  • Fuck poseur Bon Fuckturd and annoying Turtle-Jew Paul Shaffer. Patty and Scandal are phenomenal. :)

  • Yeah that guitarist is really annoying. It almost looks like he is kind of pissed about something. Maybe they had a lovers quarrel before this video was shot.. lol.

But hey, he wrote this song, so I guess he can do whatever he wants..

  • Should have taken the VH gig!

  • O.K. let's give Paul credit where credit is due...he did not write this song!!...he wrote a more deep and meaningful song... "It's Raining Men!"

  • Paul Shaffer plays the Vox Continental in this video.

  • @fred 47a Nope. Shaffer only played on it. The song was written by Zack Smith, who wrote most of their hits. Great tune!

  • way better than the commercial version

  • ahh patty, my early 80s crush

  • me gusta mas esta versión, es mas rokera

  • Sonoerin! What happened to you!!

  • Jon Bon Jovi como guitarrista, meu amor!

  • Comment removed

  • First song I ever sang live with my band. Still my favorite to sing too. Never saw this video before. Thank you for sharing.

  • Of course that's Paul Schaffer on keys. And its Bon Jovi in the reddish shirt.Remember this is a demo of the song released before Scandal was known by anyone.Paul S. and Jon Bon were just beginning to get some kind of recognition back then but were far from well known. And all lived in the NY area.

  • ALSO, to the dumbass dislikes......GOODBYE TO YOU!

  • No its not Schaffer. He was a dj for a New York City station back then. He wasnt really that cool, and certainly not hip enough to play for Scandal. On a second note: we all love Pat Benatar no doubt; However, why isnt Smyth thought of in the same breath. That Letterman performance with bad accoustics and all, and Patty blew it away. Never Enough is fem rock at its best. As far as being hip, it goes to Benatar. As for being a ROCKER, it goes to Smyth......HANDS DOWN.

  • @kevingthompson13 Actually it is Schaffer. He wrote this song.

  • @fred47a No offence, but I hope thats wrong.Schaffers always been a spaz. I know with the NY connection with this band, he sat in for some concerts up north and when they were on letterman. Scandal was a cool band and Schaffer HAS NEVER BEEN COOL.As many musicians as I personally know theres only a handful I can say that about. Don Henley (wont allow his stuff on YT) and Neil Schon (I gotta be bigger than my frontman), and Jon Bon Jovi (I dont sign autographs at meet & greets) .Its a small list.

  • Wait a second! Is that Paul Schaeffer playing keyboards?!

  • @Kohntarkosz Looks like it.

  • That guitar player in the white jacket that sings into Patty's microphone gives me the creeps.

  • @vinceinzinna It wa a different time, different look. lol

  • i love this song

  • One of my fav tennis star in John and one fav singer of all time.I just heard a new girl and she reminds me of patty.

  • what year did the song come out?

  • That's Mrs. John McEnroe!

  • I shouldn't say but boy was she hot.and a great singer too

  • Isn't that Paul Shaffer, leader of "The World's Most Dangerous Band" for Late Night with David Letterman on keyboards?

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • this version is too busy and slow at the same time. Add a driving drum beat, a driving pulsing keyboard part, remove a lot of embellishments, and an expertly executed keyboard solo by Paul Shaffer. Bam! Instant hit.

  • She Rocks!

  • Bon Jovi is in there too :)

  • @snarlingrabiddog5150 Do you think Bon Jovi was in Patty Smyth, too? Lucky Bastard.

  • @krelbar He was in the "Love has got a line on you video" Scandal did and they used him for this date but I don't think he stayed long. ANYONE in her band were lucky, lol.

  • the best one!!!!!!!

  • Patty Smyth, reminds me an old friend of my class ..... and by the way, she liked this song!

  • I agree with Spiderking9...Patty had something about her besides beauty and being sexy! it was her energy, youthfulness, her genuine talent and charisma! She definitely had Gravitas!!! I dont know how old you are but im 45 now and i appreciate her even more now than i did way back then!

  • Good sounding organ but the original version is better. Can anyone find her first version of "So you wanna be a rock n' roll star"? So far I could never find it yet.

  • She's got a great voice. And she's kinda cute too. Great 80's song.

  • An amazing voice. 80`s music was ok. Some of it not all.

  • Interesting. I think I like the guitars better in this version than in the final, official version. I can actually hear what they're playing. But I think I like the vocals in the finished version. Go figure. LOL

  • Too cool, had never seen or heard this version before - thanks for posting!

  • -laughs- This song has utterly divided me and my friend. We both love the Veronicas' version, and she only just discovered it was a cover. She now loves this version, 'cause it's more her music, while I have to stay I'm sticking with The Veronicas on this one :P

  • yes that is john, check out" loves got a line on you -version 1" you see him much more clearly.

  • @lovethe80sguy

it's also Paul Schaeffer from SNL & Letterman on keyboards.

  • Is that Bon Jovi back there in the background?

  • this is a best song with scandal

  • i love SCANDAL ... come back Patty!!!!

  • LOL I love Patty and this group , and went through an 80s stage with them. I also loved their Warrior album with the videos that came with the songs. Paul S. playing with them is a trip!!!. This version is more rockish..the MTV verion was more retro 80.

Both are cool. Patty looked BEAUTIFUL in her duet with Don Henley Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough. Keep on rockin Mrs. John McEnroe.

  • @MaryMRevis

The final version was more like 80s New Wave; not retro, as it *was* the 80s at the time. ;) There are things about both version that I like.

  • This song is about getting your life together and getting rid of the loser who is holding you back in life, find the one for you , and move on with life""

  • Paul Schaefer is easy to spot, wonder why they barely showed Jon Bon Jovi (this was his first big band I guess), only closeup is at 1min30. First time I seen this video, only the other upbeat one in a white rooom with keyboards more noticeable.

  • Bon jovi in the background with the telecaster.....

  • man thats paul shaffer from late night with david lettermen

  • ¥T

  • Shes got this tough chick vibe thing about her at the same time shes so very GIRLY !!!! So VERY GIRLYYYYY !!! Great Combination !!!!

  • Fuck John Mcenroe that fuckin rackethead!!!!! LOL Lucky bastard !!! OMG Patty was so Damn HOT (still is) But in her prime lik ein this vid she had it ALL goin on !!!! Very Sexy with a SEXY voice and just a bouncy bubbly babe !!! Thinkin back on those days I was VERY into her and wanted her bad !!!! I do love watchin her a lot....what Sexy Pretty lil doll !!! Voice ...face...attitude.....and sweet body !!!!

  • Is that Paul Shaefer on keyboards.....?

  • @ernieblaze YES

  • @Spiderking9:

You spent many words to say one thing I would say very Succinctly: Sproing!

  • wow, the album version is better

  • is the guy in white sleeve one of the status quo members? also the guy in the drums looks like someone from Blondie....I dont know can anyone tell me if i am wrong. I ll get my glasses i ll be back..

  • I like both videos, but I'd go with the star power of Paul and Bon Jovi. You can't go wrong with those two.

  • I'm pretty sure that's Dee Murray (from Elton John's band, in the 70s) on bass, too.

  • Yes thats Jon Bon Jovi on guitar, this was done at a friends studio, she said and was the demo I believe for columbia and then they wanted to do the painted up plastic video.Yeh its a trip seeing Paul Schaffer on key boards. She wanted this one released and they did the other video.

  • wonder why the drummer changed the beat so much from the original. Sounds better with the ghost notes on the snare.

  • I played guitar with the guitar player.

  • I thought another Scandal, omg, you are kidding with me, young..

  • that's Letterman musician, who plays a song with her in that tv show in on 1987???? Scandal, in that moment, don't have a definitive group... or just changed some of them???

  • Is Jon Bon Jove playing guitar there??? :)

  • Wow I have never seen this version--Paul Shaffer?

  • my love pat

  • I love Patty's 80's vibe. Her throaty vocals rule! uh yeah.

  • she doesnt like the guitar player ..LOL you tell he looks like an ass

  • The Veronicas redid this....i like them better than this.

  • Is that Paul Schaeffer who Patty grabs at the beginning and also on keyboards?

  • @HerbBudworth Paul Schaeffer has mentioned on Letterman he was in Scandal.

  • @HerbBudworth I had to check in wiki... It is Paul Shaffer (Schaeffer) in this video.

  • Shes still Hot! I saw the VH1 band reunion

    ...

I got to see them live with John Waite

back in the day, a few weeks later Joan Jett

then the Pretenders a month later....

Miss those days and the quality of bands and music

Oh and got back stage to Cheap Trick, my sister worked for

the concert stadium and got so many free passes & back stage passes.

  • I think that's John Mc Enroe at 0:13.

  • LOL!

I'm pretty sure that's Paul Shaffer.

  • Not a bad version, but the final version is much better. Wow, Patty is good looking anyways, but this vid doesnt bring out her true beauty. Scandal rocks!

  • If You Want More 80's Music, Check Out My Channel.

  • OMG, John Bon Jovi, Paul Shaefer, Frankie Larocca on drums. I need to know when and where was this recorded ?? please..

  • I was told That she was once hitched to John Macenroe the tennis player. Don't know the Truth to it all but love the band style and her voice is beautyful.

  • yep, they are still married

  • Shaffer was a free agent back then on keyboards, he played with Booker T, The Band, and several other bands when they needed a keyboardist--problem was he didn't have the look that the bands needed, but his playing was pretty tight. Wasn't she married to the lead or rhytm guitarist? Or do I have her mixed up with her contemporary, Pat Benatar.I always thought she had as good or better range than Benatar, Harry, and Carlisle combined, with the right songs she would have went farther.

  • judging by those eyebrows, I'll bet Patty had one of those Kay Parker 70's porn bushes goin on down there.

  • Kay Parkers' bush was like a Persain rug. Exquisitly sexy- unlike Patty "poopy pants" Smyth, who, it is rumored, uncontrollably shit herself when she hit A above middle C. It's further rumored that her stinky condition was the reason Paul didnt stick around long and the entire bands high incidence of cocaine abuse. Seems the guys were trying desparatly to deaden their olfactory sense? Fact or fiction? No one knows? it is said that at the end,Scandal could only get booked at "open air" events.

  • @fred47a

because everyone knows who kay parker is

  • @fred47a Right? We didn't trim nothin back then!

  • @fred47a I don't care. I'd still hit it.

  • Actually Paul Shaffer wrote this song, and saw Scandal playing clubs in NYC and thought Patty Smyth had the right sound for the song and gave the song to Scandal. Paul Shaffer played key7boards on the original recording of the song, but was not a band member so was not on the MTV video.

  • No, it was one of the band who wrote the song. Zach Smith I think the guy's name was. I have to agree with megabelch that this doesn't kick as much as the original. They were having fun in that version. By this one they just sound sick of it.

  • Nope. Zack Smith wrote this song, and he still gets the checks to prove it.

  • Comment removed

  • Gr8 song. The faster version is beta but this was the early version. Luv it. My favs r Warrior & Goodbye To You. 80s 4ever

  • Patti Smyth was a hottie back then

  • I think Patti Smyth is married to former tennis player John mcEnroe.

  • This is a cool song demo.

  • paul shaffer didnt' make the cut when they did the glitzy mtv version. poor guy. i think he's done alright despite the dis...

  • This doesn't look like the original mtv video. The original mtv was a bit more up bit.

  • You're freaking kidding, right?

  • The lead singer looks so much different here than she did in the music video. What happened?

  • where did the last 27 years go.?

  • @sanddmann03 27 yrs, Holy crap. Didnt think of that. Has it been that long? Funny im still lissoning. Is that a bad thing?

  • @Wilie56 YEP!! It has been that long, and i'm still listening also... hahahahahahahahahaaaa!!

  • john mcenroe did good.

  • In the beginning the music that the keyboard's playing reminds me of Twinkies.

  • There is something about Patty's looks that if I was a young man I think I would have been obsessed with her. I don't know if it's the eyes, the hair, the voice or the jumping around, or that sensous mouth but there is something about this girl that definitely would make me want to be her love slave.

  • Perhaps the combination of everything you mentioned all in one incredible package? :-)

You're definitely not the only one,Spiderking9

  • Yeah, I agree!

  • @Spiderking9 Well I was a teen back then and I was kinda obsessed. As for what you think it was about her, I say all the above.

  • @humboldtus There is another girl like her, she's a religious preacher, blond with brown eyes named Paula White. You can find her on youtube. Sometimes I think Paula White studied Patty's moves on stage and she has the same feminine qualities, especially notice how Paula moves her hands around, head, and moves her feet when she get's going in one of those "spirit" moments. It's Patty!

  • @Spiderking9 been there done that...lol

  • @Spiderking9 John McEnroe is already her love slave LOL

  • @Spiderking9 Its the wide maseter (jawbone), and those deep well eyes....I have had a crush on her for years

  • @Spiderking9 - The little boobies.. lol

  • @Spiderking9 Back in the early 1980's when I was a young man of 18, 19 & 20 I was very obsessed with Patty. More than once I wanted to jump through the TV and jump her bones! I deliberately dated and more an older woman for a while because she looked a lot like Patty. (Suzanne where is she now?)

  • @Spiderking9 I was, oh yes, I was. I was in college when this came ou, and MTV was new. They still played videos back then!

  • Is it just me, or did they ALL change looks?

  • Damn, that is Jon Bon Jovi !

  • That is definitely NOT Eddie VanHalen.....No WAY

  • It's definitely Jon Bon Jovi. He played on some their early demos. If you watch "Loves Got A Line On You" you will see that it's clearly him.

  • Great voice and HOT as hell.

  • Yes, that is Eddie Van Halen on guitar and Paul Schaffer on keys. Eddie wanted Patty to repace David Lee Roth in VH but she turned down the offer. They have always been good friends.

  • I really love her voice

  • Never heard that before ... Patty in VH .. now that's a hoot. BTW ... it's Jon Bon Jovi on guitar ... not Eddie.

  • Is that Paul Schaffer on keyboard?

  • Yup and isn't that Eddie Van Halen on guitar?

  • Jon Bon Jovi

  • the keybord player makes me laugh

  • Oh kool.....i haven't heard this version. This band are the greatest.....that warrior album was seriously the best complete rock album of all time.I swear i know every note and fill and bass run on it,and she has my fave voice ever.

  • I only just realised that the Veronicas' version of this song was a cover. xD It's a pretty awesome song.

  • yeah :P

  • euri

  • is it just me or does she look like a 70's version of jordana brewster?

  • omg it does

  • Who was the drummer ?

I think Billy Idol got him

  • Drummer is Thommy Price and yeah he played with Billy. He's played with Joan Jett for quite some time now too.

  • Frankie C. LaRocka (originally LaRocca) from Staten Island NY. Born 1954 ..died May 12th 2005. (a friend of his)

  • patty is married to john mcenroe lucky bugger

  • I love this song!

And this is the song The Veronicas covered!

They did a great job too.

  • real nice voice, did they just have one album? thanks for any info, and thanks for the upload too

  • Your right bro, that is Dee Murry of the Elton John Band on bass.

  • I that Dee Murray from the Elton John Band on bass???

  • Big negative for the Miami Vice clothes. Plus one for Bon Jovi on guitar.

  • shes so hot

  • Much hotter on this than the "official" video of this song.

  • I love this song!

  • to yoooooohoooo :D

  • i dated a babe in high school that really was almost identical in looks as patty .... kathy grassi where are you ? hahah!

  • I'm here Sande. Give me back my watch you stole.

  • ha~ha~ha~!

  • does anyone know why paul schafer was there with the group Am i missing something, he wasnt in the group was he?

Where was this filmed at ??

  • This was pre-1982, which was the year Paul began working on the NBC Letterman show. At the time, Paul was well known throughout the NY musician scene, primarily thru his work as musical director for SNL from 1975 to 1980. He was part of Scandal in their development days while doing demo session work.

  • i am so glad the veronicas did the cover and they rock!!!with that song too they did a great job

  • I love this and the veroncias version is good too

  • Check my video of "Goodbye to You" by Going Postal.

  • oh very fascinating. The OTHER version, the single that was released, and the other video (without Paul Sch.) is one of my favorite songs. THIS version - not so much !!! They really upgraded the arrangement and the video by the time the OTHER video was done. This one, almost lame (in comparison) !!

  • Yes, this is slower and not quite as good in my opinion but still good! Kinda nice to hear the 2 different contrasts.

  • Although the video lacks Paul that's him playing on the recorded version. The musical break is his and is a tribute to Del Shanon's Runaway.

  • Paul Shaffer was a tool then, and he's a tool now. Can't decide if he looks more like John Clayton from ESPN or the cryptkeeper. The jury is still out.

  • LOL!!!!!!!

  • That's Paul Shaffer on keyboard! FUNN FACTS! Yeah!

  • This version is not as interesting than the other.....

  • this is older than original , interesting xd
