In 2003 the New Haven Fire Department administered promotional exams for Captain and Lieutenant.

The city paid $100,000 to a high stakes diversity testing firm, IO Solutions, Inc. of Illinois, to design the exams to be completely free of any racial bias. This is necessary to avoid charges of disparate impact upon protected minority groups.

IO Solutions, Inc. is one of a few dozen firms which specializes in politically correct test design.

The NHFF tests were 40% oral, 60% written.

Can i speak as an African American man. The white firefighters should not have been denied their promotions on the fact that "minorities" scored less. Standards should NEVER be sacrificed. Instead go to the root of the problem which is our education system in high minority populated neighborhoods. Lets help our latino and black brothers and sisters get better instead of knocking them down. And lets not knock down those who achieve the standard regardless of race.

How about the fact that nearly 4 out of 5 black kids are born to an unmarried mother? Too many grow up in homes where no value is placed on education.

Hisapnic illegitimacy is high and white illegitimacy rates are rising.

More money per child is spent today on education than ever before yet graduation rates are falling - even in good neighborhoods.

2010; When I first heard this story, I was outraged. Seriously. I am white and have witnessed reverse discrimination for so long, sometimes, I find it difficult not to judge by race. However, I agree with half of your sentiment. We should go to the root of the problem and reward based on individual merit rather than racial entitlements. When you speak of the educational system, you fail to recognize that whites also live in these neighborhoods.

but those of color are so often rewarded 'entitlements' that many of them have come to expect freebies- based on their race. I've heard the oppressed race rhetoric and agree that at one time, much of it was true, but not in today's world. No matter the ethnic group you belong to, each has it's challenges to offer it's individual members.

I hope affirmative action does end. I am glad the S.C. ruled the way they did on this case. Nothing against those who are considered minorities but it takes away the sense of competition and hiring the best applicant and having to hire someone strictly because of color or race.

I do think that when the decision to prevent the white firefighters from getting the job simply because they were born white it really leaves alot to be questioned: what kind of person makes a decision based on avoiding a lawsuit instead of finding the most qualified candidate for a job?

First the scum at the city that said the people who passed couldn't be promoted because they were only white and hispanic, and secondly the judges they appoint like Sotomayor and the SC liberals who all 4 of voted against overturning this.
