SailorBarsoom: Dir. Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Planet Terror) is planning the make of Barbarella, and Rose McGowan is in the talks for the lead role. I'm confident that if Robert decides to make the film (and if it's greenlit by a distributor), it'll be great.
when i first saw John Phillip Law in Barbarlla. thats when i thought i would try to get super fit like him, he had a great body. Rest in peace John Phillip Law. the film was great as well.
When this movie came out, a sexually powerful woman was seen as a force for good. She could inspire the blind angel to fly again.
Sexually powerful women in movies today are either psycho-stalkers (Fatal Attraction) or seductresses who use their sexuality to get away with other crimes (Basic Instinct). Those are from the late Eighties/early Nineties, but nothing suggests that things have changed.
Supposedly, Barbarella is being remade. It will be interesting to see how they handle this.
This is one of the most crucial and important films in cinema. Do not overestimate the value of Barbarella. Time will tell how this film will stand out in its uniqeness.
John Phillip Law isn't the best actor in the world, but by God, the man sure is a hunky piece of man. I don't mean his body, muscles don't do it for me, I like a man with a tummy. His face sure is bloody gorgeous though.
Jane Fonda has got to be one of the worst actresses ever!! This film is one of my fave's!!

this picture was the oddest film i have ever seen the too bad they didnt get a better director and script writer to do it properly because quite frankly this film was complete rubbish.
Pygar was played by John Phillip Law the same actor who played Kalgan in Space Mutiny.

Thanks. I've heard that the studio doesn't want McGowan, Rodriguez won't have anybody else, and the whole thing is back in Development Heck.
But I don't know how reliable any of that is. _Barbarella_ is just so... SIXTIES! It'll be interesting to see how it's handled today.

After this film's production, Pygar's nest was recycled to be used as Big Bird's nest on Sesame Street.
Joke!

Sexually powerful woman, 1969: Barbarella
Sexually powerful woman, 1992: Basic Instinct
Sexually powerful woman, 2006: Basic Instinct 2
You know, I'm kind of glad this is being remade. We need it.

Yeah, John Philip Law did seem rather "nellie" in this picture. Did they tell him he was playing an angel or a fairy?
