Curved Soprano. Altos dont have that kind of range w/o altisimo. And its for smoothing out the sound and reducing the reediness of it.

He has a day job as a dee jay in Los Angeles. 94.7 Saw him play in 2000 at the Mission at San Juan Capistrano. Fabulous.
