Good video... Yes, "science has a better understanding of the world" than religion. Good to see that young people like you are sorting out the truth from the hogwash (i.e., religion). Maybe there's hope for humanity yet! Keep up the good work.
@bibleprophecy1st Did you actually listen to what the girl said? Do you know what it means to PROVE something? A video of a talking head expressing opinions and asking questions does not constitute PROOF of anything, silly.
Ian Juby responds to AronRa's "8th Foundational falsehood of creationism"
He gives all the evidence and links that any honest person would ask for. The incredible fact is that "evolutionists" never read the articles. They quote a title and parrot someone else like AronRa that falsifies that information as Ian Juby proved.
@bibleprophecy1st What the hell are you talking about. She is responding to a video called "Debunking Aaron Ra" She in fact is in full agreement with Aaron Ra. This once again proves that your low IQ bullshit and absurd fairy tale god talk is a complete joke. Im sorry you were brainwshed and now you live a pointless life of insanity. This is why you are irrelevant to anyone that matters and you will continue to have an unimportant life!!!.
@littlefishgaming, typical right winger bullying a kid. Resorting to insults and broad generalizations when you have zip to say. How many people listen to you talk for more than say 30 seconds?
Little Fish person attacking a child that is trying to find answers and learn? Typical right wing screwball, bullying and name calling, let's see what you have that will keep people interested. Betcha not a thing....
"but when a child goes to hell...that's why I'm in this business"
this oddly brings me back to reading calvin and hobbes in my elementary years. I'm very pleased to hear a critical appraisal (although mildly vitriolic and oddly scripted-sounding) from someone in a younger generation. it occurs to me that I was terrified I was the last curious person ever born. Stupid me.
@littlefishgaming You need a firm thump on the dick for inferring so many things just based on how someone looks and what you assume their position is. That kind of thinking is better left to the theists. Your attitude towards this girl is sad and inexcuseable as you didn't even spend the time to hear what she was saying.
Other than that, I have no qualms with your behavior.
@YetAnotherInfidel actually I watched her entire video and concluded (based off of her inability to intellectually debate anything), that she is a mindless parrot
Then I owe you an apology, I guess I just assumed that you were attacking ad hom without giving credence to her actual ideas. Sorry :O. Then again, I don't even remeber what it was that she said so I don't even know whether or not she is valid in her ideas. I can see though by my past comment I was probobly just upset that you seemingly made these judgements based off of her appearance.
i agree i think people think she is saying god is real , but dont judge one until youve listened to the whole video. ive learned that a few times now . keep reading those kid
One so young has the presence of mind to ask big questions and think criticaly, while so many "adults" still believe in fairy tales. Keep thinking kid. I'm glad to know, YOU ARE THE FUTURE!
The "debunkers" are usually posting videos like "Dawkins got owned", "Evolution debunked" and then it turns out to be a hoax and a load of crap with rating and comments obviously and conveniently disabled. Pathetic cowards.
It's sad. You fall for the lies of the people who could care less about you. (You try to impress them with this video) But, they only want to feel comfortable with their sinful lifestyles and seek justifications to continue in them (because, deep down, they fear the possibility of a God who will hold them accountable.)
Here's what you do. Ask God to prove Himself to you. Then wait and see if He answers. It's written that He knows us and loves us. Ask Him, "Do you love me; know who I am?"
@DLmadison100 I've asked for evidence many times. I've gotten absolutely nothing in response: no evidence is forthcoming and no answer ever materializes. So, now that we have got wishful thinking and magic evidence out of the way, how about you provide some evidence for your claim.
@LordBizarre112233 Gave up on waiting for an answer from God? What were you looking for, thunder and lightning? How about asking him to send someone your way to tell you He loves you. Tried that one?
@DLmadison100 Thunder and lightning would be start, yes. Or for you to show me that prayer caused someone to regrow an amputated arm, or to cure a Down-syndrome baby, etc. etc. You are aware of what constitutes evidence and what doesn't, right? Christians parroting their theology at me is not evidence of god.
@LordBizarre112233 Many miracles were performed in Jesus' , and in Moses' time. Still, people would not believe. They were a stubborn and hard hearted people, whom God said would not enter into His rest. Please, do repent while you yet may be saved; tomorrow isn't promised to you.
But, Jesus said "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your heart.
@DLmadison100 Is this supposed to be persuasive to me? Some empty verses plus the threat that if I don't agree with you, your god will torture me for eternity? You've got a lot of nerve! You're the bastard who's been a "very dangerous criminal" but gee, because you hold a thought within your head of an invisible sky avenger, you get eternal bliss while us good nonbelievers get tortured for all time. What a monster your god is! If he WAS real I'd never worship him. Never!
@LordBizarre112233 I'm the person who WAS a very dangerous criminal, true. Are you angry with me because I went to prison and hated it while I was there for the time the judge sent me to do? Yet you get angry with God for wanting to eternally punish, while you yourself are just as unwilling to forgive? Hypocrite!
@realbojay Actually, You'd be about right in your assessment. The world exists, AND is a safer place for you sheep folks because of God's reality, AND power to transform this wretched sinners life. Yes. I was a very dangerous criminal. (Just ask my P.O.)
You'd likely not thank God, or give Him credit, but, nothing on this planet cold have changed me.
@djtripnosys Actually, You'd be about right in you assesment.
@djtripnosys There is no cause for being "good" in a world without God. I lived it. I know. Being "good" for goodness sake" Please, be real. What is good without a standard? Nothing but an empty promise.
@DLmadison100 Again, please continue to believe in god, people like you scare the hell out of me. I am good because it's the exaple I want to show my children, because it is the legacy I want to leave on this earth. Because I care about more than myself, and I don't need a dangling carrot to do so.
@djtripnosys You are not unique. Other than total sociopaths, everyone thinks of others too... Most would put family first. Robbing my neighbor, and helping a family member weren't different worlds for me. My point is that, without a fixed standard, we all write our own, and the lowest common denominator wins out. Eventually, unchecked, this nation will adopt Athenian Standards(Aprox.300 B.C.) where trolling for young sex partners and child prostitutes will be the norm. It gets worse from there.
@DLmadison100 And I stand as living proof that your claim "There is no cause for being 'good' in a world without God" is complete bullshit. I believe in no gods, and strive every day to be a decent, moral person, "Christ like" if you will. So what you should say is YOU FIND no cause for being "good" in a world without God. I find plenty, and with no god at all. Your lack of understanding only proves your own ignorance, nothing else.
@djtripnosys Your present moral disposition was informed by a strongly Christian influenced culture. Your argument is useless, for its basis on contemporary and "relative" ("Christ like") standards.
A society without an external standard progresses, social history shows, toward decline into corruptions both ethical and social. History doesn't lie. Western culture has thrived because of one book. It has a fixed standard that this Nation's morality was build on.
@William81Edge10 Yes, they know and use then because of careless adults whom they (foolishly) look up to.
The next generation learns from the ones that preceded it: What is it you would have them learn? All your faults and shortcomings? That you don't care about children, or their future, when you show so little regard for them? Change is always possible.
It is a good thing, when you can admit your mistakes and correct them, rather than making excuses for continuing in them.
Potty mouth, especially from a child is unbecoming no matter which side your on.
Joseph Stalin's regime was one of the most murderous regimes of the 20th century (20 million murdered) & he criminalized homosexuality. Mao Zedong had homosexuals castrated. What did they both have in common? They were both atheist state regimes. Many atheist in the eugenics movement in the thirties and forties thought that homosexuals should be sterilized. Many homosexuals are Christians. I happen to know many.
@benthemiester And I happen to know many who need to be discrete about their orientation and it's NOT because of atheists.
Also, Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong were atheists, sure, but with their utmost conviction that they know what's best for other people they were similar to religious fundamentalists. Also - if we start counting atrocities motivated by religion throughout ages, including christians slaugheting christians, I'm not sure even ten Stalins would "balance" the scale.
@MidnightTea7 This is a common mantra. Even when atheist commit atrocities and kill those who disagree just because they have a religious view - religion is still blamed. Talk about insult to injury. Wow. The point is, extremism comes in many different forms including atheism.
100 million+ people were killed during the 20th century alone during WW1 & WW2. These were secular wars based on Fascism, Communism, Nazism, Capitalism etc. and had nothing to do with the church or religious dogma.
@benthemiester I have hard time believing you know what you're saying, other than trying to convince yourself that it's not the other way around. I also have reasons to doubt your sources information especially ones considering homosexuality , ESPECIALLY with so many Christians today claiming that it's either sickness or depravity. I don't have time looking for sources (and I doubt you'll give me yours, but seeing what you write makes me quite sure that you make things up as you go.
@MidnightTea7 Hatred of gays has been mostly religiously motivated, as was a hatred for Jews, which has caused Hitler to hate them with immense passion. The fact that you want to accuse atheists for the crimes of the Nazi also shows me just how not interested in truth you are. And I live in a country with 1000 years of Christian traditions (good and bad) that was trampled both by Hitler and Stalin. I won't be claiming that religion is all bad, but I also can easily say you simply tell lies.
@MidnightTea7 Most critical historians agree that Hitlers public Catholic pandering & Christian rhetoric had more to do with Nazi propaganda than anything else. U will never find a picture of Hitler kneeling before an alter.
He also hated homosexuals, & his private statements and letters attest to the fact that he despised Christianity. I can cite these for you also if you wish. He never attempted to convert Jews. He believed in evolution & eugenics & that Jews were genetically inferior.
@benthemiester Critical historians? You mean, like Weikart, whose book was pwned by majority of scholars? And no, he didn't believe Jews are inferior, he thought ALL people are inferior, compared to Aryan race. However, he considered Jews as a major treat, due to centuries-old antisemitic sentiments - which were clearly formed and driven by Christian faith.
@MidnightTea7 I dont know who Wiekart is. It would be better if you actually read what I threaded instead of trying say things I never said. I also made a distinction between what he said in public and what he said in private.
@benthemiester I'm not used to Youtube commenting. What is it a reply to? And what is it about? You're showing me some obscure websites of a few atheist/agnostic/gay people being pro-life or against gay-marriage. What was that supposed to imply?
@MidnightTea7 You made a point about your country, yet you did not say what country you were from, even though I asked you twice. You said that Christians were against abortion. I cited these organizations to show you that there are also atheist who also appose abortion, are pro life, and even oppose gay marriage. I'm sorry your having trouble putting this together.
@benthemiester I didn't mention Poland? Sorry then, I overlooked it.
And no, Christians not WERE against abortions, the majority of them still IS. Also, not all Christians are against it and certainly not such minuscule amount of atheists/gays you mention you've mentioned. As I've said, I'm not arguing that religion is all bad, but overlooking religion's faults and focusing only on badness of everything else is a dead end.
@MidnightTea7 "As I've said, I'm not arguing that religion is all bad, but overlooking religion's faults and focusing only on badness of everything else is a dead end"
Fair enough then those are your thoughts. I have no problem with that. I never said that Christians were superior.
I merely pointed out to the little girl that extremism can also come in the form of atheism, and that historically & per capita it can be even more deadly. I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.
@benthemiester I did say, twice, that compared to all atrocities motivated by religion - even Christianity alone - you'd need far more than Stalin and Zedong. How's that hard to understand?
@MidnightTea7 "I did say, twice, that compared to all atrocities motivated by religion - even Christianity alone - you'd need far more than Stalin and Zedong. How's that hard to understand?"
I understand. What you dont seem to understand is the term (per capita) as in per capita state atheism has historically been much more oppressive and deadlier. Atheist have never voluntarily migrated to atheist states even in the past. Many come here to the US where they know they have freedom.
@benthemiester Atheists never voluntarily migrated to atheist states, because Russia wasn't a state you wanted to be! It was NEVER a state valuing anything a secular, non-believer would want and oppressed not only religions, but pretty much everything that didn't fit their vision of the world, including capitalism you earlier accused of being at least partially responsible for WW.
@MidnightTea7 "Atheists never voluntarily migrated to atheist states, because Russia wasn't a state you wanted to be! It was NEVER a state valuing anything a secular, non-believer would want and oppressed not only religions"
They advocated atheism, secular humanism and scientific naturalism. Are you against these constructs? If so, maybe your not really an atheist.
@benthemiester And my country apparently is secular, yet somehow not so much, lol. Communism - on paper - seemed as not such a bad idea. In practice, it was a horror that respected nothing but their own interests. There was no secular humanism there, unless for you it's "regime and terror". You're accusing me of not reading you properly and whatever, yet you keep doing that to my comments most of the time.
@benthemiester ALSO - ever wondered what would happen if e.g. Crusaders technology people had in 20th century???? The first tanks and first chemical warfare was introduced in WWI! Then and today one person can kill far more people, which was perfectly demonstrated by both muslim and christian extremists as of late, hence higher per capita!
@MidnightTea7 'which was perfectly demonstrated by both muslim and christian extremists as of late, hence higher per capita'
Either your math is wanting or you still dont understand the meaning of the term (per capita) Again only I was asked to provide evidence while you get make this stuff up as you go along.
@benthemiester Also, the strict bortion/anti-gay rights spring because Poland is, as I've mentioned, a Church state, which means that clergy mingles actively in politics. But not only that. The only abortion "option" in Poland is when fetus is underdeveloped or it/is an effect of rape/endangers life/health. Yet many doctors WON'T help women due to their religious beliefs.
@MidnightTea7 So it has to be something opposite to christianity and there was no other religion. Ergo = atheism to blame for WWI and WWII. What a joke.
What I find a joke is your reading comprehension, and accusations against things that I never said. Maybe there is a language barrier, but again you are adding in your own spin and accusing me of saying things I never did. Please read slowly and carefully. I told you I dont know who Wiekart is. Take it up with him. Are you an adult?
@benthemiester ? I think my English is decent enough to decipher what I mean. What I mean is that no matter if you read Weikart's book or not, the arguments you're using is similar of not the same as in his book and the book has been soundly criticized by scholars. The conclusion's simple.
@MidnightTea7 I totally agree he used religion and catholic pandering among other things like nationalism and racism to gain support. I said that from the beginning. It was called Nazi propaganda, and even you tried to use it in one of your threads. I have a feeling you are not actually reading what I have actually said and just skimming through. I have answered all your questions and you keep ignoring my one question.
@benthemiester Your initial comment was to counter the girl's comments with mentioning Stalin's and Zedong's atheist state regimes - both of which, I mentioned, bore resemblance to what religious fundamentalists (political religion) are trying to impose on us today and considerable amount of atheists oppose. Then, early on, you went about how WWI and II were 'secular wars' that had nothing to do with the Church and religious dogma, ignoring that many of it was clearly influenced by religion.
@MidnightTea7 "both of which, I mentioned, bore resemblance to what religious fundamentalists"
I already commented on that. If your not going to read my responses intelligently then what is the use in conversing with you?
Please dont make me continuo to repeat myself. I have already said that even when atheist commit atrocities- religion is still blamed. Religion doesn't mean Christianity. I am not pro political religion. You are assuming that I am.
@benthemiester Well if you can't understand the connection with a certain mindset that religions - which monopolize the 'absolute truth' - are unfortunately prone to generate the easiest (and they do!), then I can't write anything more about it.
@benthemiester And, as I said, to compare those atrocities to all those that were religiously motivated, you'd still need ten Stalins. And Christianity plays a major part in it, being a dominating religion of Western Civilization and mingling with politics for most of its 200 years of existence, often creating prejudices and enforcing their view on others.
@MidnightTea7 Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot killed more people in a few short years than all the religious wars of the last few centuries. Pol Pot killed more in one day than the Spanish inquisition did in 350 years.
I said that (per capita) atheist regimes have killed more, and this is a fact. How many European atheist voluntarily migrated to the former atheist state like the Soviet Union, or any other historical atheist state, or their territories? and I'm speaking long after Stalin's death?
@benthemiester We're talking not only religious wars but centuries-old persecution of everyone Christians thought is against them' including a lot of their own short since Christianity was established and including such blatantly religion-inspired genocides as Holocaust. And the atheist regimes you're talking about were all communist, all NON-secular and none of them is a threat anymore, compared to the threat of religious fundamentalism that pose a threat TODAY.
The holocaust still pales in comparison to Stalins death count, and while religious inspiration may be true since you include political religion. It was not inspired by Biblical teachings which considered the Jews Gods chosen people. This goes to show what happens when people follow men instead of following Gods word. As for the US, "We the people" made up of a Christian majority adopted a secular constitution giving rights to all, including atheist who migrate here annually.
@benthemiester Only you forget that Jews rejected Jesus as Gods son, which is why - for Christianity to divide itself from Judaic religion - began depicting Jews as enemies and continued to do so for practically two millennia... So why would you defend Christianity? As I understand now you defend the Bible, which in itself is a book with quite an inconsistent message, ridden with mis-translations and innumerable amount of interpretations.
@MidnightTea7 'most of those atheist states are now church states, with religion sticking its fingers to government all the time'
Why is it that I am the only one required to provide sources and citations yet you offer no evidence? Please name these former atheist states that are now Church states.
@benthemiester *sigh* From Poland to Russia, a majority of them had turned to Church right after commies fell and even before that - and no wonder. E.g. Poles and Russians have a very deep emotional bond with their flavor of Christianity - Russians embody Orthodox Church with "Mother Russia" and no commie, even Stalin, managed to change that. And Poles consider Mary a Queen of Poland (a half-official title for 300 years). Add to that a Polish Pope - a perfect political move by Catholic Church.
@benthemiester And if you're not satisfied with 'just' Poland (arguably the most modern/westernized country that is currently somewhat a representative of Eastern Europe) we have Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and so on. Most of them deeply religious, most of them with apparent freedom of religion and most of them blatantly favoring one particular religion, so much that often it clashes with minority or doesn't really protect the rights of their citizens (e.g. ECHR case of Alicja Tysiac)
@benthemiester And yes, America has a great constitution, but wasn't actually the first open, tolerant country. Before we became a homogeneous, almost purely Catholic state we were actually a prosperous country full of different ethnicities and religions, achieved mainly because of secularism, established on Warsaw Confederation - an event that happened 200 years before American Constitution (also, we had first European constitution of that kind, written in 1791)
@benthemiester Also - what will happen with this constitution and America, when people would allow guys like Rick Perry - the guy who prays for what can be only described as manna from heaven and openly forces one particular religion? And Bush in the past? Holy cow.
Your a hypocrite. You claim you want to freedom of expression, but yet you imply Rick Perry (who ever he is) shouldn't have the same freedom of speech. I can answer your question very easily. We have been allowing freedom of speech for 200 years. Bush is an idiot & a politician. It wasn't religion that put him in office. It was money and international oilmen that did. You know little about American politics. Rick Perry has no authority to force anything on anyone.
@benthemiester Jesus Christ... if you haven't heard about the infamous governor of Texas (for 10 years now), then no wonder you're ignorant enough to call me a hypocrite. It appears that I have far more knowledge about American politics than you do - and I have reason to be, being also an American citizen. I live in Poland, but I was born there, I have family there AND U.S.A has a very huge impact on much that happens in Poland and, in fact, entire world!
@benthemiester There's a huge difference between "believing what you want" and "forcing your views or moral laws on others through law and government structures". If you cannot distinguish between one and another, then there's no wonder you're so wary of atheists.
And Stalin didn't care about Christians or whomever else, as long as they obeyed him. He got to power due to Russia's long, imperialistic history, but I assume you know little about it, nor really care about its complexity.
@benthemiester How can I even name a time in history where atheists have been slaughtered in large number, when at most time people were afraid to admit that they were atheists or "heretics"!? Many people have issues to announce it publicly till today, even in America!
@benthemiester Also - Stalin was a paranoid maniac and grew so paranoid, that he began executing everyone, including his previously most trusted friends. Everyone, who he envisioned as his enemy and this is also why he saw religions as a threat - and no wonder. As I've said, religion was here for 100 years, both in good and bad way, and the good was was that Catholic Church did give people the boost to overthrow commies. Thing is, that after we won and gave them a finger, they took a hand.
Atheism is as old as theism and today atheist still only represent 3% of the worlds population. There are still places in the world where state sponsored religious persecution still exist, but atheist dont have to worry about being arrested for there non belief in any Christian populated country, including those who have a state church. Do you think the same respect & freedom would be given to Christians if they only represented 3% percent of the worlds population?
@benthemiester You're talking about the world where religion was practically always present and since it's pretty much 'sucked with mother's milk' - so is there really any wonder it's so prevalent? Astrology is a few thousands years old and even though it's been proven beyond doubt that it has practically no resemblance to what's happening on the sky, yet it still stays largely popular.
@MidnightTea7 "Astrology is a few thousands years old and even though it's been proven beyond doubt that it has practically no resemblance to what's happening on the sky, yet it still stays largely popular"
That maybe so, but not among Christians. In fact most New Age believers are atheist, and not just astrology but crystal balls, psychic healing, astro projection, people who believe in ET's as well as Wiccan's etc. Furthermore astrology can not be falsified because it isn't a science.
@benthemiester True. Yet both astrology, psychic healing AND religions aren't separated from mundane world. Often they claim history, phenomenons or whatever else to be something different than they actually are and not only that - they base entire dogmas on it and don't want to hear that the truth might be not what they wish it to be.
Btw. Wicca is a religion and astrology is connected with Bible itself, since astrology has been considered true in biblical times.
@MidnightTea7 Yes this is my point. Atheist can be just as religious as anyone else, and you can try to associate astrology with the bible, but you are incorrect. The bible explicitly warns against seers and the likes.
I just sent you an article. Please tell me what you think.
@benthemiester I'll look at it in a moment. Also, I don't really mean pieces of the Bible which warn about seers, but the mythology stuff on which life of many biblical figures - like Jesus - is built on. It not only comes from astrology, but also ancient pagan beliefs of the region of Mesopotamia, plus Egyptian religion (which is heavily based on astronomy and astrology). Which is really quite ironic...
@MidnightTea7 I'll look at it in a moment. Also, I don't really mean pieces of the Bible which warn about seers, but the mythology stuff on which life of many biblical figures - like Jesus - is built on. It not only comes from astrology, etc
I have no idea what you are talking concerning astrology. As for the other stuff, that is a stretch indeed. I have heard so many people try to associate these beliefs with the Bible and all have failed.
@benthemiester Also, you're an atheist in relation to other religions. I assume you don't believe in the existence of Greek gods or egyptian Ra? So that percent is larger, if you take that in consideration. In fact, first Christians were called atheists in Rome, due to their rejection of gods worshiped by Romans. Ironically it was the empire that fought it, to then adapted it and spread it on the entire Western civilization.
@MidnightTea7 "Also, you're an atheist in relation to other religions"
Your using an antiquated definition. The modern definition is the atheism |ˈāθēˌizəm|
noun
the theory or belief that God does not exist. I am not an atheist, and I dont know if Zues or Apollo existed. They could have been the nephilim for all I know. I dont claim to be all knowing.
@benthemiester Yet you doubt that they were gods, as claimed in myths and beliefs of Greeks, which puts you in atheist position in relation to them. The definition of atheist is fluid (so is agnostic - I can be described quite easily as an agnostic atheist), although it's true that most atheists today claim that no supernatural beings or forces exist, therefore they stand in high contrast, if compared to many New Age folks.
That is not the definition of atheism. I'm not sure what your point is. 'It either encouraged or oppressed science and it oppressed it mostly when it gained to too much political power"
Maybe you didn't read my thread. Ill say it again. Christian theologians ushered in the modern sciences and most of the early scientist were devout Christians. How could they be against something that they encouraged. Where is you evidence & logic?
@benthemiester Now - I in no way claim that threat comes from religion per se, just it's not like all the goodness comes from rejecting religion. The threat comes when religions gain significant political power, things go awry quite often, and for obvious reasons - most, if not all, religions claim to hold absolute power and absolute knowledge, which we know is untrue; especially due to last two centuries, so dominated by scientific discoveries.
@benthemiester And no, it's not the arrest that is threating atheists in most Christian countries, but ostracism, which in many cases is quite painful - especially when you pair it with silly accusations that atheism is evil, immoral and so on. They become a favorite target to accuse of most of evils of the world, as if a simple disapproval and criticism of one of many holy books is somehow going to bring 10 Egyptian Plagues on our heads.
@MidnightTea7 "most, if not all, religions claim to hold absolute power and absolute knowledge, which we know is untrue; especially due to last two centuries, etc"
Faith and metaphysics are also non falsifiable because they are not science. God can no more be disproved than he can be proved. Its interesting that you mention science. It was actually Christian theologians that founded the Universities that taught & ushered in the modern sciences & discovered many basic natural laws.
@benthemiester That is correct. And Dark Ages weren't in fact as dark as it is often claimed. Still, with Christianity its like taking one step and then often going two steps backward. It either encouraged or oppressed science and it oppressed it mostly when it gained to too much political power. It's currently visible in many Muslim countries, who in earlier centuries have contributed greatly to expansion of knowledge.
@MidnightTea7 "And no, it's not the arrest that is threating atheists in most Christian countries, but ostracism, which in many cases is quite painful - especially when you pair it with silly accusations that atheism is evil, immoral and so on"
Well then videos like the one above don't seem to be helping the atheist cause much.
Ill tell you what, show me some evidence that atheist are persecuted or discriminated in Poland. I promise I will consider your claim. Send it to my message box.
@benthemiester As is rebutting it with the mentioning of communistic regimes of the past, while - as I've said - most people who persecute homosexuals today, are against abortion or don't want equal rights for women are predominantly coming from conservative, religious backgrounds.
@MidnightTea7 "most people who persecute homosexuals today, are against abortion or don't want equal rights for women are predominantly coming from conservative, religious backgrounds"
Who is persecuting homosexuals or women? If you cant provide evidence then that says a lot.
@benthemiester And I'll find you evidence - if I find it in English that's on thhe Internet and not newspaper and something that can be sufficiently translated by google translate. But I can already tell you that most is especially ugly when non-christian children (or they have non-religious parents) are forced to sit through compulsory religion classes and often ridiculed or called all kinds of things, which is simply heinous.
@benthemiester There are of course some ethics classes sometimes offered as an alternative and on rare occasions they get permission to skip religion classes - for choosing both options they're ostracized, often by children encouraged by priests or other religious people.
No I am not from Texas. Do you know the name of every politician in your country? As I said before, you have the right to believe what ever you want even if your a governor. If you are an American citizen and yet choose to live in a country that you are not happy with, then again, dont blame others.
@benthemiester I actually know quite a lot of them and I certainly know prominent figures and Perry IS a prominent figure.
And you have the right to believe in whatever you want, but AS a worker of secular government you serve not only you and your friends - you serve the people. All of them!
Also - I actually prefer to live in Poland, due to what's happening in America. We're sensible enough folks and we won't tolerate the leash of Church for long.
@benthemiester And wait, what? There was no migration, most of those atheist states are now church states, with religion sticking its fingers to government all the time. Hence strong anti-gay and anti-abortion law and Church being given power + huge amounts of land. There are compulsory religion classes to up to high school and there are crosses in almost every public building or school. That'll hopefully end soon enough.
@benthemiester What Stalin and Zedong did, was, as I've said - atrocious and no one denies that. Homosexuals suffered not only from hands of Christianity and as I've said twice already, religion as a whole isn't bad in itself. But there's no atheist regime now and majority of people who oppose egalitarianism and secularism are who? Christians (in western countries). Hence the opposition.
@MidnightTea7 " While raised by a skeptic father and a Catholic mother, after childhood, he ceased to participate in the Sacraments completely. He sometimes made public statements which seemed to affirm religion (which suited his political purposes) and prior to 1940 had promoted a "positive Christianity", purged of Judaism and instilled with Nazi philosophy, but in private was hostile to Christianity and had a plan to destroy it after the war" Wikipedia and sourced.
@benthemiester "(...)although he had rejected the Church, he drew on these elements, organizing his party along hierarchical lines and including liturgical forms into events or using phraseology taken from hymns.[78] Because of these liturgical elements, Hitler's Messiah-like status and the ideology's all-encompassing nature, the Nazi movement, like communism is sometimes termed a "political religion" Also wiki, also sourced.
@MidnightTea7 I agree with your citation he had rejected the church, and yes some people will make use the term a political religion. Yes this is my point. I'm glad we can agree, at least on this point.
@benthemiester *facepalm* Whatever you might say about his private life, publicly he embraced it so much, that he envisioned himself a person on God's mission. Christian God, I'd like to add. The fact that he rejected one church/denomination doesn't make him a person not influenced by Christian religion and there's hardly any disagreement between historians that his anti-semitism was definitely influenced by Viennese equivalent of right-wing fundamentalism in US.
@benthemiester Also - I wonder what exactly you'd try to quote, as Hitler's Mein Kampf clearly indicates that he WAS, beyond any doubt, Christian (you should definitely read what he thought of Jesus) and that his views, and his anti-semitism, were largely influenced by Christian Social Party. In fact, he lamented that the seat of Catholic Church should be in Germany.
Also, no, beyond any doubt Hitler didn't not believe in evolution and certainly not as a scientific theory. What Nazi actually did was vulgarizing the philosophy of Nietzsche and neither NIetsche, nor Darwin ever said anything about supremacy or goodnes/evilness of a particular group of people, the way Christian religion did about believers/non-believers and - of course - Jews.
@MidnightTea7 cont.... Both are inventions of the Jew. The deliberate lie in the matter of religion was introduced into the world by Christianity.... • "Let it not be said that Christianity brought man the life of the soul, for that evolution was in the natural order of things." (p 6 & 7)
@MidnightTea7 Night of 11th-12th July, 1941 • "National Socialism and religion cannot exist together.... • "The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity's illegitimate child.
@benthemiester LOL, can't you really see the irony of quoting this??? Also, where do these quotes come from? I don't mean letters, but the quoted letters. Most I can find is on places people are trying to convince themselves, that Hitlers private vies collided with his insane, megalomaniac vision of Germany, which was a clear extension of himself, rather than a way to fool people..
@MidnightTea7 "Most I can find is on places people are trying to convince themselves, that Hitlers private vies collided with his insane, megalomaniac vision of Germany, which was a clear extension of himself etc...
Im not sure what your statement means, but I'm sure it makes sense to you. My point was that Hitler despised Christianity. I have answered all your questions. If you want to research the subject more then I encourage you to do so. I cant comment on your country since you wont say.
@benthemiester Sorry, I was in a rush. What I meant is that most of Hitler's actions and verified private statement contrast so much with quoted letters that they'd suggest that he has schizophrenia or double personality. Hitler was a megalomaniac with messianic syndrome, but neither schizophreniac or else. Also - I've checked the source, apparently from "Hitler's Table Talk" and wiki has some interesting things to say about it.
@MidnightTea7 "Sorry, I was in a rush. What I meant is that most of Hitler's actions and verified private statement contrast so much with quoted letters that they'd suggest that he has schizophrenia or double personality" Fair enough please cite your evidence or sources. Or are you just making this up & giving your own Psychoanalysis? Maybe the simpler answer is that he was politician. Have you ever heard of Ocams Razor?
@MidnightTea7 The reason why you didn't quote Wiki, is because being a European, you know as well as I do that people have been translating German, French & English for centuries. These languages are not that far apart from each other, & for anyone to say that his true meaning was lost in the translation is absurd, especially when these letters were consistently saying the same thing. You yourself quoted the fact that he rejected the church. You still refuse to answer a simple question.
@MidnightTea7 10th October, 1941, midday • "Christianity is a rebellion against natural law, a protest against nature. Taken to its logical extreme, Christianity would mean the systematic cultivation of the human failure." (p 43)
@benthemiester Also - I wonder if you don't see another irony. No matter what Hitler private views were (and judging from his actions and private remarks from reliable sources, this doesn't seem as likely as you want it to be) he bound the whole nation to his will by... what, eh? Using religion to gain support.
@MidnightTea7 cont.... • "Christianity has reached the peak of absurdity.... And that's why someday its structure will collapse.... • "...the only way to get rid of Christianity is to allow it to die little by little.... • "Christianity is the liar.... • "We'll see to it that the Churches cannot spread abroad teachings in conflict with the interests of the State." (p 49-52)
@MidnightTea7 14th October, 1941, midday • "The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death.... When understanding of the universe has become widespread... Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity...
@MidnightTea7 19th October, 1941, night • "The reason why the ancient world was so pure, light and serene was that it knew nothing of the two great scourges: the pox and Christianity."
13th December, 1941, midnight • "Christianity is an invention of sick brains: one could imagine nothing more senseless, nor any more indecent way of turning the idea of the Godhead into a mockery.... <here insults people who believe transubstantiation.... • "When all is said, we have no reason to wish that the Italians and Spaniards should free themselves from the drug of Christianity. Let's be the only people who are immunised against the disease." (p 118-119)
@MidnightTea7 cont..... The law was condemned by several communists operating in Britain. The law remained intact until after the dissolution of the Soviet Union; it was repealed in 1993 Wikipedia and sourced ^ Russia: Update to RUS13194 of 16 February 1993 on the treatment of homosexuals
@MidnightTea7 In the 1930s under Joseph Stalin, male homosexuality, abortion and divorce were recriminalised in the nation. Article 121 explicitly criminalised male same-sex intercourse and with five years of hard prison labor as a penalty.......
@benthemiester Sure he did. In fact, such were the laws force on my country. But since '89 we're a free nation. And a Church state. My country is 90-95% Christian and we have the most stringent abortion laws in Europe. In fact, there were attempts to criminalize it. By who you might ask? Well, certainly NOT by atheists. Same goes for gay rights.
@MidnightTea7 Likewise, the Chinese government did treat homosexuality as a disease and subjected gay men to electric shock therapy and other attempts to change their sexual orientation ["China Using Electrodes To 'Cure' Homosexuals", New York Times, January 29, 1990]
Mao Zedong believed in the sexual castration of "sexual deviants" (Randy Shilts. "Conduct Unbecoming")
@benthemiester And I'm not arguing against it. What they did is horrid and I'm quite sure you'll have a hard time finding many secular, atheist people praising him. Same with eugenics in 30-40, that is now largely condemned. Also, why is it that you're giving an example from 1930-40 and not present, when people opposing gay rights or abortion in Western countries are predominantly Christian???
With that said, let's play Bible Quote! Mat. 7:3–5!
@MidnightTea7 "The fact that you want to accuse atheists for the crimes of the Nazi also shows me just how not interested in truth you are"
Joseph Stalin was and atheist and Stalins Russia had adopted state atheism. He killed and persecuted millions of Christians. He was not a Nazi. So I dont even know what your point is.
@benthemiester "These were secular wars based on Fascism, Communism, Nazism, Capitalism etc and had nothing to do with the church or religious dogma.."
The message's quite clear - 'Christianity's immaculate and couldn't possibly have contributed to the atrocities of any kind'. So it has to be something opposite to christianity and there was no other religion. Ergo = atheism to blame for WWI and WWII. What a joke. Only someone completely ignorant of history can claim that.
@benthemiester They were both from the Eastern hemisphere, and they were both government leaders....guess that means any leader in the Eastern hemisphere will create a murderous regime...*eyeroll*
Correlation is not causation. And don't even get me started on the atrocities committed IN THE NAME of Christ. Name me ONE atrocity committed IN THE NAME of atheism, and not just by people who were, or could have been atheists. Christians have done evil, doesn't mean ALL Christians are evil, right?
Wow ! A young person who asks questions and is making an effort to think logically ... what a refreshing change from the usual dogmatic nonsense on so many videos. Keep it up Amber !
Um, despite some of the atheists who think that you're debunking Aronra, (which btw this is a response to someone who was talking ish about Aron), she's trying to defend these atheists, not attack them. I applaud her attempt into critical thinking, though it's hard to tell what she's saying sometimes, she does have a good message. I see an intelligent atheist in the making, just listen to what she says and don't rely on preconceptions.
It's heartening to see such a young person champion the cause of honest inquiry. I just hope the moronic responses in this comment section don't unduly intimidate

AronRa is a liar as this video proves.

DLmadison100 5 months ago
@DLmadison100 I've asked for evidence many times. I've gotten absolutely nothing in response: no evidence is forthcoming and no answer ever materializes. So, now that we have got wishful thinking and magic evidence out of the way, how about you provide some evidence for your claim.
LordBizarre112233 5 months ago

@DLmadison100 Thunder and lightning would be start, yes. Or for you to show me that prayer caused someone to regrow an amputated arm, or to cure a Down-syndrome baby, etc. etc. You are aware of what constitutes evidence and what doesn't, right? Christians parroting their theology at me is not evidence of god.
LordBizarre112233 5 months ago
@LordBizarre112233 Many miracles were performed in Jesus' , and in Moses' time. Still, people would not believe. They were a stubborn and hard hearted people, whom God said would not enter into His rest. Please, do repent while you yet may be saved; tomorrow isn't promised to you.
But, Jesus said "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

@djtripnosys There is no cause for being "good" in a world without God. I lived it. I know. Being "good" for goodness sake" Please, be real. What is good without a standard? Nothing but an empty promise.

djtripnosys 5 months ago
@djtripnosys You are not unique. Other than total sociopaths, everyone thinks of others too... Most would put family first. Robbing my neighbor, and helping a family member weren't different worlds for me. My point is that, without a fixed standard, we all write our own, and the lowest common denominator wins out. Eventually, unchecked, this nation will adopt Athenian Standards(Aprox.300 B.C.) where trolling for young sex partners and child prostitutes will be the norm. It gets worse from there.
DLmadison100 5 months ago
@DLmadison100 And I stand as living proof that your claim "There is no cause for being 'good' in a world without God" is complete bullshit. I believe in no gods, and strive every day to be a decent, moral person, "Christ like" if you will. So what you should say is YOU FIND no cause for being "good" in a world without God. I find plenty, and with no god at all. Your lack of understanding only proves your own ignorance, nothing else.
djtripnosys 5 months ago
@djtripnosys Your present moral disposition was informed by a strongly Christian influenced culture. Your argument is useless, for its basis on contemporary and "relative" ("Christ like") standards.
A society without an external standard progresses, social history shows, toward decline into corruptions both ethical and social. History doesn't lie. Western culture has thrived because of one book. It has a fixed standard that this Nation's morality was build on.
No God, no book, no fixed standard.

DLmadison100 4 months ago
Potty mouth, especially from a child is unbecoming no matter which side your on.
Joseph Stalin's regime was one of the most murderous regimes of the 20th century (20 million murdered) & he criminalized homosexuality. Mao Zedong had homosexuals castrated. What did they both have in common? They were both atheist state regimes. Many atheist in the eugenics movement in the thirties and forties thought that homosexuals should be sterilized. Many homosexuals are Christians. I happen to know many.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester And I happen to know many who need to be discrete about their orientation and it's NOT because of atheists.
Also, Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong were atheists, sure, but with their utmost conviction that they know what's best for other people they were similar to religious fundamentalists. Also - if we start counting atrocities motivated by religion throughout ages, including christians slaugheting christians, I'm not sure even ten Stalins would "balance" the scale.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 This is a common mantra. Even when atheist commit atrocities and kill those who disagree just because they have a religious view - religion is still blamed. Talk about insult to injury. Wow. The point is, extremism comes in many different forms including atheism.
100 million+ people were killed during the 20th century alone during WW1 & WW2. These were secular wars based on Fascism, Communism, Nazism, Capitalism etc. and had nothing to do with the church or religious dogma.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester I have hard time believing you know what you're saying, other than trying to convince yourself that it's not the other way around. I also have reasons to doubt your sources information especially ones considering homosexuality , ESPECIALLY with so many Christians today claiming that it's either sickness or depravity. I don't have time looking for sources (and I doubt you'll give me yours, but seeing what you write makes me quite sure that you make things up as you go.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 Hatred of gays has been mostly religiously motivated, as was a hatred for Jews, which has caused Hitler to hate them with immense passion. The fact that you want to accuse atheists for the crimes of the Nazi also shows me just how not interested in truth you are. And I live in a country with 1000 years of Christian traditions (good and bad) that was trampled both by Hitler and Stalin. I won't be claiming that religion is all bad, but I also can easily say you simply tell lies.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 Most critical historians agree that Hitlers public Catholic pandering & Christian rhetoric had more to do with Nazi propaganda than anything else. U will never find a picture of Hitler kneeling before an alter.
He also hated homosexuals, & his private statements and letters attest to the fact that he despised Christianity. I can cite these for you also if you wish. He never attempted to convert Jews. He believed in evolution & eugenics & that Jews were genetically inferior.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Critical historians? You mean, like Weikart, whose book was pwned by majority of scholars? And no, he didn't believe Jews are inferior, he thought ALL people are inferior, compared to Aryan race. However, he considered Jews as a major treat, due to centuries-old antisemitic sentiments - which were clearly formed and driven by Christian faith.

And no, Christians not WERE against abortions, the majority of them still IS. Also, not all Christians are against it and certainly not such minuscule amount of atheists/gays you mention you've mentioned.
I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.
benthemiester 5 months ago

Many come here to the US where they know they have freedom.
benthemiester 5 months ago

If so, maybe your not really an atheist.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester And my country apparently is secular, yet somehow not so much, lol. Communism - on paper - seemed as not such a bad idea. MidnightTea7 5 months ago

benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Also, the strict bortion/anti-gay rights spring because Poland is, as I've mentioned, a Church state, which means that clergy mingles actively in politics. But not only that. The only abortion "option" in Poland is when fetus is underdeveloped or it/is an effect of rape/endangers life/health. Yet many doctors WON'T help women due to their religious beliefs.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 So it has to be something opposite to christianity and there was no other religion. Ergo = atheism to blame for WWI and WWII. What a joke.

Maybe there is a language barrier, but again you are adding in your own spin and accusing me of saying things I never did. Please read slowly and carefully. I told you I dont know who Wiekart is. Take it up with him. Are you an adult?
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester ? I think my English is decent enough to decipher what I mean. What I mean is that no matter if you read Weikart's book or not, the arguments you're using is similar of not the same as in his book and the book has been soundly criticized by scholars. The conclusion's simple.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 I totally agree he used religion and catholic pandering among other things like nationalism and racism to gain support. I said that from the beginning. It was called Nazi propaganda, and even you tried to use it in one of your threads. I have a feeling you are not actually reading what I have actually said and just skimming through. I have answered all your questions and you keep ignoring my one question.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Which question is it? As I've said, I'm not used to youtube commenting and this one might have got lost.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester Your initial comment was to counter the girl's comments with mentioning Stalin's and Zedong's atheist state regimes - both of which, I mentioned, bore resemblance to what religious fundamentalists (political religion) are trying to impose on us today and considerable amount of atheists oppose. Then, early on, you went about how WWI and II were 'secular wars' that had nothing to do with the Church and religious dogma, ignoring that many of it was clearly influenced by religion.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "both of which, I mentioned, bore resemblance to what religious fundamentalists"
I already commented on that. If your not going to read my responses intelligently then what is the use in conversing with you?
Please dont make me continuo to repeat myself. I have already said that even when atheist commit atrocities- religion is still blamed. Religion doesn't mean Christianity. I am not pro political religion. You are assuming that I am.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Well if you can't understand the connection with a certain mindset that religions - which monopolize the 'absolute truth' - are unfortunately prone to generate the easiest (and they do!), then I can't write anything more about it.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester And, as I said, to compare those atrocities to all those that were religiously motivated, you'd still need ten Stalins. And Christianity plays a major part in it, being a dominating religion of Western Civilization and mingling with politics for most of its 200 years of existence, often creating prejudices and enforcing their view on others.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot killed more people in a few short years than all the religious wars of the last few centuries. Pol Pot killed more in one day than the Spanish inquisition did in 350 years.
I said that (per capita) atheist regimes have killed more, and this is a fact. How many European atheist voluntarily migrated to the former atheist state like the Soviet Union, or any other historical atheist state, or their territories? and I'm speaking long after Stalin's death?
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester We're talking not only religious wars but centuries-old persecution of everyone Christians thought is against them' including a lot of their own short since Christianity was established and including such blatantly religion-inspired genocides as Holocaust. And the atheist regimes you're talking about were all communist, all NON-secular and none of them is a threat anymore, compared to the threat of religious fundamentalism that pose a threat TODAY.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7
The holocaust still pales in comparison to Stalins death count, and while religious inspiration may be true since you include political religion. It was not inspired by Biblical teachings which considered the Jews Gods chosen people. This goes to show what happens when people follow men instead of following Gods word. As for the US, "We the people" made up of a Christian majority adopted a secular constitution giving rights to all, including atheist who migrate here annually.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Only you forget that Jews rejected Jesus as Gods son, which is why - for Christianity to divide itself from Judaic religion - began depicting Jews as enemies and continued to do so for practically two millennia... So why would you defend Christianity? As I understand now you defend the Bible, which in itself is a book with quite an inconsistent message, ridden with mis-translations and innumerable amount of interpretations.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 'most of those atheist states are now church states, with religion sticking its fingers to government all the time'
Why is it that I am the only one required to provide sources and citations yet you offer no evidence? Please name these former atheist states that are now Church states.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester *sigh* From Poland to Russia, a majority of them had turned to Church right after commies fell and even before that - and no wonder. E.g. Poles and Russians have a very deep emotional bond with their flavor of Christianity - Russians embody Orthodox Church with "Mother Russia" and no commie, even Stalin, managed to change that. And Poles consider Mary a Queen of Poland (a half-official title for 300 years). Add to that a Polish Pope - a perfect political move by Catholic Church.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester And if you're not satisfied with 'just' Poland (arguably the most modern/westernized country that is currently somewhat a representative of Eastern Europe) we have Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and so on. Most of them deeply religious, most of them with apparent freedom of religion and most of them blatantly favoring one particular religion, so much that often it clashes with minority or doesn't really protect the rights of their citizens (e.g. ECHR case of Alicja Tysiac)
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester And yes, America has a great constitution, but wasn't actually the first open, tolerant country. Before we became a homogeneous, almost purely Catholic state we were actually a prosperous country full of different ethnicities and religions, achieved mainly because of secularism, established on Warsaw Confederation - an event that happened 200 years before American Constitution (also, we had first European constitution of that kind, written in 1791)
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester Also - what will happen with this constitution and America, when people would allow guys like Rick Perry - the guy who prays for what can be only described as manna from heaven and openly forces one particular religion? And Bush in the past? Holy cow.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7
Rick Perry has no authority to force anything on anyone.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Jesus Christ... if you haven't heard about the infamous governor of Texas (for 10 years now), then no wonder you're ignorant enough to call me a hypocrite. It appears that I have far more knowledge about American politics than you do - and I have reason to be, being also an American citizen. I live in Poland, but I was born there, I have family there AND U.S.A has a very huge impact on much that happens in Poland and, in fact, entire world!
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 People have the right to believe what ever they want whether in Romania or anywhere else.
Atheist are not being oppressed. If Stalin had been in control, Christians would have been executed.
You cannot name one time in history that atheist have ever been slaughtered in even a fraction of the numbers I cited.
If you can then please do.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester There's a huge difference between "believing what you want" and "forcing your views or moral laws on others through law and government structures". If you cannot distinguish between one and another, then there's no wonder you're so wary of atheists.
And Stalin didn't care about Christians or whomever else, as long as they obeyed him. He got to power due to Russia's long, imperialistic history, but I assume you know little about it, nor really care about its complexity.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester How can I even name a time in history where atheists have been slaughtered in large number, when at most time people were afraid to admit that they were atheists or "heretics"!? Many people have issues to announce it publicly till today, even in America!
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester Also - Stalin was a paranoid maniac and grew so paranoid, that he began executing everyone, including his previously most trusted friends. Everyone, who he envisioned as his enemy and this is also why he saw religions as a threat - and no wonder. As I've said, religion was here for 100 years, both in good and bad way, and the good was was that Catholic Church did give people the boost to overthrow commies. Thing is, that after we won and gave them a finger, they took a hand.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7
Atheism is as old as theism and today atheist still only represent 3% of the worlds population. There are still places in the world where state sponsored religious persecution still exist, but atheist dont have to worry about being arrested for there non belief in any Christian populated country, including those who have a state church. Do you think the same respect & freedom would be given to Christians if they only represented 3% percent of the worlds population?
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester You're talking about the world where religion was practically always present and since it's pretty much 'sucked with mother's milk' - so is there really any wonder it's so prevalent? Astrology is a few thousands years old and even though it's been proven beyond doubt that it has practically no resemblance to what's happening on the sky, yet it still stays largely popular.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "Astrology is a few thousands years old and even though it's been proven beyond doubt that it has practically no resemblance to what's happening on the sky, yet it still stays largely popular"
That maybe so, but not among Christians. In fact most New Age believers are atheist, and not just astrology but crystal balls, psychic healing, astro projection, people who believe in ET's as well as Wiccan's etc. Furthermore astrology can not be falsified because it isn't a science.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester True. Yet both astrology, psychic healing AND religions aren't separated from mundane world. Often they claim history, phenomenons or whatever else to be something different than they actually are and not only that - they base entire dogmas on it and don't want to hear that the truth might be not what they wish it to be.
Btw. Wicca is a religion and astrology is connected with Bible itself, since astrology has been considered true in biblical times.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 Yes this is my point. Atheist can be just as religious as anyone else, and you can try to associate astrology with the bible, but you are incorrect. The bible explicitly warns against seers and the likes.
I just sent you an article. Please tell me what you think.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester I'll look at it in a moment. Also, I don't really mean pieces of the Bible which warn about seers, but the mythology stuff on which life of many biblical figures - like Jesus - is built on. It not only comes from astrology, but also ancient pagan beliefs of the region of Mesopotamia, plus Egyptian religion (which is heavily based on astronomy and astrology). Which is really quite ironic...
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 I'll look at it in a moment. Also, I don't really mean pieces of the Bible which warn about seers, but the mythology stuff on which life of many biblical figures - like Jesus - is built on. It not only comes from astrology, etc
I have no idea what you are talking concerning astrology. As for the other stuff, that is a stretch indeed. I have heard so many people try to associate these beliefs with the Bible and all have failed.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 So now I ask you, please tell me what you think of that article I sent.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Also, you're an atheist in relation to other religions. I assume you don't believe in the existence of Greek gods or egyptian Ra? So that percent is larger, if you take that in consideration. In fact, first Christians were called atheists in Rome, due to their rejection of gods worshiped by Romans. Ironically it was the empire that fought it, to then adapted it and spread it on the entire Western civilization.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "Also, you're an atheist in relation to other religions"
Your using an antiquated definition. The modern definition is the atheism |ˈāθēˌizəm|
noun
the theory or belief that God does not exist. I am not an atheist, and I dont know if Zues or Apollo existed. They could have been the nephilim for all I know. I dont claim to be all knowing.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Yet you doubt that they were gods, as claimed in myths and beliefs of Greeks, which puts you in atheist position in relation to them. The definition of atheist is fluid (so is agnostic - I can be described quite easily as an agnostic atheist), although it's true that most atheists today claim that no supernatural beings or forces exist, therefore they stand in high contrast, if compared to many New Age folks.
And 'the nephilim'? ...The pre-flood fallen? :\
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "Yet you doubt that they were gods,"
That is not the definition of atheism. I'm not sure what your point is. 'It either encouraged or oppressed science and it oppressed it mostly when it gained to too much political power"
Maybe you didn't read my thread. Ill say it again. Christian theologians ushered in the modern sciences and most of the early scientist were devout Christians. How could they be against something that they encouraged. Where is you evidence & logic?
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester Now - I in no way claim that threat comes from religion per se, just it's not like all the goodness comes from rejecting religion. The threat comes when religions gain significant political power, things go awry quite often, and for obvious reasons - most, if not all, religions claim to hold absolute power and absolute knowledge, which we know is untrue; especially due to last two centuries, so dominated by scientific discoveries.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester And no, it's not the arrest that is threating atheists in most Christian countries, but ostracism, which in many cases is quite painful - especially when you pair it with silly accusations that atheism is evil, immoral and so on. They become a favorite target to accuse of most of evils of the world, as if a simple disapproval and criticism of one of many holy books is somehow going to bring 10 Egyptian Plagues on our heads.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "most, if not all, religions claim to hold absolute power and absolute knowledge, which we know is untrue; especially due to last two centuries, etc"
Faith and metaphysics are also non falsifiable because they are not science. God can no more be disproved than he can be proved. Its interesting that you mention science. It was actually Christian theologians that founded the Universities that taught & ushered in the modern sciences & discovered many basic natural laws.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester That is correct. And Dark Ages weren't in fact as dark as it is often claimed. Still, with Christianity its like taking one step and then often going two steps backward. It either encouraged or oppressed science and it oppressed it mostly when it gained to too much political power. It's currently visible in many Muslim countries, who in earlier centuries have contributed greatly to expansion of knowledge.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "And no, it's not the arrest that is threating atheists in most Christian countries, but ostracism, which in many cases is quite painful - especially when you pair it with silly accusations that atheism is evil, immoral and so on"
Well then videos like the one above don't seem to be helping the atheist cause much.
Ill tell you what, show me some evidence that atheist are persecuted or discriminated in Poland. I promise I will consider your claim. Send it to my message box.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester As is rebutting it with the mentioning of communistic regimes of the past, while - as I've said - most people who persecute homosexuals today, are against abortion or don't want equal rights for women are predominantly coming from conservative, religious backgrounds.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 "most people who persecute homosexuals today, are against abortion or don't want equal rights for women are predominantly coming from conservative, religious backgrounds"
Who is persecuting homosexuals or women? If you cant provide evidence then that says a lot.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester And I'll find you evidence - if I find it in English that's on thhe Internet and not newspaper and something that can be sufficiently translated by google translate. But I can already tell you that most is especially ugly when non-christian children (or they have non-religious parents) are forced to sit through compulsory religion classes and often ridiculed or called all kinds of things, which is simply heinous.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester There are of course some ethics classes sometimes offered as an alternative and on rare occasions they get permission to skip religion classes - for choosing both options they're ostracized, often by children encouraged by priests or other religious people.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7
No I am not from Texas. Do you know the name of every politician in your country? As I said before, you have the right to believe what ever you want even if your a governor. If you are an American citizen and yet choose to live in a country that you are not happy with, then again, dont blame others.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester I actually know quite a lot of them and I certainly know prominent figures and Perry IS a prominent figure.
And you have the right to believe in whatever you want, but AS a worker of secular government you serve not only you and your friends - you serve the people. All of them!
Also - I actually prefer to live in Poland, due to what's happening in America. We're sensible enough folks and we won't tolerate the leash of Church for long.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@benthemiester And wait, what? There was no migration, most of those atheist states are now church states, with religion sticking its fingers to government all the time. Hence strong anti-gay and anti-abortion law and Church being given power + huge amounts of land. There are compulsory religion classes to up to high school and there are crosses in almost every public building or school. That'll hopefully end soon enough.
MidnightTea7 5 months ago

MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 I agree with your citation he had rejected the church, and yes some people will make use the term a political religion. Yes this is my point. I'm glad we can agree, at least on this point.
benthemiester 5 months ago
@benthemiester *facepalm* Whatever you might say about his private life, publicly he embraced it so much, that he envisioned himself a person on God's mission. Christian God, I'd like to add. The fact that he rejected one church/denomination doesn't make him a person not influenced by Christian religion and there's hardly any disagreement between historians that his anti-semitism was definitely influenced by Viennese equivalent of right-wing fundamentalism in US.

@benthemiester LOL, can't you really see the irony of quoting this??? Also, where do these quotes come from? I don't mean letters, but the quoted letters. benthemiester 5 months ago

Or are you just making this up & giving your own Psychoanalysis? Maybe the simpler answer is that he was politician. Have you ever heard of Ocams Razor?
benthemiester 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 The reason why you didn't quote Wiki, is because being a European, you know as well as I do that people have been translating German, French & English for centuries. These languages are not that far apart from each other, & for anyone to say that his true meaning was lost in the translation is absurd, especially when these letters were consistently saying the same thing. You yourself quoted the fact that he rejected the church. You still refuse to answer a simple question.

MidnightTea7 5 months ago
@MidnightTea7 Likewise, the Chinese government did treat homosexuality as a disease and subjected gay men to electric shock therapy and other attempts to change their sexual orientation ["China Using Electrodes To 'Cure' Homosexuals", New York Times, January 29, 1990]
Mao Zedong believed in the sexual castration of "sexual deviants" (Randy Shilts. "Conduct Unbecoming")
