  • Don't compare to Mariah, please. Rachelle sings great, but the whistle is so irritating. Mariah Carey gives melody and rhythm to her whistles. Don't even try to compare.

  • I saw her in concert and was blown away. This lady hits those notes seated! I am a fan forever. I enjoy all music including opera. I would love to hear her, Kathleen Battle and Andrea do a duet. PURE BEAUTY. Hell I can barely blow candles out and she's putting out house fires, lol!

  • holllyyy fuuuckin shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mariah Carey and Rachelle Ferrell are both great talented artists.

  • Mariah wish she can sing can that! Thats SANGING chile lol

  • While i do agree Rachelle Ferrell has an awesome voice and she luxuriates in it, she can do anything with it that she wants. She has an incredible instrument beyond compare. That said, I found myself leaving her concert once at the essence festival many years ago. It was just too much! There is a such thing as taste and just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I would say the same thing with an instrumentalist playing too many notes and totally losing the song itself. This just me.

  • @nancydrew5 Hi Nancy...That's just Kooky! Hear me out...I was blessed to be able to go to Rachelle's concert in Los Angeles. She just likes to have fun...with her passion and with her audience. It's so inspiring. She gets to do what she wants to do, what she was blessed to do, and she has fun with it. You could decide to join in the fun of the extra oomph she puts on it...OR NOT. This is just me. Besides, I don't want to sit by any un-fun people so thanks for leaving.

  • @YourFriendlyPhoto "Hi Nancy...That's just Kooky!"

Don't expect someone to 'hear you out' when you readily dismiss someone else's thoughts as being kooky just because they don't line up with how you want them to think about Rachelle Farelle. So no I won't be hearing you out. You're entitled to your thoughts and I'm entitled to mine. I don't need you to 'xplain to me what Rachelle does with her voice. I'm a pianist who accompanies singers. I speak from my experience and what is tasteful to me

  • @YourFriendlyPhoto "Besides, I don't want to sit by any un-fun people so thanks for leaving."

And since you probably were not even at the concert where I was, you wouldn't have been besides me anyway. It never ceases to amaze me how folks just start attacking others because they have a different belief system than what they have. I didn't happen to like what Rachelle was doing at 'THAT particular concert I attended, and here you come trying to make me be wrong about MY thoughts. Get over it.

  • Holy Crap! Not only does she kill Mariah Carey, but she'd nuke Whitney Houston along the way, just for kicks

  • Hahaha! What?! Mariah sounds sooooo much sweeter she's more scratchy with big pipes. Big deal. Pretty talented. Definitely. But not close to Mariah. Sowy ya'll. I know people personally, that sound better. I just hate when people start this competition thing. So stupid.. but so much fun haha.. PEacE!

  • No offence to Mariah fans but this blows Mariah out the water...

  • I'm just saying that Natalie Cole can sing. But I've never heard anything like Rachelle, The Songs Lives Within........

  • wht song is that at the end

  • @nikkotoogood All the songs are listed in order under the 'more information' tab.

  • There is no one living or in recent memory that has the range, artistry, power, and control of Rachelle Ferrell.

  • Why does everyone keep comparing everyone?!! And when they do THEY NEVER include Minnie Ripperton. She was the first lyric soprano in R&B, Soul and Rock.

  • @IndianQueen001 I understand where you are coming from...can't forget about Minnie!

  • OMG HER VOICE IS UNLIKE ANYONE ELSES VOICE. SHE IS WICKED!!!!!!!!!!

  • I never thought about it, but, Msredhoney, you were spot on in your comparison with Rachelle and Mariah Carey.... absolutely no comparison. Dat's right... I said it too!! Although I've seen many other some would put in her category, I'm not sure I can agree with any... especially Anita Baker-- no way no how... nice girl and everything but definitely apples and oranges. Possibly - Minnie Riperton. Take care all and be blessed

  • Truly an unsung hero, she is one of the greatest female vocalist of all times.

  • a beast

  • Again.......this is ABSOLUTELY IGNORANT! There is NO ONE ALIVE (that I have heard or been told) that matches this woman's talent! Her soul is very blessed and her voice is a world treasure!!!!!!

  • She sing with body pieceing sound as vivid as sight itself !!! You gotta love Rachelle !!!

  • Oh lord!

  • **correction: "whistle SINGER" haha, sorry. <:D

  • But I do agree--It's a HUGE shame that she's not recognized more mainstream-wise. But then, mainstream always has ways of destroying talented ARTISTS, w/ exception of a few good ones on the main circuit. Maybe that amplifies the appreciation for her when she's found on the Jazz and "independent" circuits...and by that I mean: people independently find her and, w/o pressured-influence, come to form there own open-minded thoughts and impressions. right?

  • Weeeelll, I DO assume that when someone (comment from another video: beyonce) says that Beyonce's vocal coach made her listen to "Rachelle" for training, that they meant Rachelle Ferrell. WOW! Try that against Minnie Ripperton (another whistle blower, lol). You know, NOT IN vocal Timbre or sound, but more of stylings & technique, I hear both Beyonce....... and (don't kill me) Christina Aguilera. Just in stylings and technique alone- I'm in no way comparing them.

  • she's PERFECT in ANYWAY !

  • Rachelle KILLS Mariah Carey! She is so much more soulful too. There is just no comparison. The only people I would even put on the same level as Rachelle are Chaka Kahn, Ledisi, Anita Baker, Patti Austin and maybe Jill Scott. Ok the reason I say those singers is bcuz they all have the artistry and musicianship as Rachelle, they may not all have the versatility and/or range but they have all mastered their craft and are true musicians (they all also have a jazz influence as well).

  • What about Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills, Patti Labelle, Regina Belle, Teena Marie and Angela Winbush?

  • I mentioned Anita! But I was mainly thinking about the singers that have that crossover jazz influence ! :) You feel me?

  • @captainbryce1 and mariah carry

  • @captainbryce1 can we get the names of each song or performance

  • @olympusman2004 The song list (in order) is already up. Just click the area directly to the left of the number of views for more info.

  • and erykah badu too.

  • Did you know that Rachelle is actually Lesidi's mentor?

  • I think Minni Riperton is on this list too ! Jazz is her roots !

  • @Msredhoney720 Goapele is a better sounding singer than Rachelle.

  • @Msredhoney720 Rachelle is on a level of her own! she is just crazy insane. At first, I was like 'is she the secular twinkie clark?" This woman is just.....i can't even put it in words.

  • @snowman1919 thas exactly what she is. they are neck and neck

  • @Msredhoney720 Don't forget about Teena Marie and Minnie Riperton!!

  • this whistle note is annoyinf after a while...but she is a good vocalist

  • Awesome. Ugly voice???***???. She's one of the best and most beautiful singers on earth!!!!

  • amazing!!! Rachelle has the dopest super head voice similar to mariah's whistle notes but rachelle's are louder and more controlled and can be consistently hit mariah has gone higher but on "accident" Rachelle has true control she's amazing

  • Mariah's whistle is soaring higher just like a bird sound!!

  • Rachelle Ferelle has a pure 5 octive voice. She can sing complete scales in each octive(bass to ultra soprano). What Mariah Carey does is to close her throat and scream to get that 5th octive. But she can't do a scale in it. Rachelle can, easy. I've seen her do it. She calls all of her note bending " vocal gymnastics". There's only a few human beings walking around with the ability to hit a pure 5th octave. Rachelle is on of them. Bar none she's the greatest vocalist living today.

  • you clearly havent listen to all mariahs song because she does go higher !!! and her whistle are very soft and natural,,, on the other hand rachelle sounds like a dying cat,,, not to be mean or anything but her whistle sounds like high pitch squeals,,, and for the record mariah has a 5 1/2 octave range if not more,,,

  • rachelle can blow. no doubt. sometimes it's just like, stop screaming and end the damn song. she has a very complicated way of singing. very much her own. mariah carey is too cutie cutie. she's like a vanity singer. rachelle will get in there and really sing. mariah just gives it what it needs while remaining cute. rachelles voice is more of an instrument. mariah sounds like somebody taught her how to do it. both of them cant sing a line or two in that range. they just ad-lib and hit notes in it

  • @ssaturn

I beg to differ. What she does with her voice is more UNcomplicated. That's why she can do so much more than most other singers.

i.e. it's totally free yet "seated" or "anchored", as I call it.

  • i think if god was to make a person with the most perfect voice its gotta be her i mean she invented the word SKILL its nothing she cant do vocally

  • Very good !

  • This has got to be higher than Mariah!!!

  • no mariah goes higher !!!

  • Have you heard Mariah lately? Live? I heard something very different....

  • OMG....she can go much lower and much higher...

  • amazing doesnt even come close to describing Rachelle's voice.. and she can hold a note...I have loved her since the first time I heard her...she is truly one of the most talented vocalist around

  • this is the best artist ever.

never heared a good strong voice like this, with so many possibilities.

    great.

  • Rachelle is just AMAZING,AWESOME,VOCALLY TALENTED,and ONE OF A KIND. She is the s- - -. Hands down!!!!!!!

  • 1:05-1:17 - whistle with vibrato! Holy cow!

  • Adam Lopez can also use vibratto in WR.

    watch?v=liHUohbntQU&feature=related

  • what are u talkin about she can whistly her ass off

  • Its been proven NO ONE can come close to this theres not enough words todescribe this womans talent if you get a chance to see her in concert you will get more than your monies worth,no price is too high for this kind of talent

  • Rachelle is THE BOMB! There isn't any female jazz vocalist that I've heard in the last 35 years that I think even comes close. Too bad more people can't appreciate her truly phenomenal talents. Queen of Jazz, no doubt about it!

  • I CAN I CAN I CAN...FOR THE ENDING

  • Rachelle Ferrell is way underrated as a vocalist, singer and artist. She has a phenominal vocal instrument. There is no one TODAY that can sing like her. NO ONE. Rachelle will put Christina Aguilera in the water with her s t r o n g vocal abilities. Hands Down!

  • I guess you're right . . .but I just hate when ppl sing the same note for half a minute. It's annoying as hell, especially whn it's whistling.

  • You have a point. But in Rachelle's case it's more vocal instrumental artistry almost like Minnie Riperton if you know what i mean.

  • And I thought Christina Aguilera oversung a lot . :/

  • Rachelle doesnt over sing. itz jazz music.. itz limitless wthout boundz! u sing where the music takez u. kinda like catching a musical holyghost.

  • @RAWKEE I love this -- "kinda like catching a musical holyghost". It says it so perfectly.

  • I first heard Rachelle Thru a guy friend of mine. I told Him I am a lover of FINE R &B Music. Being only 18.And telling him I love Gladys Knight. Patyy Minnie, Aretha wow I can go on for days. At that time I should have been lovin moniqa. or Mary J. But this women right here was incredible to me then and now. My first song I heard from here was The one with Will Downing

This is R &B With a SMACK OF Jazz at its best

  • wat song is dat at 0:46?

  • With Open Arms

  • The song is titled ''With Open Arms""

  • I think this woman can communicate with DOLPHINS DAMN THIS IS CRAZY I AM FOREVER A FAN!! And if you haven't seen her life you are missing out!

  • MARIAH CAN'T SING LIKE THAT!!!!!! Yeah i said it.Yes i did.

  • THANK GOD

  • Hell Yeah!! Neither can Whitney, Chaka,.......Patti has the tools but not the temperament.

  • @DEEDUBB1979 u got that right

  • @DEEDUBB1979 OKAY RACHELL WILL SIT HER DOWN EVEN TODAY!!! LOL

  • @jetit....You know the rules. LOL

  • 1:06 she cracked.

  • WHAT???

  • @jeremiaheliseo she didnt crack.. she was imitating a flute. smh....

  • Better than a lot of whistlers :)! Better than Mariah definitely!

  • The song at 1:05 is AUTUMN LEAVES!!Even tho her voice cracks at the beginning, listen to how she adds vibrato to it,she is AMAZING!!MY BABY!!Ive met her & shes very sweet also!!!!

  • OMG?..

can su1 give to us her exact range?

  • I'm not sure her exact range because I don't have that instrument. But she has recorded notes in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th octaves so her range has to be somewhere between 5 and 6 octaves. Of course that's only her recordings. She may have the potential to go even higher or lower than that in real life.

  • If I had the skills she had, Goddamn I would be vicious!

  • JESUS!!!!! What a voice!!!!!

    1000 THANKS FOR THAT SOUNDCOLLAGE.

    i LOVE IT !!!!

    wERNER

  • what is that at 1:05

  • I think her voice just craked there when she was going for the note. Sounds like her throat wasn't "wet" enough when she started the note. That happens to me sometimes and even with professional singers especially when people are going up into their whistle register.

  • i so want her to come to bmore this summer for jazzy summer nights @ hopkins plaza

  • impressive @ 1:22 and 2:04!!!

  • shes amazing wow!

  • Jesus, the duration of those notes! I love her voice

  • Good! She has some nice whistle notes & she can actually hold them for a long time! She has talent, and I agree: she's underrated!

By the way, check out Yma Sumac & Ellen Beach Yaw, they're fantastic singers and they hit C7 (Yma) & D7 (Ellen) in head voice, without using whistle register. With practice & technique, D7 can be sung by a high soprano.

  • I definitely like Yma Sumac, but I haven't heard of Ellen Beach. So, I'll definitely take a listen! I don't understand why everyone thinks that Yma uses the whistle register in 'Chuncho', though.

  • "I don't understand why everyone thinks that Yma uses the whistle register in 'Chuncho', though."

Because they're morons who can't tell the difference between whistle register and head voice, or they're just trying to piss off the other people. However, one cannot switch from head voice to whistle register because there's no connection between them. Plus the sounds are produced in a completely different way, obviously. If you'd do that with your own throat, you'd understand what I mean. :)

  • In a perfect world Rachelle Ferrell would be as famous as Whitney and Mariah, and revered as a musical genius up there with Aretha. I hate that such a talented woman like this doesn't get the respect she deserves. Perhaps because the music she does now and her style of singing (while unique may seem too idiosyncratic to seem) is so ANTI-mainstream for people to understand, it's hard to embrace after decades of brainwashing from the sap you get from MTV/BET, but the woman is a true original.

  • it sounds like your trying to say anything mainstream is bad.....

  • wat is the name of the song at 1:22?

  • "I Know You Love Me" From her first self titled CD.

  • thanks!

  • Talented isnt the word for this woman!

  • One of the most underrated singers on the planet!

  • Without a doubt. Wow. Shes better than Mariah ever was.

  • She has an amazing voice. She's singing in a jazz style which youre obviously unfamiliar with because all you seem to care about is mainstream pop i.e Leona Lewis. Be open minded. Artistically and technically Rachelle will sing Leona and Mariah (especially current Mariah) under the table. Learn about jazz and blues dont come and criticise when you know only of pop.

  • You say that and yet your favourites are mostly made up of pop artists. Of course her music wouldnt make sense to someone used to Mariah singing about drinking champagne and touching her body. Your youtube name isnt fooling anyone. Her full voice far from sounds robotic. She has a beautiful velevety smooth tone, her whistle register is extensive and her runs are fluid and creative. There is a difference between not liking the sound of a voice and between them not being a good singer. Learn that

  • 2scoopz you better tell ''these people'' what's up. I've bought Rachelle's first cd titled ''Somethin' Else"" back in 1990. Rachelle Ferrell is in my opinion the last great Jazz/R&B singer around today. She is very underrated yet appreciated by her fans. Leona Lewis is overrated. Mariah has lost her touch even though she could never find her nich. Being lazy with her singing. She sounded bad at Michael Jackson's Memorial Service. Trey Lorenz was the one who bailed helped her out again.

  • No voice? You're crazy dude. So do you think Patti Labelle, Stephanie Mills, Regina Bell and Anita Baker have "no voice" either?

  • These are not her highest whistle notes, she can go higher, but doesnt usually. She usually prefers to hold the note for eternity than to go to her highest. If you hear her highest notes, it's ridiculous, and past the piano.

  • Georgia Brown can hit notes like, she has the world record for the highest note ever done

  • Georgia Brown has the most amazing range out, but when shes not using her whistle register and is just singing straight, im not impressed.

  • Georgia brown is an omega level whistle singer. Her singing voice is not so impressive because she sounds so foreighn. She has an ok singing voice. Her accent turns people off when she sings.

  • Omega level? Lmao. Do you read X-men?

  • Hehe.........................Of course. Rachelle ferrell is an unconfirmed but possible omega whistle singer. She goes as high as mariah! :)

  • Lol. Id say Mariah and Rachelle are definitely alphas. Theyre powerful but they dont share the same unlimited potential. Why have you got me talking like this? Lmao

  • JAHAHA!!! Actually with mariah having those bumps on her throat it has taken away some of her top whistles from all in your mind. So rachelle still has all her whistles as she has taken extra extra care of her voice.

  • lol, i just saw you on a alexzandra burke video.

  • same with rachelle dahling ;)

  • Lol no way. An omega whistler would be Georgia Brown. Far bigger whistle range.

  • Also I think Rachelle might have entered the 8th octave.

Check out 5_34. She hits it for a second

  • wow she is can really hit them notes!

  • I must say she is an incredible singer, some of her highest notes are rather ugly, but overall her voice is fantastic.

  • wow!!!!!!!

  • Can anyone name a chic in the game that can do what she does?HEEEEELLLL NAW!now adays all you need is a beat, talk bout ya azz and all that other bullshit and u got a record deal.Rachelle teach these non talented toddlers what it's really about.

  • my ears... :)

  • There's nothing to be said... the video speaks for itself.. That's why she's the baddest!!!

  • you go Ms.Rachelle!!!!

  • Somebody needs to do an exact vocal range of her, this is great thou, nice vid

  • Thanks. This was my first video ever though, so I'm kind of new at this.

  • Yup, its great, and I wasn't really asking u to do it, I was just posting that, just in case someone who does specifically do vocal range videos, might in hope do one for Rachelle Ferrell

  • her reps have stated before that she has a 6 octave range...I estimate its more like 5. She can sing very low (f2 Live), as well as the high notes she displays here (her highest is E7 at the begining).

  • Oh ok, thank you. What do u think her voice type is? Some say she's a Contralto with Coloratura abilities.

  • i would say she definately is a contralto with coloratura ablilties. her voice is very deep and she can sing in the 2nd octave with ease, but she can also utilize whistle to take her to and past soprano high c. her voice is flexible like a coloratura soprano, but the timbre of her voice is definatley that of a contralto.

  • Why thank you, appreciate the information

  • Her natural voice is 100% soprano. She has a light, beatiful natural voice that can go into the skies. However, she has mastered how to sing strong low notes, even to the point of sounding like a man when she chooses. She does this a lot when she goes into low notes, because her voice is versatile and her training has made her very versatile, however her normal voice is light and high. She is a first soprano.

  • Well from what I hear she's a contralto with coloratura abilities. Maybe even a Soprano sfogato, and imma leave it at that.

  • Comment removed

  • what performance is the f2?

    I think the lowest I heard is a A2-Bb2.

  • i believe it was in "with open arms". shes hit very low notes in the studio as well. I need a better tuner or a piano to really be completely accurate, but I picked up f2 breifly in that performance.

  • thanks. ill check it out :)

  • WOWOWOW INCREIBLE RANGO Y CONTROL

  • I agree! naturally :)
