Well, it has been awhile. After watching an hour of 80's rock, I needed a little acoustic break.
Guess what? This is as good as I think it was. And just in case no one has ever told you, your voice is spot on splendid. Maybe it is just this song, but the passion is there.
Of course, if I was you, I would retitle this to:
In God's Country (U2) - cover by Caroline or feathersgirl or whatever.
Gosh thank you, that's a comment well worth reading!
Thank you so much for your feedback on my voice, I honestly need to read stuff like that to realise that perhaps I'm not deluding myself after all!
Yeah I'll re-title it like you suggested. Is that to avoid infringing copyright laws or simply to make the video easier to find and therefore catch a wider audience?
Thanks for the dedication. But if I am being honest...
You laid that thing out and as Cowell would say, I don't say that lightly. You literally captured the song as it was originally wriiten, before other band members and producers changed it into what we hear on the CD. Just one guy (no reason to name names) on a guitar saying what he saw / felt.
Oh gosh thank you, that is praise indeed. I'm so glad you liked it because it really was quite different from the first time round, I wasn't sure if I liked it really so didn't know if you would! I think I do prefer it when I really belt the tunes out on guitar, like Ray noticed above, this 2nd attempt was much more quiet and contemplative.....
But thank you so much for your feedback, always appreciated :-)
Well to reconfirm, you played this cover in the style that Paul (everyone knows who that is) originally wrote it. So many great songs just start out with the writer and one instrument.
That is what I liked about your performance: it reminded me of MTV Unplugged. Even that show had post-production, which you didn't. That gives your performance even more merit.
Thank you so much, that means a great deal to me, I can't begin to tell you :-)
I certainly do know who the amazing Mr. Hewson is, unfortunately not in real life but who knows though........maybe one day I shall meet him and the rest of the band to pay my respect to their outstanding musical and lyrical combined genius.
Wow that would be something :-)
Thank you so much again, always, for your generous feedback :-)
Thanks. I can at least offer you a little treat. The current plan is to be in NYC next week. Part of the programme is attending the Saturday Night Live show, which just happens to feature U2 as the musical guest. Time permitting, I will show him your performance, albeit on a little portable device.
If not, there will be more time come October 23. Meanwhile, keep playing.
I think the reason why my guitar playing is so much quieter this time round is because I only have my cell-phone to record my videos with and so the mic isn't that good. So if I play too loudly the guitar drowns out my voice!
As soon as I sort out my new computer I'll be able to back to recording with a mic again (all being well!)
Hope you're ok Ray, thanks for being so fab and a good mate :-)
love you fantasic...umm why are you wearing a suit? ;)

The earlier version can boast a prodigious display of power guitar.
This 2009 version (how appropriate the lights are dimmer) is quieter and more contemplative. (Or maybe it's just the dog, I dunno!)
I like 'em both.
