You must be counting on your viewers being ignorant of history. Yes, the parties used to be pretty much opposite from what they are now. What did not change, however, was liberalism and conservatism. The Republicans used to be the liberal, progressive party up until the 60's, when the Democrats championed the civil rights movement. That's when Strom Thurman led the southern conservative Democrats to the Republican party, and they've been the racist, inbred, sheep-fucking party ever since.
