • @Suplexmachine Man Dylan stands on his own, I was making a point to another poster. If you want to call them talented musicians, so be it... on classical rock stations, i never hear them. Point is they will have made nothing relevant or lasting that will endure for future generations like Jagger, Lennon and MCartney, Johnny Cash, Dylan, Crosby Stills and Nash, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Webb,[ who I bet you probably never heard of LOL} ...So have fun with your peppers, ive heard enough.....

  • @jjs499 You were making a point to someone else yet you directly replied to my comment in the first place? Hmmm...anyways, yes, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante are ridiculously talented musicians. Youtube them for proof. Why would RHCP be played on classic rock stations? Those stations are reserved for mostly 60's - 80's rock. And yes RHCP has made relevant and lasting music that will last for future generations - I suggest you Wikipedia them. BTW I listen to everyone you named. =)

  • @Suplexmachine TELL MEe WHAT FUCKIN SONG THEY EVER RECORDED, THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED15 YEARS FRM NOW? SOXS ON COX?? HA WHAT A FUCKIN JOKE.....THEIR SONGS HAV NO MELODIC VALUE, ITS ALL VIOLENT IN YOUR FACE NOISE ABOUT DRUGS AND VIOLENCE, THEY STOMP AROUND ON STAGE WITH THEIR FALSE BRAVADO, TAKING THEIR CLOTHES OFF.. WITH THEIR STEROID MUSCLED BODIES, SHIRTS OFF, FUCKIN PUSSIES... THE MISGUIDED WENNER AND HIS MISGUIDED BAND OF DUMMIES,REALLY DISGRACED A ONCE LEGIT ALL OF FAME,

  • @jjs499 songs that will last the test of time: Californication (yes everyone knows it, even if you don't like it, and more will continue to hear about it), songs that have melodic value: I could have lied, Scar Tissue, Dani California, Otherside, Zephyr Song, i think you should really listen to some songs, before you make such a blatant assumption

  • Songs that will last test of time: Californication (yea, even if you don' like, it's been heard by tons of people, and will be continued to be heard by many more). Melodic Songs: Scar Tissue, Otherside, Zephyr Song, I Could have lied, Dani California, Snow (Hey Oh), and more. Should be more open minded and listen to more before making such a blatant assumption.

  • @vishalgulve Ill take the Dave Clark 5, CSN&Y< Kansas, Springsteen, [ O, crse the Beatles and Stones, Wings] Moody Blues, Chicago Transit Authority. You get the Picture. More moeodic and more great vocal harmony singing. THe way music or rock or whatever category TRHCP's are, and the bands u mentioned just changed with the times we are in angier times, thus angry , in your face, confrontational music, that is escalating with the anger and hate in the USA these days... hope u enjoy the HOF Crmny

  • @jjs499 Don't be ignorant, here's some melodic RHCP songs for you: Soul to Squeeze, Road Trippin, Slow Cheetah, My Friends, Venice Queen, This Velvet Glove, Scar Tissue, Otherside, Wet Sand, Californication, Desecration Smile, Tear, Melancholy Mechanics, I Could Die For You, Midnight, Cabron, Under the Bridge, Tearjerker, Gong Li, Transcending, Porcelain, Hard to Concentrate, Hey, Snow (Hey Oh), Meet Me At the Corner, Police Station, Brendan's Death Song, Happieness Loves Company, ETC. ETC. ETC.

  • @Suplexmachine..... forget it Joe....ill never listen to the pepers, And just enjoy it ...youl never covince me...we will never have groups/ songs as the groups in the era's I mentioned... I could care less, i dont listen to this garbage.... so Just enjoy it. Im outta here...anymore messages that show up, just know i delete w/out reading... go play in traffic....

  • @jjs499 Fine, continue to stay ignorant. I supplied you with many melodic, acoustic songs by the Chili Peppers and you're choosing to not listen to them. I've been nothing but nice to you the whole time, while you've been calling names and telling me to go play in traffic. You're absurd. I wonder if you speak to people the same face to face as you do on the internet? I'm coming off as the more logical, nice person and you're coming off as a bitter ignorant asshole. =) You're a music snob.

  • @Suplexmachine He's not a music snob. He's just a troll. Just remember, there's a special place in hell for trolls :)

  • Comment removed

  • @jjs499 Here's some RHCP songs that are very well known and will stand the test of time: Under the Bridge, Give it Away, Breaking the Girl, My Friends, Californication, Scar Tissue, Otherside, Can't Stop, Zephyr Song, By the Way, Dani California, and I'm sure there's more...I don't understand why you're so upset. If you think RHCP is the downfall of society I can't begin to imagine what you think of Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Rage Against the Machine, etc.

  • @Suplexmachine oh Really... i bet you didnt even have any inkling of who Jimmy Webb was, Admit it dnt lie.You went an ggled Jimmy Webb, and now know your Peppers couldnt hold his jock as far a writting great melodic songs. The peppers represent all thats bad in this country. Cheap and dirty Cant Keep their clothes on , disgrace. And You mention that the rest of the band members are great players??SO WHAT, a lot of bands have great players. Its the kind of music the leave as their leggacy.

  • @Suplexmachine AND NO dont listen to the great artists that I mentioned, You and the Peppers deserve each other...

  • the kickass version !

  • I like Chili Peppers but this sucks.

  • Then you're no real RHCP liker, cuz this is great

  • meh

  • A cover is only worth the time of day if it is both different and really good. This is a classic example of just that.

  • def not better, lyrics are sung, but not felt and real like bobby d

  • Unwatchable

  • The guys who can't appreciate/don't know what punk funk is sound like old farts complaining here. This is for the funk freaks, strictly. Don't try to drain our energy

  • @pedrosobota You're soo fucking right man!

  • @pedrosobota afucking men! i am a huge pepper fan but also a huge dylan fan and i think it is to kpool that the peppers show love by putting there bown spin on a classic and keep it alive! ne 1 who dislikes it just vcant appreciate music for what it really is and thats just freedom of expression!

  • thats unfortinate

  • i don't understand the comparison between dylan and rhcp, dylan, writing this song, created the beginning of rap music. u prefer RH? no problem but realize how much this song is important sung by Bob

  • not impressive really. This song loses a lot without the fast pace.

  • I like the bass..

  • You cant really say whats better because the versions are so vastly different, dylans version is great, chili peppers version is great, end of story. theres no comparison.

  • Legend has just begun

  • Dylan is better, always

  • I concur. This version of the song licks the sweat off a dead man's balls. Eat a bag of shit. You suck.

  • tragedy!!!!! very very bad.....It's a Dylan song!!

  • Love!

  • well this sure is different, cool but I still like dylan's better

  • Flea's fucking insane :L :L :L

  • i love rhcp, but i definitely prefer dylan's original.

  • To be honest i hear this version before i heard the original version and after my brain has been chilified it is hard to get in to the original Bob Dylan version. The chili definitely made it their own,

  • ugh so...much....funk.

  • i cant believe people dont like this song. bob dylan cover or not, this song kicks some serious ass.

  • This is good in the way that laying a big turd is good. A huge satisfaction for the turd-layer. A big stinking mess for everyone else.

  • I love the RHCP and Dylan, but this doesn't work for me at all. Much prefer their covers of Love Rollercoaster and Higher Ground.

  • Would "everyone" still think that this song sucks if it had different lyrics?

cmon...tell me what this song has in comon with bob dylans?

    except for the lyrics...NOTHING!

    morons!

  • @typo1337 Just like Hendrix version of All along the watchtower, just lyrics are the same.

  • Ear cancer approaching....

  • I'm an old-timer, and I admit it's taking some time to adjust to it, but it actually reminds me of FZ's covers of Hendrix and Zeppelin. Some humor, some style alteration to make it "theirs," and just enough "in yo face," to justify doing it in the first place. I think it'll grow on me, but it will NEVER replace the original.

  • i don't think it works with kiedis's style of singing

  • this is awful

  • subterranean funked up .....

    coolest cover yet

    bob will be honoured .....

  • like the song for what it is not who is doing it its a grate song no matter who is doing it

  • is that John on guitar at this point? i cant tell with that hair

  • eeer..

anyone noticed that except for the lyrics this song has NOTHING in common with the original!

    i mean honestly!

if this song had different lyrics everyone would say "FUCKING AWESOME SONG"

but now some "iknoweveryhtingaboutmusicandclassicsarealwaysbetterthannewones"-wannabes are talking shit about the RHCP "raping" a Dylan song...

this song is so fucking energetic and powerful and sick!

The way they are fucking around on the stage is awesome and the entyre Bassline is so sickkkkkk!

  • @typo1337 it dont have to be to be good. and this is awesome.

  • EWW! Fuckin horrible... the fuck?

  • @ZioStronzo

I was wondering the same thing! it kinda makes me angry to tell the truth but this version is still pretty good

  • Nice... but WHERE THE HOLY BLOODY FUCK CAN I FIND THE ORIGINAL? COPYRIGHT SUCKS!!!!!

  • Why all the haters? They made an own version of a song they love. The point of doing a cover isn´t to make it sound exactly like the original (like many coverbands think). They just recreated the song to fit their style better, not to dishonour bob.

And for those who doesn´t know this cover was made by the peppers on the uplift mofo party plan together with Hillel. So the cover was pretty old for them too at this point.

  • 0:39 is my stolen move from Flea that i regularly do dancing :P

For those bitching about it how shit it is, we can at least settle on one axiom. RHCP took a song & tried to bring it into their own style rather than copy it and pass it off as a ''cover''.

Some covers owrk out some dont, its all opinions at the end of the day. & i as a fan of RHCP will love anything they put out 99% of the time

  • @tvrulesnation hahah i also dance like this :D

  • 265 people didn't get mohawks

  • i know i am gonna get cursed out for saying this but this is way better then bob dylan's version.

  • @skizmsucks23 go die in a hole

  • @LittleBlackSparrow go fuck yourself

  • @skizmsucks23 no. not at all.

  • @Redbullgiveswgs11 rite! this is such a much better version of the song

  • @skizmsucks23

    >such a much better

no it isnt. just go away. this is trash. I like the chili peppers but this is garbage

  • @skizmsucks23

    >such a much better

no it isnt. just go away. this is trash. I like the chili peppers but this is garbage

  • @skizmsucks23 YOU SUCK

  • @skizmsucks23

Well, its different anyway. When Dylan came out with this it was really something new -

He's one of the most covered artists in the world, and my guess is he'd be happy enough with this one.

  • @grimwat yeah thats true. dylan made a folk song and the chili peppers made it into a funk song. to be honest i dont really like folk music. but i love funk! best genere out there in my opinon.

  • I had no idea RHCP did this.... It's alright...

  • haha this is great! I'm a HUGE Dylan fan, but this is awesome - RHCP paying respect to Dylan in their own style... there's nothing wrong with that!
