my mum has had dreads for about a year now, and the hole dread is thined out and are starting brake about half way up. I have tryed to fix them up from your viedos but after a week or so her hair starts to thin out again. she had quite thick hair before the dreads. Would you know y this would be happening? Thanks
I am a hair stylist and I actually think that this is a pretty good method. I started my locs 8 months ago and I changed my grid pattern which resulted in some of my locs having that thiner section. Overall, my hair is pretty thick, but I have 3 dreads this could be useful on. Now, dreads is a mixture of dirt, hair that has started shedding so I actually don't see a problem with this method because the hair is being pulled from the end of the loc and not the root. Very informative.
I dont suggest that ayone use crochet hooks to do anything with there dreads..I know its not good to be ripping at your hair like that. When first startng your dreads you need to know how thick or thin you want them, that way you dont need to thicken anything up..Then you get loop and weird spots..Sometimes its best to trim em up and start th ends fresh

is it possible to crochet the dread back threw itself to make the entire lock thicker? i have dreads with really thin hair and was just wondering if there was anyway to make them thicker
honestly i've seen all your videos and every trick does work , just wanted to say thnx ajaj i've been looking for videos to help teach me new techniques and your videos are the only ones that actually help
I did my first dreadlock the other day and I was going to try and fix it with a crochet hook but it's really hard getting it inside the dreadlock, is the lock too tight?
@srgtfrog I combined 3 of mine, but they were only about a month and a half old. It seems like maybe, they would just take a while to lock together more.
Probably nothing went wrong, if the hook gets hard to pull out then the loc is getting thicker.
The only problem i can imagine is if you are pulling the hook straight out. Make sure to curve the hook out as its leaving so it does not rip any hairs.
Also the smaller the chrochet hook the smoother the action. So maybe your hook is too big.
Yes, a 1 mm is good to start with. Keep looking for a smaller one. 0.6 is my favorite. The smalle hook just forms the knots easyer so the locing is easyer. A 1 mm is fine too. The key is practice a little with it. You will see how the 1 mm works but has a slower action from having more friction.
The chrochet hook can be used to form the knots that make dreads. Just be warned that if your locs were formed using a twisting method, it may make a differnt look having the knots from the chrochet hook.
Hi SkillTeacher, great videos! Someone told me that using this method prevents dreads from ever properly maturing, and that its an 'ongoing drama' of maintenance, breaking hairs and weakening the locks. What would you say to this? Mine were started with crochet and I don't regret it, but it made me think whether natural dreads would lock better over a long time
I say this method gives a person complete control over the dread loc. It does require periodic maintenance, but it makes instantly mature dreads. The breaking of hairs comes from over working. And a weakened loc is from not thickening the thin parts. Letting a loc form naturally seems dirty. For some people the loc may never naturally form. This method seems to give people relief from the nappy tangled look.

Is .85mm crochet hook good???
toscamille 1 year ago
yes the .85 mm is a good size, not much bigger than my favorite .65mm. The smaller the hook the easier it will be.

is no. 13 crochet hook good? my hook has a different size i have no. 8 and no. 13 hook. what is the equivalent of 13 and 8 in mm size?
