The two companies are not on speaking terms about SMRPG, so Geno wasn't in Brawl, and There's no way SquareSoft would let them make a character related to their game.
@CentralPerk68 I said poorly executed. The instruments don't blend well together. This doesn't sound pleasing, it sounds like a clusterfuck of orchestral instruments, that all sound similar. He keeps the bassline of the intro just cuz it was part of the original, when it would sound much cleaner without it. It would also benefit from using a variety of orchestral sounds.

Culex was NOT from FFII or IV. He was not even in the Final Fantasy series. He was created as a character to be similiar to bosses found in the Final Fantasy series. He is not any character from the series. the music is from Final Fantasy IV as it's supposed to be a homage to the series as Square created both Mario RPG and Final Fantasy. A very common misconception is that this theme is from Super Mario RPG. This theme is called "The Dreadful Fight" It was scored by Nobou Uematsu(Spelling?)For the game Final Fantasy IV. SMRPG was made by Squaresoft who also made all the FF games. So when they made Super Mario RPG they decided to throw in a boss that looked like it was from an FF game and toss in their most recognizable theme at the time. So the whole Culex thing was a tribute to Square's most lucrative franchise.
also after defeating him culex says "we will meet again in a nother world", showing that he was meant to be a boss or extra boss in a future final fantasy.
however, due to copyright problems among other difficulties he has yet to be in any other game.
The first time I fought him I was extremely underleveled....lasted 3 hours before he finally killed my party, lol. I came back after I got the Lazy Shell equipment and stomped him
Did you know that Paper Mario (N64) was about to be the "next" Super Mario: RPG, but Square argued that they had the copyright for Geno, Mallow, and music composed for them. They were forced to make a different title for it and exclude Geno and Mallow. I wish Nintendo did what they did to Atari's Tetris Copyright >_>.

A very common misconception is that this theme is from Super Mario RPG. This theme is called "The Dreadful Fight" It was scored by Nobou Uematsu(Spelling?)For the game Final Fantasy IV. SMRPG was made by Squaresoft who also made all the FF games. So when they made Super Mario RPG they decided to throw in a boss that looked like it was from an FF game and toss in their most recognizable theme at the time. So the whole Culex thing was a tribute to Square's most lucrative franchise.

Dreadful Fight is the music that plays during the Four Fiends battles while this music plays during normal boss battles.

also after defeating him culex says "we will meet again in a nother world", showing that he was meant to be a boss or extra boss in a future final fantasy.
however, due to copyright problems among other difficulties he has yet to be in any other game.

The first time I fought him I was extremely underleveled....lasted 3 hours before he finally killed my party, lol. I came back after I got the Lazy Shell equipment and stomped him

i remember the first time i fought culex i used mario (52) geno (55) and mallo (51)
i lost
then i came back later on with
mario (67) bowser (70) and peach (66)
killed him, that was fun

Did you know that Paper Mario (N64) was about to be the "next" Super Mario: RPG, but Square argued that they had the copyright for Geno, Mallow, and music composed for them. They were forced to make a different title for it and exclude Geno and Mallow. I wish Nintendo did what they did to Atari's Tetris Copyright >_>.

Culex is the epic-win combo of FF Villians and is completely original in the fact that he is only based off of other Villians for basic style. He is an Honorable Ass-Kicker who looks evil as heck.
