It's well phrased, very fast, clean, and voiced properly. Very 'proper', and unfortunately not very interesting. Lugansky is great, just a wee bit sterile, for me.
A good recording, but like the Gorlatch it is way too fast. For the definitive Youtube recordings, see Blechacz and Pogorelich. They bring out so much more in their performances!
As a pinistic feat, it's phenomenal. But if you look for pearly grace, spicy surprises in passing harmonies, curves & elegance with wit........it's just fart oof ast, taking the piece out of the natural soundscape a twitch it can be fully appreciote. I admire Lug-an'-ski and have loved many of his performances, but this actually reduces the piece's full effect.
And then there are 2 options: or you let the melody (which is in the left hand, in this Etude) sing, or you focus on the fast notes (which are only broken chords) in the right hand.
Most pianists take the second option.
In my opinion this reduces the music's quality heavily.
@NOSEhow2LIV i think the same. he can be more "musician" and musical other days... it's often the case with pianists today in the Chopin's etudes. I prefer, by far, the imagination of Horowitz, Lhevinne, Friedman...
The fact that you asked this proves without doubt to the whole YouTube Forum YOU know absolutely NOTHING about music. You make not like this piece but to make this comment ?
He I just noticed GREAT name you have their Dez the man with a destruction BRAIN. Get a life, this man is one of the greatest living pianists, WHAT would you know ?????
Masterful...

@TheMoritati Lugansky is not just sterile, he is no musician. Just a mechanical non-expressive player.

@ldhmage Lots of them, unfortunately. Makes me really grateful for the amazing artists that we DO have, i.e. Horowitz and Gilels.

A new benchmark has been set in my mind, as well as I am sure others, with regards to what one should strive for when pursuing technical perfection.

@NOSEhow2LIV
I actually agree with you.
There is a 'tradition' of playing Chopin's Etudes, Waltzes and Polonaises in a (very) high tempo and for what ?
To show you can do it ?
Many people don't realize that playing well at a moderated speed can be much more difficult than 'flying'!

Hmmm...I don't think it's mushy or anything, just that the recording is terrible.

Did you watch it in HD?
That means High Definition, so that the quality is even better and more defined.
Even with HD, his Pedal is too much or that his right hand is too much for the pedal.
