I first heared this song in 1974 and had never heard the name Cassandra before and I fell in love with the name and named my only child Cassandra, also the song is very special to me.Apparently Cassandra means the Greek Goddess of prophecy.
OMG I was a Sherbet fan in the 70's...had a friend who was a total Garth Porter stalker..I'm in some videos of the concert on Sydney Harbour when she dived inthe harbour...omg..........memories...thank you soo much! Still love you Daryl!!!!!x
i've loved sherbert when i saw them doing can you feel if baby on 'the happening' in 1971
and then i saw them at the royal Easter show at the horden pavilion in about 1974 and last time i saw Daryl was at Jupiters casino in 2010 and he's still as bloody good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and pretty hot for an old fella
I was 8 when this song came out, all my girlfriends had a crush on daryl, I just loved the song because my is cassandra and there wernt many of us n my name was never mentioned on shows like romper room! It was a blast to have a song titled Cassandra, n it was a nice song anyways
A guy I went to school with had a younger sister named Cassandra (years before the song came out). I just recall she was stunning (at least I thought so) and I did have a bit of a crush on her. Saw them perform this and other stuff live in 1973. Cassandra where are you now?
@LaniMirNess My Ma named me after this song. I hated my name for years haha! Grew on me. My Ma passed away this year. I now watch this & I smile, cry & laugh. Before I was born, Ma was a singer & guitarist in a band. I am so happy to be born in the 70's. RIP Pamela 10/01/1958 - 04/01/12011
@TheBubalou Hey Casandra, just read ya post to sherbets Casandra... ROFL I called a girl called Amanda "Cassandra" as I loved this sond so much she hated being called Cassandra BTW..:) its a cool name
Great post of my favorite Sherbet track! Seem to remember that Daryl loved the song but hated the production choice of putting phaser over the strings!
You know they really had the whole package. Such a songwriting talent with Garth Porter and Clive Shakespeare. Alan was an exceptional drummer also. And the satin!
Yeah and we all thought Sherbet were so 'goody goody' and skyhooks were the 'naughty' ones! Notice the dude goes to get a scotch, the funny ciggies don't get used. What a waste. lol. Yeah I waz wondering about 'Cassandra', she's no Lara Bingle thats for sure!!! he he
Ha ha ha!! I was just telling a similar story on facebook to one of the girls who knocked the Twisties out of my hand in the tuckshop line for saying I liked the Bay City Rollers more than Sherbet!! lol 'o)
In my defense!! I DID totally think Sherbet were brilliant - loved Garth - but I was totally NUTS on the Bay City Rollers!
"you make the stars shine thru the darkest night....". One of my favorite all time love songs by anybody, an Aussie pop classic, and Sherbet's finest moment. Two great live versions, 1973 and the Reunion performance, on the Sherbet Live DVD.
Mark Holden type, stoned in chick's bedroom hallucinates poster girls are real!
By time he pours the visions a drink, and adds ice, the Cassandra's have gone!
Damn those ready rolled Buddah Stick joints! He cannot stay mad with the drugs forever!
So he flares up another scoob, slips on his shades, and confronts the industrial military complex...luckily...the drugs work their magic and he is transported to the lovely landscape where the spirit of Cassandra is!
Looks like an episode from number 96! I guess back then they were experimenting with videos as it was all so new. Love the song but the video is a bit dodgy.
@steeplepossum39
yes Cassandra was the Goddess of prophecy but the only prophecy she got right was one of ruin so she was downcast.
