  • He looks like the old Xmen movie and realize a Xman act ! Great men !

  • currently its just some booster on a glider, it need the capability to take off from ground. Can't wait for the years to come.

  • Yves served as a fighter pilot in the Swiss Air Force, flying Dassault Mirage IIIs, Northrop F-5 Tiger IIs and Hawker Hunters. He flew Boeing 747s for Swissair. As of 2008, he was flying for Swiss International Air Lines

  • pure freedom, the true essence of life....

  • Someone please send this to the Wright Brothers.

  • just imagine if we could buy these in dealerships

    what a dream

  • To Infinity and Beyond!

Seriously though, it would be cool if this could be turned into a spectator sport. Might become the new macho testosterone sport, ahead of IndyCar racing. That would help to evolve the technology faster, too. I can picture the Goodyear blimp over a stadium/field, with a bunch of these jet-men jumping out and zooming around, to kick off the jet-men games.

  • What do people who have experienced this kind of adrenaline dream about? Going to work? Is flying this a job?

  • This is just the beginning of flight, up and down with jetspeed. Sooner, they are going to build an Iron Man suit for Yves Rossy -Iron Man. No more Jet Man.

  • dear santa......

  • You know, without all of the press coverage, he could have used this to become a superhero.

  • You are going to die doing that crazy shit.

  • Well, if one could level around silent – or with that soft music in ones ears – it would be real OK!

  • I wish I was him, the wildest dream of my life is to fly.

  • problem real life superheroes?

  • Fuck yeah. Sound barrier is possible. There was a free fall guy who did it up high in the sky.

  • 能不能試玩一下!

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

  • 125 mph

  • COOL !!

  • how fast it is?

  • BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!! to infinity and beyond!

  • OMFG it's ACE MCLOUD from the CENTURIONS!

  • This looks very cool ! Has he broken the sound barrier yet ?

  • @yynnmmbb No chance of this ever breaking the sound barrier. He can't really go much more than 200mph. The speed of sound (at sea level) is about 750mph.

  • @yynnmmbb Um, how old are you? Have you ever asked yourself what would happen to the human body if exposed to even 500mph air flow? Air feels like a brick once you get into the upper hundreds. As a pre-teen, I understood the nature of the air I breath pretty well. If you did, you wouldn't have asked that question lol.

It's a very ignorant and moronic idea to suggest any limbed creature be exposed to raw airspeeds that high without the protection of an encased rigid structure for support.

  • The song in the starting is Sevastopol, by Moby. Like this comment so everyone gets to know!

  • Would anyone be so kind as to name the song that plays at the beginning of the video. If it is a moby song could someone please name it? it fits the video perfectly. great mixture of energy and emotion

  • @limericksan The song's name is Sevastopol, by Moby.

  • No chance of Yves getting his wings burnt like Icarus, what a piece of kit.

The views must be amazing although he must have balls of steel to enjoy it!

  • This is something I saw on Roadrunner.Wild e coyote assembling one of his gadgets from the ACME co. Also something I would envision as a young kid..truly awesome... mankind has evolved technologically in the last 20 years at amazing speeds literally..just imagine the technology that the military is withholding from the mainstream..timetraveling will someday be a reality..

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!! make this device commercial - with buyers needing certifications and licensing. scrap the porsche i been wantin' to buy - i'm flyin' solo. Rossy is GOD!

  • Invention of the very creativity

Will change the face of the world in

    Tourism

    Smuggling

    Wars

    And much much more

  • This invention has some serious military applications. (= He will be well funded)

  • He should take off from a platform on a drag racer on that's an aircraft carrier. And drop aid packages. I give him a B for effort, C+ for attainment.

  • Somebody (@SantaClaus), gift me this on Christmas !

  • The first time in my life that I feel I've been wasting my time for all these years that I've been liven and still living the waste. TIME FOR SOME CHANGES IN MY LIFE!

  • This iz ultimate cool. I want a jet pack once there available for consumers.

  • this is my bucket list

  • harry potter must be sitting somewhere with his broomstick and fuming, saying "muggles!" :P

  • this is bananas!

  • Stand up! EVERYONE GET UP! Something this amazing requires an immediate standing ovation. Hell, I'm in a wheelchair & even I stood up...thanks to this man we may all be not just on our own two feet on solid ground but up in the sky! I read about the news when he crossed the English Channel, I saw him a few months ago briefly in a video which recorded one of his flights, and now I finally get to hear from him in detail. Every time I am amazed at the technology. We're all going to be flying! YES!

  • I'm sure this guy going to be A new history in the future

  • INCREDIBLE!!!!! INCREDIBLE!!! INCREDIBLE!!!

Yves Rossy is not only courageous but looks great too!

I would love to do this too.

  • I can't belived)

  • super)

  • is it a bird? is it a plane? no, it's a fucking jetman

  • BALLS OF STEEL!!!

  • "Being an integral part of the fuselage, he steers the wing using his cast iron balls."

  • he'd better look left and rigtht in the traffic lights

  • Now...is the the hero or the villain?

  • G.I. joe did this YEARS ago hahahahaha

  • the dream of everyone, fly !

  • Amazing!!!

  • What Moby song is playing at the beginning?

  • @MrNMertens

    'Sevastopol'

  • My shoes are on fire. My SHOES are on FIRE!

  • I knew Bus Lightyear wasn't just a toy!

  • Cool~

  • Pilot Wings 64 IRL

  • like a boss

  • 13 people afraid of heights

  • iron man?

  • Dman that commentater was scared... "The wing is open the wing is open so our first critical moment it-it's open... is he flying...?" 3:50 listen to it a few times and you'll laught your ass off.

  • Thunbs up if you thought Jet MAn was gonna die at 3:50...

  • Ok awesome. But what's with the fake lens flare at 02:35 really?

  • Price ?

  • Price tag

  • Eat your heart out Rocketeer.

  • anybody playes the game withthe penguin? veeeeery similar but this isi real :)!!!!!!!

  • how the fuck does he land?

  • @tahshin1601 He deploys a parachute.

  • @tahshin1601 parachute

  • He talks like Sasha Baron-Cohen in Talladega Knights.

  • He talks like Sasha Baron-Cohen in Talladega Knights.

  • I made a much mroe areodynamic model when I was 10, it could even retract into a normal looking backpack, too bad I didn't know about carbon-fiber...

  • Yeah!!! What I want for Christmas!!!

  • and here i though that wingsuit was crazy.. jetman is insane! i want one for christmas :D

  • mark 1.

  • so thats whats causing chemtrials

  • @goodvibes03 haha

  • Most inventions are "toys for the rich" until they become democratized...

  • ✈ da na nana nana jet mannnn ✈

  • So because a kid starves in Somalia the rest of the world should stop progressing?

  • Meanwhile, a child in Somalia starves to death.

  • @manonthemount I fail to see how these two scenarios are connected in even the vaguest of ways.

  • "Vive le Ironman!"

  • Dear Santa, send @pyr666 this piece of poop, instead of this awesome wing.

  • What if he had a split personality and he hijacked himself...

  • First song name,anyone?

  • I need to be able to like this more.

  • The real Rocketeer.

  • So this is what the humans will to defeat the skies has brought us. Amazing.

  • Yes, sad this will be soon put for military use just like all the other great invations of humanity that where first developed for the greater good.

  • @vo0sto0 Actually, many, many innovations were originally made for defense and were later adapted for the greater good.

  • wow lol what a total boss

  • Schwiiz <3

  • Dear Santa....

  • 5:02 ;)

  • Id sell one kidney, one eye and half a lung for one "toy" like this.

  • Buzz Light Year ftw!

  • I want one!!!!!!!

  • Do this stuff and die, you are a quickly forgotten fool, but if you live, you get to tell the world on TED... ya gotta love the human drive!

  • 0:15 don't folks remember what this means? It means you can skip the obnoxiously loud intro of TED talks. It means that TED doesn't listen to people's complaints about it.

  • now he just needs some hi-tech roller blades to land ;)

  • dear santa,

  • I want one.

  • this will revolutionise commuting

  • and all for only $20 a month

  • I would have preferred subtitles and jet man's first language.

  • The Swiss Guard Air Patrol. Keeping the Pope safe from 3,000 ft up.

    Just a thought.

  • I would sell all my non-vital organs and bits of organs if it would mean I could get my hand on one of these.

  • @FoxKnightJ07 but how would you fly it then?

  • @RasdenFasden A lung, a kidney, some surplus intestine and a bit of my liver aren't really going to cause any problems in that regard.

  • passport?

  • IS THAT A BIRD!? No! IT"SA PLANE! NO! Holy cow feces, I THINK IT"SA MAN!?

  • Brilliant, but I think I still want the japanese personal helicopter more than this.

  • lately this channel looks like an infomercial channel instead of TED

  • @nachoijp An infomercial for freakin' awesome innovative stuff! :D

  • @nachoijp so true ...astute pick up

  • Was anyone else reminded of that 80's cartoon The Centurions?

  • @MarkArandjus Power Extreme!!

  • Comment removed

  • "...many people have died trying this...". He's the ultimate in overcoming adversity.

  • but will it blend?

  • i believe i can fly

  • Right now, I'm GREEN with envy (shame on me!).

  • USA = police state!

  • @pixelr0 every state is a police state ;)

  • I wonder when people will begin the commitment to solar design rather than fossil fuel design... especially in new vehicles for fun

  • @gaiagale

    I wish.

whenever they stop being whipped by currency maybe.

  • @xjustamem0ryx ...I hold the vision too ...I'm thinking that if design commitment has anything to do with currency it could be more a habit or a simple as it is what they are used to the idea of fossil fuel for fun/fantastic follies (fun with alliteration) perhaps I'll stop myself there

that aside thanks for making time to respond to my comment

  • @gaiagale when solar energy can provide more than just a tenth of what fossil fuel does.

  • @Nyocurio ...the sun provides freely more energy in one day than all of our invented designs put together do (i forget the ratio but it is astounding)

any ways that aside thanks for responding to my comment

  • @gaiagale It doesn't matter how much the sun provides. What matters is how much of it "solar energy systems" can harvest.

  • @Nyocurio true enough ...yet the solar energy is there to be harvested ...just for fun ;-])

hence the obvious question ...why have we accepted (or perhaps we've settled for) the "...just a tenth of... " story ...

  • @gaiagale You can stop trolling now.

  • @Nyocurio trolling?!?...what an odd thing to type...

and I thought we were having an intelligent conversation (albeit virtual)

    oh well

  • @gaiagale "why have we accepted only 10%?" ... ?

like wtf do you mean. billions are spent on scientists and engineers around the whole world who in turn are spending years worth of research just to increase THAT rate by some few percent, and that's still considered a huge break-through. Do you have any idea at all what you're even talking about?

  • @gaiagale - When people start talking about it in relevant places and not "jetman" videos, most likely.

  • @TheSpankymonkey thanks for responding ...we have been talking about making the committment for years ...that's just it ...i'm curious what do you consider "relevant places" ?

    respect

  • @gaiagale - Plenty of solar energy advocacy groups around and websites to discuss solar energy. The main stem of the problem is that you simply can't outperform fossil fules at the moment, Not in long term costs to satisfy the required investments etc. Sure on paper a lot of them can but they often don't factor in a lot of other costs such as the environmental costs, legal costs, land costs etc. You would be very suprised at just how much progress is being made on it globally, if you looked.

  • @TheSpankymonkey interesting comment ...I am aware of some of the progress moreover I consider this one of the "relevent places" ...incidently are the "jetman" people "factor in a lot of other costs such as the environmental costs, legal costs, land costs etc." in this "fun" project? ...are the fossil fuel harvesters?

There is little that is new here except the steering ...Y.R. explains how he uses his body(with air potentiality) to steer because a mechanical system would only add weight

  • @gaiagale - Well it's hardly relevant is it, solar energy has nothing to do with this video and even if you made an extremely tenuous link you still wouldn't be able to get from this to solar energy. As for the costs of this project, i doubt this was really a factor (other than his own personal limits) when he began doing it, much like a lot of hobbyists, though i am sure you will find more people that will attempt this type of project than solar energy, simply for the fun factor.

  • @TheSpankymonkey every thing is relevant especially solar and wind energy when one decides they want to fly

I agree in that I am sure 'we' "will find more people that will attempt this type of project than ..., simply for the fun factor." ...yet I stand by my first comment in fact now that I think about it the solar solution eliminates the weight of fuel ;-])

  • @gaiagale that only would work during the day or not overly cloudy its not overly practical for this application, though a better fuel source would be better such as fusion or fission

  • @onyo101 fair enough ...fair weather flying sounds awesome to me after all this is "fun" according to Rossy

  • @gaiagale it would still be but even on a clear day there may still be a few clouds in the sky or a storm or a cloud front could sneak up on you and then it would be unsafe if you had a power loss a few hundred to thousand feet up not a fun landing

  • @onyo101 thats what the parachute is for! ;)

  • @gaiagale

when it becomes the least bit practical.

  • Can I have one of these please...

  • The Ironman suit can happen

  • @rowenarrow before i even seen the video i thumbed up your link.

  • I want one!

  • What could the USA military use this for I wonder? What is the payload? They alreay have drones I suppose...

  • See this is the problem with those sciency engineering types. They want to play God. Flight is God's territory. Step off, alright, pal? You aren't supposed to be flying, you heathen!

  • could it be the ancient aliens ... ?

  • 00:15

  • o.o i want one..

  • he remind me Ace McCloud from The Centurions in the 80s cartoon

  • CLOUDFUCKER SUPREME!

  • Genius

  • I am sure the army would find this interesting.

  • thats an awesome way to commit suicide

  • i read jetsons for some reason when clicking this

  • POWER Extreme eme eme eme !!

  • running takeoff or gtfo

  • I think we're seeing the birth of a new extreme sport, fuck hand gliding, give me mah jetpack! :D

  • @SpiffyHarry *Hang gliding. Unless you're talking about some "dolphin hand" activity.

  • @Lundix

Oh right... I meant hang gliding... It's one of those terms I've said wrong since I was a kid, old habits die hard... Like pronouncing the L in salmon :P
