it doesn't matter what strickland is like..it does not matter how good his record is..this is the person who he is..he is very competitive but he respects good pool..when you watch him play efren or bustamante and they win..he never acts like this..this is triggered by mostly disrespect...i love tony drago for example, he is fun to watch, but he has no right to even smile or laugh at strickland, he is a nobody who couldnt win in snooker, tried pool sucked too..it is about respect from the fans 2

what is a "push"?

A push is a "free" shot given to the first shot in every 9 ball match...If the breaker breaks and pockets a ball but doesn't like where the cue ball ends up he may call a "push" and push the cue ball out...The opponent then has the option to either accept the shot or give it back to the pusher...Like I said you're only allowed to push 1 TIME every rack and it must be on the first shot!

Turned out to be a factor in the event due to USA not having Strickland - they played as a team. Strickland could easily have been the best player on the team this year if he made it, but your strongest player can't be an asshole. Otherwise it isn't a team, it's one guy and four other guys trying to keep up with his antics.

firstly, this is a team competition. of course they cheer for their own.

secondly, the crowd did not start heckling strickland until he started to make rude comments for which he was warned by the referee. other than that, the crowd was fairly subdued.

thirdly, why do you think the crowd is biased towards strickland. maybe its because he has a history of insulting officials, fans and other players, even when unprovoked.

Earl got what he deserved. He's a great player, no doubt, but a weak sportsman. He acted very rudely in past Mosconi Cups towards European players like Souquet and whining because everybody else is lucky. It's no miracle the crowd doesn't like him very much. It's his very own fault and a pitty as he can be brilliant if he shuts up and keeps focusing on playing balls.

Earl has tried to raise the bar in pool. He gets frustrated at himself when he's not doing his best. He's tried to give pool a better image than a smokey pool hall or back-alley street fight, or that of a "hustler" image. He loves the game and has done much for the game and now people laugh and shout to him " want us to make the pockets bigger Earl?" It's just unreal to me how soon we all forget that this man has won the U.O open 5 or 6 times. He's a living legend. Where's the respect?

I watch the World Cup, I love soccer / football, yes. But, that's a bit more physical than mental. Pool/ billiards is a very mental "game" as well as physical. It's difficult to play "position" when people are "taunting" you. Even in small local weekly tournaments held here in the states...don't know where you are...one would be thrown out if they continued to disrupt a tournament player. I'd be unable to play. It's very rude. However, I do think Mika is a great player and I admire him.

As far as class goes, I don't see other sports i.e. golf, tennis, and so forth where people are allowed to heckle a living legend.

Even the best can have an "off" day. And even "Mika" had enough decency to acknowledge that Earl was/ is his idol from whom he learned to play pool by watching. On the contrary...Earl's tried to bring class to the game of pool.
