It is really a matter of being pragmatic. See Testing for HC BPPV video. There will be nystagmus L and R. If it is geotropic and transient (ie canalithiasis) you can initially assume it is on the side with the strongest Sx or nystagmus.
My wife has just been diagnosed with this type of vertigo. We had been doing the Eppley with not much success. She is going to a specialist who said it is in the Horizontal canal. She already seems better.
I did this yesterday after having the symptoms for a couple of days - the whole process took about two minutes and I have had NO symptoms since. Thank you so much. ffanakapan
