I have a Crossbreed holster and you can adjust the retention by heating the kydex with a hair blow drier and pressing around and in the trigger guard. I also adjust the tightness of my belt to fine tune the retention.
Another great video!......, please tell me your thoughts on the " spacing "of the belt clips on both of these holsters. In other words does the "wider spacing" between the belt clips distribute the weight more, making it a more comfortable carry? Does one holster carry better than the other?.....Thanks!
@shellman1973 Hi and thank you. Best example I can think of is if you can imagine a clothesline stretched out. If you place a hanger with a pair of jeans on it, you will notice that the hanger will put quite a strain on the clothesline since all the weight is concentrated on a single point on the hanger. Take the same hanger and unwind it and make two hooks the width of the hanger and you'll notice that the weight is distributed to a wider section of the clothesline.
@shellman1973 This distribution of the weight will make carrying a heavy gun much less noticeable and more comfortable. I dont know if that makes much sense, but the more weight you distribute over a greater area instead of on a concentrated on a narrow area means you feel less of the weight. Pair it up with a nice dedicated gun belt and you've got a comfortable carry system with either holster.
I just got my comptac today and my g30 is much better conceiled then in my DeSantis which is a great holster used it all winter. I love how you can change the kydex to any gun you wanna carry for 40 bucks about. Also very easy to drop or hieghten the holster as you feel fit. Havent used it yet but will all week. I think now i can keep my g30 all summer. Nice review my first opion is good holster. Also clips are pretty cheap if get worn out to replace.
Let me know what you think after visiting their website and perhaps viewing their video on FB. They are basically a family run, start up business apparently, who seem very serious about putting out a top product with lifetime warranties. I'd be interested in your take.
Great review. I wonder if in that you decided to purchase a second IWB rig if you considered the Black Mamba. I'm trying to decide between the 3 of them. The BM is the new kid on the block and from perusing their product line they seem to have some great products with different sizes. For example, their is a micro Mamba that I am considering for use with my Kahr PM9.
In the meantime, as I try to make a choice, I got a Remora.
@skykink Hello, Yes I have purchases several more IWB from Crossbreed as well as Comptac. I have never heard of the BM holsters though. I will have to take a closer look at them. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the video. I was wondering how well the Com-Tac holster covers the trigger guard. Were both of these holsters made for the same gun? Just looking at the kydex, it looks like the Crossbreed lets the gun sit deeper into the kydex, covering the trigger guard better. Is that the case (it's hard to tell just looking at the kydex molding of the two)?
"Combat Cut" Not making fun of you. Is this the new term for trimming a holster? Very nice review. I use a Milt Sparks VMII and after watching your review, I think these are really good holsters at a good price. Thanks for the time you put into the video. I learned a lot about the two holsters.
@Paulsfullofshit hi, this is the term used by the holster companies and not what I came up with. Basically its a specific cut so that you can get a full grip on the pistol before you draw the weapon out.
As a new CCH licensee in Ohio I found the video very helpful! I wanted to ask you... since you have had the Crossbreed a while, have you noticed any corrosion to the exposed screwbacks that are against your body? I have read on some forums that if you are in a hot climate or sweat a lot that corrosion becomes an issue...
@FireDude13 Hello, I've not experienced any type of corrosion what so ever. I do live in one of the most humid parts of the region and the holster has held up very nicely. I do rotate it between the comp-tac holster. Once you get the holster worn in, it is more comfortable than it was when new. You really can't go wrong with the Crossbreed.
You may already be aware of this but Crossbreed changed the design for their belt clips. Those were breaking because of the cutouts. Crossbreed will give you the new clips for free if you contact them.
Great job with showing all the differences between the two. I've been using the Comp Tac for over 2 years for, the 2 things that made me purchase the Comp Tac were 1-the kydex covers the entire weapon 2-it has the adjustable retention. I do prefer the clips on the crossbreed though.
Great review... i have the minataur.. the kydex was too tight for my gun (glock 19), the adjustment screws would fall out if i screwed them out far enough to be able to unholster my gun. Too tight and I couldn't get the gun out without the whole holster coming up and sometimes out when drawing. (not quick-draw, just normal speed) I would lean towards the crossbreed for that reason. Thanks for the vid.
I have one of each and they are both very good. The MTAC looks more refined and the interchangeable bodies is a great feature. I have Comp-Tac "C" clips on both holsters and definitely recommend them (as they are less noticeable and provide more stability).
If you want to increase retention on the supertuck you can put your gun in it, heat up the kydex with a hairdryer, and mold it to fit your trigger guard a little tighter. I did that with mine and I'm pretty sure I was following the included instructions
Excellent video. Because of one of your other videos I purchased a Crossbreeds Supertuck holster. As far as some people asking about retension, maybe some of you have but I personally have not done any kart wheels or any other flips while carrying a gun in any holster. As long as the gun fits in the proper holster for it, you should be fine.
@TXConcealedCarry Hi, I've had no retention issues either. When I felt that it needed to be a little tighter, I just tightened up my belt. Its a concept that most people dont get if they've never tried an IWB holster.
The Crossbread looks like crap and there is a huge difference between fit, finish, and quality... Also, Comp-tac does not take WEEKS to send their product out... Comp-tac all the way...
Excellent comparative review...well done! On the CROSSBREED, since it doesn't have tension screws, does the kydex hold the weapon in tightly...if you turn the holster upsidedown will your weapon fall out? The CROSSBREED appears very wide which I assume will lend itself to better support...any comments about the MINOTAUR in this regard? Thanks.
@applevalleyjoe The crossbreed holster when worn will hold your pistol just fine. These kydex hybrid holsters were designed to add tension to the holster as your wearing them. When not wearing it, your pistol will fall out of the holster. I've worn mine for over a year and I've never had any issues with my pistol ever falling out. The farther the distance between the belt clips, the better the weight distribution and the less you feel the weight of the pistol as your wearing it.
@applevalleyjoe The same concept goes for the Minotaur holster. The belt clips are spaced far enough apart where it will effectivly distribute the weight of the gun. Both of these are great examples of the hybrid IWB holsters. Either one will do the job, but I find the crossbreed type holsters are a bit more comfortable. You should check out whitehatholsters. They have added the best of both of these holsters and at a very competitive price point. I really like mine.
I do not like how the kydex doesn't fully cover the barrel on my g19. The kydex body on the Supertuck is also wider making it harder to put on. Spartan holster with c clips for me.
Great Review... I have a Crossbreed that I use everyday ... You CAN adjust the Crossbreed retention… just heat up the kydex and you'll be able to be molded it. I heated mine with the gun inside it and then pushed into the trigger guard with a gloved finger.. tightened right up … let cool before removing firearm. .. Also the clip issue has been fixed.. they no longer have the cross cut out that made the clip weak. .
I've had this holster for a little over a year and have never owned a CBST, but that Comp-Tac is SUPER comfortable, and concealable. I've worn it under a tucked in dress shirt with a black belt and no one ever even mentioned the clips, let alone suspected that I was carrying a gun. I carry either a 5" 1911 or a G22, and have never had a problem concealing either one. The great thing is that you can swap the Kydex body for other guns. Great vid and great rig!
@HowlingStatic a bit of loc-tite 242 on the screws, let it cure a day or two before wearing and you won't need to bother with it again.
i have both holsters, a black leather mtac i carry a 1911 in and a horsehide crossbreed i carry a sig 226 in. I gotta say i'm a bit keener on comp-tacs kydex and the way its molded(for those who are concerned about finish the mtac is easier on your gun). with the mtac i like its modular design, though i find the crossbreed a bit more comfortable.
@chanderson1 Thanks for the review. I know that you dont have the combat cut on your cbst but I am going to be ordering the CBST deluxe for my XDM compact and I'm torn on combat cut or not. Can you draw your weapon pretty easy without combat cut? do you think I will lose a lot of comfortability if I go with combat cut? Any advice to help me make up my mind will be appreciated. Thanks.
Nice vid. Question. So I have a springfield xd40 subcompact 3 inch barrel. I'm planning on buying the 5 inch barrel model in 9 mm. When i order my crossbreed Should I tell them to make the kydex to fit the 5 inch model xd? Will my subcompact 3 inch fit in it as well as the 5 inch model? Thanks. Please reply here or pm me. Thanks a million
I have a Galco IWB and being a fat boy it is the most painful holster Ive ever had.Wearing a 46 waist will i need a 48 to accomdade this holster?I carry a 23 glock, I'mconcerned about reholstering.Im shopping for a good summer holster. The cell pal is not good for a man who has Dunlap. The smart Carry is great with overalls and the best most confortable carry I've found to date.will you comment please?
@mandograss Hi, I have no experience with the Smart Carry. I can safely say that the Crossbreed is perhaps the most comfortable holster that I have ever owned.
hey @arckangel2087, if the day ever comes where you are put in a situation that requires deadly force, your gonna be saying every prayer you can think of, so don't complain about the crosses, trying to act tough and shit.
You can adjust the crossbread by heating the kydex at the trigger gaurd. Put damp rags on all of it except the trigger area with the gun in. Heat it up with a heat gun and press the area inside the trigger gaurd. Did it to mine to hold firmer since to clib around up in the air some at work. You can also send it back and they will do it for you. The crossbread did start to hurt my back some but I carry in the 5 to5:30 postion. not sure if thats why or not .
@CajCoo Hi, I personally prefer the Crossbreed for its overall comfort and everyday wearability. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied with the Crossbreed.
The Crossbreed Super Tuck is BY FAR the superior holster. Not to mention that they have a FAR superior customer service and warranty policy. With Crossbreed, you are dealing with real, accessible people. The owner/founder is a great guy, and he will personally answer any questions or concerns that one may have. I don't know or care where Comp-Tac is made, but Crossbreed is made here in the Midwest, in Missouri, home of Budweiser and other great products/companies. Go with the Crossbreed!!

@pete5668 So far the clips on the comptac are holding up and I was told by long time users that they will last for awhile (several years of daily use)
@chanderson1 I use the Comptac for my G26 and it's great, because it's a light weapon. But when I switch kydex on it for my full-sized 1911, I can see what you mean about the advantage the Crossbreed has with the greater clip distance. I haven't used a CB, but what you say makes sense.
Have you tried the horsehide version of CB? It seems like if it's a bit softer it might aid in retention, or maybe it makes no difference. Just wondering your preference/experience.
@jmk1a1 I have the horsehide version of the CB for my Ruger LCP and it works great. It distributes the weight of the pistol very nicely and has given me great everyday carry comfort. Although I dont see much of a difference in material as I am carrying, but I really havent had really high humidity days lately here in florida to see if it does make a difference.
@pete5668 I have been using the M-TAC with my full sized S&W M&P .40 on a daily basis. I use the C-Clips. I wear with both dress slacks fully tucked with dress shirts as well as jeans and untucked. I have had wonderful results and can't say enough for the comp-tac service. Nothing against the crossbreed. I have never used one. I chose Comp-tac because I liked the smaller backing and the fact that I can swap out the kydex for other weapons.
@jahcal777 Not all cops know the law, and some are vehemently anti-gun, and some meet both criteria. It's those types that I'd rather not know I'm carrying.
@marcosbullock That is not necessarily true. There are some cops that are against civilians carrying guns, concealed or not, that might want to make up a charge to arrest me to take my gun away. Those are the cops that shouldn't know I'm carrying.
@pete5668 Arm yourself with knowledge of the CC laws and you shouldn't have to worry about it. Even if some dumb Barney Fife wants to give you crap for carrying, as long as you're within your rights, he has no power to do anything to you. Thousands of Americans carry concealed every day and the police know it. Relax, they're on our side.
@pete5668 And there's the ignorance. I suspected that. You go on fearing and villainizing those who are sworn to protect us (and by us, I'm making the assumption that you too are a law-abiding citizen like myself) and I'll continue to carry my gun without a phobia of those who put their lives in danger daily to protect mine. They've earned my respect. What have you done?
@taterberryman There ARE police officers who ARE out to get people who are obeying the law. It doesn't matter what job someone has, all people are capable of wrong.
However, yeah most of the officers that I've come across seem to be good people. Trusting every police officer you see though, is a dangerous idea. I'll say the morally corrupt politicians and the people that elect them are scarier, since they end up making the awful unconstitutional laws that police officers end up enforcing.
@pete5668 If you have your CHL, who cares if a cop knows you're carrying? And the clips are rated for 100,000+ flexes. Have used mine nearly every day since shortly after they came out and still use the original clips, so no worries there.
The Crossbreed can be adjusted for retention; It's a very simple process that I've seen done on at least on holster. Procedure is to put the pistol in the holster, and then heat up the area inside the trigger guard until it is somewhat pliable. Then you adjust the depth of the indent into the triggerguard.
Also, the retention of the holster when NOT being worn is very different from when it IS being worn; Most of the retention comes from sandwiching the pistol between you and your belt.
I carry an XDm .45 and I am planning to buy the supertuck but the one issue I'm having is to have the combat cut or not. I have seen plenty of reviews of people saying yes and no with the advantages and disadvantages. In general, since yours is now a combat cut, has it improved over the normal cut?
Btw, how many magazines do u carry for extra on your person? Me and few friends of mine have debated between the number for double stack .45s. I say 4 personally since I have a good pouch for it.
@lightningwu Initially I didnt think the combat cut made much of a difference, but after practicing drawing from one with a combat cut I think its either worth it to do yourself or order one with it. Just a caution though, with the combat cut, you have more of your gun touching your skin. I only carry one spare magazine with me on a daily basis. At times I do have a few spares in my truck, but usually only one spare on my person.
@chanderson1 Ok, hopefully the combat cut comes out to be worth it cuz I believe that survival is more of an effective draw issue than one of comfort. I personally think from what other things I have seen is that the combat cut will only make the holster just a bit faster.
Only 1? Hmm, I have considered that but my mind is so conscience on more is better so 2 is normally my minimum.
@lightningwu Get the combat cut. When you need to draw that weapon you will want to be able to get a hold of the handle. I bought a crossbreed supertuck without the combat cut and then later cut away the leather because I couldn't easily access the weapon.
@lightningwu That's an excellent choice and I personally believe it is probably the single best holster available for the money. I've been carrying the horsehide variety for a couple years now and I couldn't be happier with the product.
what level of firearm are you using with those? wanted to ask, which would you recommend for a full size 1911, springfield 1911 - A1 5" barrel? i like the minotaur, but the Plastic clips are questionable? new to IWB holsters, trying to gather some reputable info from someone I trust, and you always give great advice, thanks for your time brother, cheers mate!
@elw619 Hi, I've carried full sized, steel framed 1911s in the CB and Comptac IWB holsters without any issues. This particular Comptac is for a full sized Sig P226 and it carries just fine. I would definetly pair it up with a nice belt specifically made to carry firearms. Initially I was concerned about the plastic clips, but quickly changed my mind. The clips are of a very flexible polymer and it looks like it will last quite a long time. Its very flexible and not brittle at all.
@elw619 Both are excellent and will carry your 1911 without any problems. CB and Comptac are two of the most comfortable IWB holsters I've ever owned. I think in the past 10 years of carry, I have spent well over $2000 dollars on different holsters. I just wished I would have had either of these two before I wasted my money on those other ones.
It looks like you could change out those plastic clips on the Minatour and use the metal crossbreed clips. I have never been big on IWB holsters but I've heard so many good things about the crossbreed super tuck that I will be getting one for my new sr9c. I'm in AZ so I think I'm going to try the horse hide to keep it as comfortable as possible. Great vid!
@SerialCapitalist Hi, the horsehide makes a little more noise while breaking in, thats the only downside I came across. I was in the same mindset as you about IWB holster and I've tried many. The CB IWB holsters have been and is still one of my favorites. I have a box full of IWB holsters that are now collecting dust. Save yourself a bit of time and money and try the CB or Minatour holsters, you will not be disappointed. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
I have had the Comp-Tac Minatour to carry my Kahr for about a year now. I have had absolutely no problems with it. I like the fact that it's adjustable 9 ways from Sunday. The rivets are covered and do not dig into the side. Good retention, well built. and extremely comfortable to carry. I would recommend this holster to anyone that wants to use an I.W.B. holster
WHy waste time doing a comparison of two holsters if you havent used one much or at all. There are so many reviews that people pull it out of the box and do a review.. Come on folks. play with it a few days before given a review.
@ohgary1 Listen and watch carefully. In the begining it says it is comparison mainly on materials and craftsmanship...nothing else. Why waste your time to watch something and not Listen.
Nice review! I think I'm gonna end up with the Comp-Tac only because of the interchanging of the kydex. I was set on a cross breed until I learned that though
both have pros and cons........Im shopping now for my G27....
Metal clips a must but maybe them plastic thingiess are not so bad, finished backing is a def plus, interchangeability of shells is nice....Make mine a CompBreed :)
thank you for this video i was kinnda on the fence about which one i wanted but i think im gonna go with the cross breed mostly because of the metal clips
@icarryaccw Your welcome and thanks for watching. Both are great holsters and serve the purpose well. Its just a matter of preferance. I still think the CB is slightly more comfortable after wearing the two holster.
@chanderson1 I have a Crossbreed Super Tuck for my Sig P239. I bought it about 2 1/2 years ago and it came with plastic belt clips ( I don't believe they are available anymore). I have had no problem with the plastic deforming or otherwise failing - and I wear it just about everyday. BTW: this is my favorite holster for IWB carry.
I also have the CrossBreed Delux and had the metal clips bend. I contacted Cross Breed and they sent two new ones free of charge. The problem lies in the punched out crosses, weakening the clip. Cross Breed said they are considering replacing them with an embossed cross on the clip, but had many thousands of the metal ones still in stock ( about a year ago). I had to cut away some to the leather on the bottom right corner (looking straight on) as it would dig into my upper leg at fold. orris1
They are both great holsters. I like the fact that I can change "bodies" on the Comp-tac and use it for more than one gun. I also had a small problem with the crossbreed depressing the extended magazine release on my glock 26, I am sure it could be fixed with some trimming. The Comp-tac has a cutout so it doesn't happen. Great video, thanks for taking the time to make and post it.
@chuckB617 Yes, the CompTac has a great advantage over the CB as far as being able to change shells for different guns. I've not had any issues with my CB and carrying my Kimber 1911. It has never depressed the mag release on me as of yet. Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching.
Great Video. I'm going with the MTAC here. I believe if your going to pay for something that cost that much it should have nice stitching and a nice finished leather. To me it just show a sense of quality and care for the customers. Very nice!
I've heard nothing but good things about Crossbreed so to each his or her own on which one they decide to purchase.
@marctipp Hi, yes the MTAC is a beautifully manufactured holster. The CB is not so pretty, but even they admit it. Both work very well. I just made a video of the pros and cons of wearing my G26 in the Comptac holster and it should be up very shortly. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked the video. Appreciate you leaving a comment!
Finally, someone who did a comparison vid! Outstanding idea, dude. Good stuff. I love my crossbreed supertuck. Best 90 bucks I've spent on a gun accessory!
@MrJimbofox It's hard to say anything bad about either holster. Lots of pros and cons to both. Both in my opinion are two of the most comfortable IWB holsters on the market and both do very well for their intended purpose. Thanks for leaving a comment and glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for the vids. Very well done. I'm shopping holsters for a Glock 23, my first CCW. A friend turned me onto the idea of a hybrid holster. I had narrowed it down to these two. A slight edge in my mind to the Crossbreed with the combat cut.
@Josohenz Hi, thanks for the comment and watching. The crossbreed is thinner, more flexible and doesnt shift around as much as the comptac. Both are great holsters. The comptac is a much more finished look and nicer visually, but the crossbreed does a better job.
great comparison vid. I am deciding on a Glock 19 or 26, or S&W m&p9c for my first CC firearm, and one of these holsters will be its new home. Very helpful!
@boarderboy287 Thank you! I'm really glad it helped you out. Good luck and hope to see a video from you about how you like the holster after wearing it for awhile.
now that you have worn both which one would you prefer me to get for the glock 27 i also want to carry that kimber alot more in the winter time would the comp tac be a better choice for carrying 2 guns i still dont have a iwb for my kimber?
@jtmoney606 Hi, after wearing both for some time now, I've found pros and cons to both. The crossbreed is much thinner material meaning for an IWB holster system, it is more comfortable. The comptac I have noticed shifts alot. The finished side of the holster goes against your side and it is not as sticky as the crossbreed. I'm going to get a crossbreed for my G26. I'll give it a try, but I'm sure it will definetly be the one I will carry over the comptac.
The Crossbreed, and its copy cats like Kholster are actually a better idea than the Minotaur. The Crossbread, etc. type holsters look pretty crappy but their leather thinness and the fact that are flat on the back is what makes them comfortable. The Coke bottle like construction of the more traditional IWB holsters like VeraMax II, and even the Minotaur are just not going to be as good. The Minotaur will not be like the flat back holsters. I will be surprised if you like it.
I'm calling comp-tac today to see if I can get that Minotaur with a 1911 kydex half included. I don't know why they don't have it listed for it but they do have a 1911 kydex half that you can buy separately, gonna see if I can get them together, otherwise I'm going elsewhere...not paying $120 for it.
$120 is actually pretty cheap for a holster, but I dont see why they wouldn't put one together for you with the 1911 shell. There are only four screws so I dont think it would be a big hassle for them.
well I called them up and the reason they don't have it is because Minotaur is working on fixing a problem with the safety getting flipped off. They took it off their product list but the lady said they were thinking about 2 weeks for the fix but no guarantees.
Hi, with both holsters being in the same price range. I would have to say that I think the Comp-Tac would be my choice. Its a more finished look and just as comfortable. Also crossbreed charges you extra for having a combat cut, while the Comp-Tac already has one. No extra charges. Another advantage of the Comp-Tac is that you can switch kydex shells for a different gun instead of having to buy the whole holster.
Thanks for the comparison, I've been going crazy the last two weeks and was dead set on the Crossbreed but now I think I'm going to go with the Mtac. I live right down the road from Comp-Tac so going to call tomorrow to see if I can pick one up when it's done etc.
Thanks again for this video and the others you've posted.
The Mtac is an extremely nice and comfortable holster. You will not be disappointed with it. It has a more finished and refined look compared to the crossbreed. Both are comfortable though.
Nice video. I appreciate the detailed description of both. I am probably going to get both for my 1911s but apparently they are not making the comp-tac for 1911s right now, for some reason. I hope it is temporary.
Thanks! I didnt realize that. I just looked on their website because I wanted to see if I can order one for my Crossbreed and your right, they dont make them for 1911. I hope it is temporary also. Thanks for the comment!
Nice vid 5/5. I did surgery on my Crossbreed holster too. It is comfortable but drawing the weapon seems like grip and re-grip deal. I do like the Minotaur specially if you can change the kydex. Very Smart ! As of today...LOL I got 2 XDM and a XD subcompact but if I get something else... I am getting a Minotaur holster, it looks very nice. The smaller plastic clips may work better and will not scratch the belt. Good review very informative ! Thanks
Appreciate the comment alex! You will really have to try out the minotaur. I dont think you'll be disappointed. It is very well made and quality is top notch. I feel a little better since a couple of my viewers told me that thier clips have lasted them for years now. I really like the Minotaur and wore it all day today. Very comfortable system. I could just imagine if I had a smaller pistol for carry...it would really be comfortable then. Thanks for the comment and take care!
Hey Chris, I also have the Tucker Answer for my G19. IWB hybrid holster, beautiful fit and finish, a little thicker than the MTAC, super comfortable like the MTAC but $125.00. The MTAC is just about as good or better than the Tucker quite a bit less in price. Just a data point for you guys, both awesome holsters.
I actually looked at the Tucker a few times, but I really wanted to get the MTAC since it was a major competitor with CB just to see the differences. I am at work right now and they guys here really love the MTAC holster when I showed it to them. The fit and finish is just incredible. I am extremely pleased to see this type of quality and craftsmenship made in America again.
Great vid. I love my CB. The only reention u can actually do is to tighten it up a bit by heating the kydex. I love the versatility of being able to change out the kydex for different guns on the comp-tac. Very well done
the ability to change just the kydex shell is a very big advantage with the Comp-Tac holster. This way you can have the leather portion of it broken in while having a new kydex shell for a brand new gun. They also make open ended kydex shells so you can buy one shell for a glock and it will be able to fit several different barrel length glocks too! Extremely versatile holster man. Thanks for the comment.
Actually I've never had to use it until the past two years. Its been freezing down here man! Just last week it was down to a bone chilling 35 degrees...now thats cold for FLA.
what was the belt u bought i am looking for a belt that would do good for carrying that isnt too exspensive most of the ones i have looked at are high priced
great vid as usual. the mtac does look good to me. but the cb i think will get the nod for me because i carry the glock 22 so more the holster will cover the better. never thought about the cut on the cb?? i agree with 1911blade tand you the bison belt is the only way to go. it made a big difference in the comfort level.
Hi, yes the CB is definetly a great holster. I would suggest getting the combat cut because you can easily get a great grip on the draw. The only downside is that CB charges a little extra for that.
I have had no issues with the plastic clips (1 yr). I find the finished leather on the back more comfortable than the CB and the rig is generally smaller in size.
Love my MTAC, they also have other versions of this holster.
With all the new technologies developed for polymers, I think your right. I like that it flexes a little to make it that much more comfortable. 1911bladeguy said his lasted for 2 years without issues. This is very good to know.

In the meantime, as I try to make a choice, I got a Remora.
skykink 2 months ago
@skykink Hello, Yes I have purchases several more IWB from Crossbreed as well as Comptac. I have never heard of the BM holsters though. I will have to take a closer look at them. Thanks for the info.
chanderson1 2 months ago
Thanks for the video. I was wondering how well the Com-Tac holster covers the trigger guard. Were both of these holsters made for the same gun? Just looking at the kydex, it looks like the Crossbreed lets the gun sit deeper into the kydex, covering the trigger guard better. Is that the case (it's hard to tell just looking at the kydex molding of the two)?
bltduncan 2 months ago
"Combat Cut" Not making fun of you. Is this the new term for trimming a holster? Very nice review. I use a Milt Sparks VMII and after watching your review, I think these are really good holsters at a good price. Thanks for the time you put into the video. I learned a lot about the two holsters.
Paulsfullofshit 3 months ago
@Paulsfullofshit hi, this is the term used by the holster companies and not what I came up with. Basically its a specific cut so that you can get a full grip on the pistol before you draw the weapon out.
chanderson1 3 months ago
As a new CCH licensee in Ohio I found the video very helpful! I wanted to ask you... since you have had the Crossbreed a while, have you noticed any corrosion to the exposed screwbacks that are against your body? I have read on some forums that if you are in a hot climate or sweat a lot that corrosion becomes an issue...
FireDude13 3 months ago
@FireDude13 Hello, I've not experienced any type of corrosion what so ever. I do live in one of the most humid parts of the region and the holster has held up very nicely. I do rotate it between the comp-tac holster. Once you get the holster worn in, it is more comfortable than it was when new. You really can't go wrong with the Crossbreed.
chanderson1 3 months ago
You may already be aware of this but Crossbreed changed the design for their belt clips. Those were breaking because of the cutouts. Crossbreed will give you the new clips for free if you contact them.
bloozepicker 3 months ago
Great job with showing all the differences between the two. I've been using the Comp Tac for over 2 years for, the 2 things that made me purchase the Comp Tac were 1-the kydex covers the entire weapon 2-it has the adjustable retention. I do prefer the clips on the crossbreed though.
BigTonyFromPA 3 months ago
Great review... i have the minataur.. the kydex was too tight for my gun (glock 19), the adjustment screws would fall out if i screwed them out far enough to be able to unholster my gun. Too tight and I couldn't get the gun out without the whole holster coming up and sometimes out when drawing. (not quick-draw, just normal speed) I would lean towards the crossbreed for that reason. Thanks for the vid.
jim957t 3 months ago
I have one of each and they are both very good. The MTAC looks more refined and the interchangeable bodies is a great feature. I have Comp-Tac "C" clips on both holsters and definitely recommend them (as they are less noticeable and provide more stability).
98379SA 4 months ago
Comp Tac's website used to tell you how many Donn/Doff's the clips will do.
theblackkknight1 4 months ago
If you want to increase retention on the supertuck you can put your gun in it, heat up the kydex with a hairdryer, and mold it to fit your trigger guard a little tighter. I did that with mine and I'm pretty sure I was following the included instructions
smith45acp 5 months ago
Excellent video. Because of one of your other videos I purchased a Crossbreeds Supertuck holster. As far as some people asking about retension, maybe some of you have but I personally have not done any kart wheels or any other flips while carrying a gun in any holster. As long as the gun fits in the proper holster for it, you should be fine.
TXConcealedCarry 6 months ago
@TXConcealedCarry Hi, I've had no retention issues either. When I felt that it needed to be a little tighter, I just tightened up my belt. Its a concept that most people dont get if they've never tried an IWB holster.
chanderson1 6 months ago
The Crossbread looks like crap and there is a huge difference between fit, finish, and quality... Also, Comp-tac does not take WEEKS to send their product out... Comp-tac all the way...
damiansar15 7 months ago
Excellent comparative review...well done! On the CROSSBREED, since it doesn't have tension screws, does the kydex hold the weapon in tightly...if you turn the holster upsidedown will your weapon fall out? The CROSSBREED appears very wide which I assume will lend itself to better support...any comments about the MINOTAUR in this regard? Thanks.
applevalleyjoe 7 months ago
@applevalleyjoe The crossbreed holster when worn will hold your pistol just fine. These kydex hybrid holsters were designed to add tension to the holster as your wearing them. When not wearing it, your pistol will fall out of the holster. I've worn mine for over a year and I've never had any issues with my pistol ever falling out. The farther the distance between the belt clips, the better the weight distribution and the less you feel the weight of the pistol as your wearing it.
chanderson1 7 months ago
@applevalleyjoe The same concept goes for the Minotaur holster. The belt clips are spaced far enough apart where it will effectivly distribute the weight of the gun. Both of these are great examples of the hybrid IWB holsters. Either one will do the job, but I find the crossbreed type holsters are a bit more comfortable. You should check out whitehatholsters. They have added the best of both of these holsters and at a very competitive price point. I really like mine.
chanderson1 7 months ago
I do not like how the kydex doesn't fully cover the barrel on my g19. The kydex body on the Supertuck is also wider making it harder to put on. Spartan holster with c clips for me.
rww38 8 months ago
Great Review... I have a Crossbreed that I use everyday ... You CAN adjust the Crossbreed retention… just heat up the kydex and you'll be able to be molded it. I heated mine with the gun inside it and then pushed into the trigger guard with a gloved finger.. tightened right up … let cool before removing firearm. .. Also the clip issue has been fixed.. they no longer have the cross cut out that made the clip weak. .
David4946 8 months ago

Go with the Crossbreed!!

pete5668 1 year ago
@pete5668 So far the clips on the comptac are holding up and I was told by long time users that they will last for awhile (several years of daily use)
chanderson1 1 year ago
@chanderson1 I use the Comptac for my G26 and it's great, because it's a light weapon. But when I switch kydex on it for my full-sized 1911, I can see what you mean about the advantage the Crossbreed has with the greater clip distance. I haven't used a CB, but what you say makes sense.
Have you tried the horsehide version of CB? It seems like if it's a bit softer it might aid in retention, or maybe it makes no difference. Just wondering your preference/experience.
jmk1a1 1 year ago

What have you done?
taterberryman 1 year ago
@taterberryman Easy, killer.
pete5668 1 year ago
@taterberryman There ARE police officers who ARE out to get people who are obeying the law. It doesn't matter what job someone has, all people are capable of wrong.
However, yeah most of the officers that I've come across seem to be good people. Trusting every police officer you see though, is a dangerous idea. I'll say the morally corrupt politicians and the people that elect them are scarier, since they end up making the awful unconstitutional laws that police officers end up enforcing.

Did you combat cut the Crossbreed yourself?
blanknot 1 year ago
@blanknot Yes I did. With a straight razor, then I rolled and burned the edges. Very easy process and you can custom cut to your liking.
chanderson1 1 year ago
The Crossbreed can be adjusted for retention; It's a very simple process that I've seen done on at least on holster. Procedure is to put the pistol in the holster, and then heat up the area inside the trigger guard until it is somewhat pliable. Then you adjust the depth of the indent into the triggerguard.
Also, the retention of the holster when NOT being worn is very different from when it IS being worn; Most of the retention comes from sandwiching the pistol between you and your belt.
BTCBRIN 1 year ago
I carry an XDm .45 and I am planning to buy the supertuck but the one issue I'm having is to have the combat cut or not. I have seen plenty of reviews of people saying yes and no with the advantages and disadvantages. In general, since yours is now a combat cut, has it improved over the normal cut?
Btw, how many magazines do u carry for extra on your person? Me and few friends of mine have debated between the number for double stack .45s. I say 4 personally since I have a good pouch for it.
lightningwu 1 year ago
@lightningwu Initially I didnt think the combat cut made much of a difference, but after practicing drawing from one with a combat cut I think its either worth it to do yourself or order one with it. Just a caution though, with the combat cut, you have more of your gun touching your skin. I only carry one spare magazine with me on a daily basis. At times I do have a few spares in my truck, but usually only one spare on my person.
chanderson1 1 year ago
@chanderson1 Ok, hopefully the combat cut comes out to be worth it cuz I believe that survival is more of an effective draw issue than one of comfort. I personally think from what other things I have seen is that the combat cut will only make the holster just a bit faster.
Only 1? Hmm, I have considered that but my mind is so conscience on more is better so 2 is normally my minimum.
lightningwu 1 year ago
@lightningwu Get the combat cut. When you need to draw that weapon you will want to be able to get a hold of the handle. I bought a crossbreed supertuck without the combat cut and then later cut away the leather because I couldn't easily access the weapon.

what level of firearm are you using with those? wanted to ask, which would you recommend for a full size 1911, springfield 1911 - A1 5" barrel? i like the minotaur, but the Plastic clips are questionable? new to IWB holsters, trying to gather some reputable info from someone I trust, and you always give great advice, thanks for your time brother, cheers mate!
elw619 1 year ago
@elw619 Hi, I've carried full sized, steel framed 1911s in the CB and Comptac IWB holsters without any issues. This particular Comptac is for a full sized Sig P226 and it carries just fine. I would definetly pair it up with a nice belt specifically made to carry firearms. Initially I was concerned about the plastic clips, but quickly changed my mind. The clips are of a very flexible polymer and it looks like it will last quite a long time. Its very flexible and not brittle at all.
chanderson1 1 year ago
@elw619 Both are excellent and will carry your 1911 without any problems. CB and Comptac are two of the most comfortable IWB holsters I've ever owned. I think in the past 10 years of carry, I have spent well over $2000 dollars on different holsters. I just wished I would have had either of these two before I wasted my money on those other ones.
chanderson1 1 year ago
@chanderson1 thanks dude, i will definately get a hold of one of those two shortly.

It looks like you could change out those plastic clips on the Minatour and use the metal crossbreed clips.

Good luck and hope to see a video from you about how you like the holster after wearing it for awhile.

now that you have worn both which one would you prefer me to get for the glock 27 i also want to carry that kimber alot more in the winter time would the comp tac be a better choice for carrying 2 guns i still dont have a iwb for my kimber?
jtmoney606 1 year ago
@jtmoney606 Hi, after wearing both for some time now, I've found pros and cons to both. The crossbreed is much thinner material meaning for an IWB holster system, it is more comfortable. The comptac I have noticed shifts alot. The finished side of the holster goes against your side and it is not as sticky as the crossbreed. I'm going to get a crossbreed for my G26. I'll give it a try, but I'm sure it will definetly be the one I will carry over the comptac.
chanderson1 1 year ago
The Crossbreed, and its copy cats like Kholster are actually a better idea than the Minotaur. The Crossbread, etc. type holsters look pretty crappy but their leather thinness and the fact that are flat on the back is what makes them comfortable. The Coke bottle like construction of the more traditional IWB holsters like VeraMax II, and even the Minotaur are just not going to be as good. The Minotaur will not be like the flat back holsters. I will be surprised if you like it.

actually u can adjust the tension on the crossbreed with wet cloth and blow dry it will shrink it if u want a tighter fit on the gun
heiney69 1 year ago
@heiney69 Great man! Thanks for that tip. May give it a try in the future, but for now the tension is pretty good still.

I'm calling comp-tac today to see if I can get that Minotaur with a 1911 kydex half included. I don't know why they don't have it listed for it but they do have a 1911 kydex half that you can buy separately, gonna see if I can get them together, otherwise I'm going elsewhere...not paying $120 for it.
whitey211 2 years ago
$120 is actually pretty cheap for a holster, but I dont see why they wouldn't put one together for you with the 1911 shell. There are only four screws so I dont think it would be a big hassle for them.
chanderson1 2 years ago
well I called them up and the reason they don't have it is because Minotaur is working on fixing a problem with the safety getting flipped off. They took it off their product list but the lady said they were thinking about 2 weeks for the fix but no guarantees.
whitey211 2 years ago
So between the 2 which one do you like better? Im looking for one for my xd9 and i am stuck between the 2
one5oh2nv 2 years ago
Hi, with both holsters being in the same price range. I would have to say that I think the Comp-Tac would be my choice. Its a more finished look and just as comfortable. Also crossbreed charges you extra for having a combat cut, while the Comp-Tac already has one. No extra charges. Another advantage of the Comp-Tac is that you can switch kydex shells for a different gun instead of having to buy the whole holster.
chanderson1 2 years ago
Thanks for the comparison, I've been going crazy the last two weeks and was dead set on the Crossbreed but now I think I'm going to go with the Mtac. I live right down the road from Comp-Tac so going to call tomorrow to see if I can pick one up when it's done etc.
Thanks again for this video and the others you've posted.

The Mtac is an extremely nice and comfortable holster. You will not be disappointed with it. It has a more finished and refined look compared to the crossbreed. Both are comfortable though.
chanderson1 2 years ago
Nice video. I appreciate the detailed description of both. I am probably going to get both for my 1911s but apparently they are not making the comp-tac for 1911s right now, for some reason. I hope it is temporary.
Mooselola 2 years ago

I do know what your talking about now. Its really a great holster and very comfortable man. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the vids Chris.

Very well done
stubby0032 2 years ago
the ability to change just the kydex shell is a very big advantage with the Comp-Tac holster.

I hear ya. When I was stationed in Mayport, it would get pretty damn cold in the winter

The CB is a great holster! If your used to the traditional holsters, the CB will feel so much better.
chanderson1 2 years ago
great vid as usual. the mtac does look good to me. but the cb i think will get the nod for me because i carry the glock 22 so more the holster will cover the better. never thought about the cut on the cb?? i agree with 1911blade tand you the bison belt is the only way to go. it made a big difference in the comfort level.
chopperguy58 2 years ago
Hi, yes the CB is definetly a great holster. I would suggest getting the combat cut because you can easily get a great grip on the draw. The only downside is that CB charges a little extra for that.
chanderson1 2 years ago
I have had no issues with the plastic clips (1 yr). I find the finished leather on the back more comfortable than the CB and the rig is generally smaller in size.
Love my MTAC, they also have other versions of this holster.
Lars191145 2 years ago
With all the new technologies developed for polymers, I think your right. I like that it flexes a little to make it that much more comfortable. 1911bladeguy said his lasted for 2 years without issues. This is very good to know.

You can get replacement clips from Comptac. 2 years and mine are fine, they will break eventually from fatigue.
