  • what a crap review - "I think it's a tweeter" "I think it's a mon pod not sure"

  • i need some help, i have had these on my MAC for 18 months and they just stopped functioning. i get a base vibe when i crank it up and i tested my main cable, its not defective. speakers must be ok as i never really crank them. i have the companion 3 series, 2 hooked up and all i get is the computer speakers playing. i powered down the computer and nothing seems to work. is there a setting i'm missing?

  • I've had this system for several years and the sound is great. I only wish it was more versatile so I can hook it up to my tv if I wanted to. I dont want to purchase a separate system for the tv.

  • I have this model for 2 years now hooked up to my computer, watching movie or listening to movie is amazing, really high quality. When i listen to sound from other cheaper makes, i can tell the money on the bose was worth it

  • I just got these and they are awful. hoping they will bed in a little. standard bose sound with all bass and treble. fine if you spend your life in nightclubs. They are probably going back though.

  • @trialsted i totally disagree. The sound quality per buck is astonishing. Im not a bose fan i prefer my yam stuff but i got these after i heard them at my mates. I use these with my macbook yet ive tried systems twice the price and they annoyed me with the bass and treble sounding like they were on +11. One gripe was that the stereo cable needed replacing because of a break near the connector. I replaced it with a top notch aftermarket job and its been faithfull for 6yr.

  • This sub on half volume makes the downstairs lights vibrate in my house!! When I have it downstairs you can hear the front door vibrate. Amazing quality of sound, Definitely worth the money! Don't waste your money on cheaper brands.

  • the sound is pretty damn impressive ... awesome control i think they call it "puck control" or something

  • Put the bass on the ground ! Then you get good bass

  • Why are people still buying this overprice POS? You're paying for the Brand Name BOSE not for the quality. BOSE was good 20yrs ago but not anymore.

  • @asia911 Agreed, bud! Bose is shit.. Although I did buy this unit, and have it sitting in the box right now. I am stepping down from the legend Logitech Z-5500 but I personally wanted the Corsair SP-2500 over this POS.. Ultimately, it came down to availability. wow.. Limey's are annoying!? :o

  • i'm watching this video with the same speaker! haha

  • Really helpful, confirmed my thoughts just before I purchase some of my own :)

  • how do they perform with classical music?

  • @Mr3121996 really well actually! :-)

  • Does this speaker come with drivers? how do you control the base level?

  • @SiaSound There is a knob on the back of the Sub...

  • Thanks for the honest review.

  • Showcasing a high spec speakerset thru a compressed video on YT :-/ I'm doubting what to replace my Logitech set with, but I wasn't too impressed with the cheap feel of the Bose satellites, especially seeing what you'd pay for a set.

  • My Logitech Z-2300 can probably do the same >.<

  • @Wiejeben probably.....

  • DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU COULD CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER TO THE BACK OF THE BOSE COMPANION 3 WITH AN AUXILIRY CABLE

  • Bose makes a great product.

  • got these 3 weeks ago i think? not disapointed at all, great buy.

  • how many watts does this speakers have?

  • I have the second generation Harman Kardonn (can never spell them) 2.1 speaker set. I would give them an easy 8 and have had them for 30 months now but I need the absolute best sound for my apartment. Does the sound somehow justify the fact that this costs almost double? I mean how much of a difference in percentage can I expect? I am all about Indie music and never listen to rap unless I'm watching Entourage.

  • @spaceydecember okay if you want a perfect sound BOSE is the only way to go, the price will be worth the quality, and besides, you can always go to a bose store or best buy and test them out, but seriously they are ineradicable, i bought a car and they now have 12 speaker systems, i got mine custom with BOSE instead of dolby digital or whatever the default is, now my friends ride in my car only because the sound is just magical

  • @polzowatel Thanks for the reply, I think I'm going to save up for a month or two and get these bad boys when I can justify the price to myself. I shall probably go to a BEST BUY location though I'm allergic to places of those kinds.

  • @polzowatel Thanks for the reply, I think I'm going to save up for a month or two and get these bad boys when I can justify the price to myself. I shall probably go to a BEST BUY location though I'm allergic to places of those kinds.

  • @spaceydecember lol yeah, go to a bose store instead then to stay focused :D

  • hey mitch, are these speakers good for listening to electronica music such as dubstep or deep bass music???

  • @GieraryHirr good question, thats why im looking for new speakers hah, my scrub speakers cant handle bassnectars drops

  • @xXbrzXx unless you already made your mind. I think the Bose Companion 3 are awesome!

  • @xXbrzXx its funny because i just made up my mind and im ordering them today

  • @GieraryHirr I Have one.. they r amazing for any music

  • @GieraryHirr Oh...YEAH!

  • @GieraryHirr yes

  • @GieraryHirr yeah beatbox aol vive, and

    yess psytrance wow

  • @GieraryHirr

ive just got these now (my mum bought me them as ive been wanting speakers for ages) but i listen to deep bass music like jump up dnb style etc etc ... did you find out if theyre actually decent?

  • @bemzz surely if you have them you will know what they sound like?

  • @trialsted

i didnt bother opening the box until i got more opinions on them in case they sucked cos tbh i want a phatty rig in my room not some little speakers...

  • @GieraryHirr

    >dubstep

    mah nigga

  • i have those and im listening this review from those speakers. haha

  • really cant decide between these or the logitech z 2300! anyone help?

  • @MegaJAYBEE93 no, your retarded...

  • speakers has to be equals to bose sound quality. as for the speakers being wired. i think they needed to be longer but i have no problem with that. its better with wires than having to deal with batteris all the dam time. as for the front oudio jacks they are fine wheere they are at. not all have freakin long cables for headphoness. the popin sound thats from your computer.

  • Companion 3 gots an amzing sound quality and clarity that cant be done by others only with 7 or 5 rs

  • i have Companion 5 but i wanna change for Companion 3 as the module bass is too big for the 5.

  • The companion 3 speakers suck! I'm returning mine today! Way over priced for how they sound. I crank them up all the way and they sound worse then a pair of cheap book shelf speakers. The louder they get the less the bass.

  • yeah man how u gonna play the music for like 2 seconds and talk the whole time.. wtf.

  • put the fucking music, to mutch bla bla bla

  • I figure by now you realise the audio jack is on the back. If it was wireless I'd be forever needing batteries. As for the cables, if you had the sub set up under your desk with the speakers either side of your monitor, you'd barely see any wires. The i-pod audio jack on the sound control unit is great for easy access. I did have some problems with sound, but it was my connection. Also the "gay" cable supplied only seems poor quality due to the length, which is necessary for a sub.

  • whats the power it puts out..i have the logiech z2300 with bose 201 speaker hook up to it, and it sound and loud with lots bass too and has 200 rms wattts .400 watts max. but like to try this bose sytem

  • I bought one today and it sounds great, obviously not as good as the companion 5 but this thing sounds very clear and crisp. I highly recommend it!

  • What if I buy a splitter for the computer input in the back of the subwooofer? Would I be able to hook up to devices?

  • i did replace the audio cord when I got these but i know that it is common flaw with some apple macs that they have problem with there 3.5mm output. i tested it with one of my friends imac.

  • Bose is cheap overpriced equipment that sounds like shit, hell for the Bose or BLOSE cost compare to a different audio company you could get way better and WAY WAY better sound

  • I played with this system at Target today. It sounded decent, but the sub, which is like two feet deep and ten inches wide, should be able to shake windows for the size and price. There is a decent thump, but there should be a lot more. I would buy this system if it were about $100-150 less than what it is.

  • Guys, I have a macbook pro and im ready to buy a high end sound system. But I dont know which one to get. I dont want those cheap plastic speakers, you know it? I was thinking about getting the bose, but i think theyre overpriced. What other high end speakers are better than this system? I watch movies, listen to music and play games. I want a 2.1 or even a 5.1 system. Please someone help me

  • @icdp For base:Hi end system has nothin to do with mp3,IPod,computers,2.1 or 5.1(unless you will use 5.1 stereo sacd system)For low budget but good sounding setup be prepared to give 300-500$ for loudspeakers, the same for preamplifier, amplifier and cd player.Don't trust reviews too much, specialy hifi magazine ones-they're payed to write only best.Anything you buy first listen!Every ear like something differend. What i like, you may not. Go for vintage hifi 1970-1985-cheaper way to ''hi end''

  • for any one who was interested in these speakers there is a aux plug in the back of the bass to go into your computer the one on the pod is an extra plug for and ipod or other hook up.

  • sounds like you're from london

  • i am not sure weather or not to get those or the logitech z2300

  • what`s the differrent between Companion 3 and 5 ?? apart of USB and the design

  • @TheMan3522

    The price.

  • @TheMan3522 The Companion 5 has virtual surround sound and slightly better audio quality.

  • those sound shitty comin out of my phone

  • I know one is for headphones but the other one with an arrow going into the circle

  • I'm not sure if you mentioned it in the video, but my parents were talking right behind me and i wasnt 100% listening. But what do you plug into the other hole on the touch mute thingy?? Cheers

  • lot of people be hatin on bose!

  • I'm using these speakers as i watch this video :P I love them

  • Thump! Sizzle!

  • lets say i have a monitor no desktop can i hook these speakers to the monitor and play xbox ?

  • haha that is not a big sub but iv heard it its good

  • im inlove with my bose companion 2 and a 12inch nuance sub :D

  • I tested this one, and the Companion 2 one at future shop it it sounded alot better than the Companion 3 and it was cheaper! I have the Companion 2 pair for 3 years now.. I also got cats, so multiple times Ive awaken to see my speakers hanging of the side of my desk by its wire! They still sound amazing, and there still like brandnew! Well worth the $150 10-fold!

  • The computer input is on the back of the subwoofer. The input on the monopod is for a second device such as an iPod.

  • a little solution to your cable problem. there is an audio jack in the back of the subwoofer right above the volume control jack that you can plug the connecting cable in to without routing it through the volume pod itself.

  • I bought these yesterday and they're amazing. The 'subwoofer' is true bass, unlike the bass you see with subs in alot of cars

  • i almost got these today 199.99 thought i would do a bit of research

  • @lestube001 i would have paid the same at my local best buy, but i got staff discount :)

  • It has to much tweak

  • You would have seriously benifitted if you would have bought the cheaper Logitech Z-2300's which are much better than these. Or even, with a bit more money, the Z-5500's.

The BOSE product you have is extremely overpriced for what it is, and a total rip off. I would expect those to cost about £100 max, and that's being generous.

  • I got Bose Companion 5

    They are really good

    BEst speakers in the world!

  • nice one. i like these speakers but they are a bit pricey like you mentioned. how would these compare with the Logitech Z-2300 or the Z-5500?

    thanks for the review

  • Holy shit I have those exact speakers setup right now these speakers are the motherfuckin bomb trust me they are better than the logitech setup I had b4.

  • HI GUYS/GIRLS!

I got my companion 3's the other day after having the 5's before. One problem: THE BASS IS 'BOOMEY' and irregular any one have this idea??? andy yea i got that damn humming the other day too......Some thing to do with static i think, because when i grounded the heat sink briefly it went away.......Im an electronic engineer and i have no other solution.. Power in europe is pretty clean i think.

But the speakers are great otherwise(although my neighbour hates the bass haha)

  • Awesome review, that has just helped me. You should be on commission, will be buying them tomorrow. Nice one dude.

  • How do you connect these to your mac

  • @thepretol true dat!

bad review, i hav these and they are awesome, all my friends r jealous.

and yea input is also at the back (blind reviewer). the front is 4 mic i think. BASS IS AWESOME!!!!

  • Are your friends professional technical writers? And what's the reference speakers they used to compare these to?

I have friends too, and they pretty much agree with everything I say too. What does that have to do with anything?

  • yes my friend is Bachelor in music, he says they r good. he did all sorts of funny tests with em. i was like meh, nice bass lol!

  • Listen dude. You don't seem to get it. I'm not criticizing the speakers. I'm actually considering those speakers. I'm criticizing this video review in which this schmuck mumbles meaningless stuff when describing the speakers, and then has the "wisdom" to play something for us through the speakers (as if we can judge the sound when listening to them on youtube).

  • ok dude. wateva.

  • Is there a difference between the companion 3 or the 5

  • yes, there is. have you heard of google? Try it

  • Hey guys, ive been looking for speakers for my macbook pro for a long time. I want a 2.1 or 4.1 (or even 5.1 maybe), but i dont know what to get. Are these bose speakers the best? i want something with good quality. What about the logitech z4's? someone help please

  • laptop soundcards (generally) output only stereo. If you want 4.1 or 5.1, you need speakers with built-in DD decoder (and it'll only work for encoded material: dvd's only). In other words, you need to do a lot of research, and figure if that's what you want. I'd stick with 2.1.

  • they have a sick bass can't complain, one of the best i've ever heard, but there is always a catch; medium frequencies from around 150-400 hz sound terrible, like form a metal tube or something...

and next disappointing thing is this dynamic EQ and volume control, when i played a fps game it sometimes reduces the volume out of nowhere and you get one speaker louder than another. Not good for fps games seriously..

Maja says they're great though but i say she's wrong. lol

    :d

  • Not a bad review but you should show the back of the speakers and bass module so people can see the connections it offers. Also the other accessories that come with this set.

I work with Bose daily and they are a great computer speaker, however I would never get them for my home theater mains.

There's MUCH better speakers for serious listeners. Not too mention the Bose price is just silly.

In my opinion these are in the top 5 if not the top 3 units I have seen for computer 2.1 speakers.

  • razer mako pwns this speakers....

  • I have a question. Can I hook these speakers to a T.V? Anyone? thanks.

  • yes, but you need an adapter. the input into the bose is a 1/8", so you'll beed male 1/8" to female RCA adapter

  • Comment removed

  • Listened to these a couple of years back in a Bose store after a work colleague recommended them when he saw me browsing the internet for some new 2.1 speakers for my PC.

I went and had a listen over the weekend, then on Monday morning I asked him if he was taking the piss. For the price Bose were charging, I couldn't tell any difference from my budget £50 Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers.

Suffice to say, I stuck with Altec Lansing for my upgrade and happily went with their magnificent FX6021.

  • nice one m8 :P

  • @1980Grafik There is no difference Bose just cost more.

  • This is the only in-focus review of these speakers dude. lol.

Not sure if I like them though.

Ohh, and I've never asked. What camera do you use for these reviews. I could do with a decent one for my own videos and the quality is great on your vids!

    Cheers! MRR.

  • ive been having it for one year,,,,and theyre amazing...totally rule when im playing crysis wars,, crysis,, and crysis warhead....totaly awsome ...bad thing is that they are pricey....but if you have the money highly recomemded..

  • are they compatible for ps3 and xbox?

  • simply plug the 3,5mm jack into the audio jack of the console and you´re good to go.

  • Is it compatible with the PS3?

  • yes

  • Definitely buying this one then, thanks

  • The connection to the computer is at the back of the sub woofer. I just got these today and hooked it up to the back. Just check for me.

  • Just got those today for $199. sale at FutureShop. Amazing quality for the dollar!

  • LOL!

  • are these speakers better then the logitech z-2300?

  • ehh, yaaa (?)

  • @azndung no

  • can i plug my ipod into it?

    please respond?

  • I have these and i say, Yup :P

  • Just got these today and all I can say about the sound is WOW. The total feel of the device is like quality out of the box. I'm normally not one to be a fanboy of Bose, but these speakers really sound like you're at the movies. The best part about it is that they're only 2 speakers with one sub. I'm fine with this model, but its crazy to think there is one more higher model.

  • is there a bass port on the sub?

  • Yes. Bose are known for a boomy bass-porty bass.

  • bose speakers aren't actually bad at all, but the major problem is that they're really overpriced, making every single other speaker in the same price range beating the bose easily.

  • im not disagreeing with you, just asking which ones beat the bose as im thinking of getting some.

  • check out the Creative Gigaworks T3, designed to look the same but seem to sound much better. also have a look at Logitech z-2300 for insane bass for the buck. Razer Mako is a sick allrounder, quality is nice and it's the best pc set for high volume levels tested so far. And for the audiophiles, look no further: Audioengine. (i hope to post a Audioengine review soon)

  • hey i got these but when i turn them on they start making a humming noise when i play a bit of music then it keeps gettin louder how do i stop this if anyone knows?

  • Ive had this problem before. its something to do with electricity (dont ask for details as i have no idea lol).

But try plugging it into another outed. Preferable one on the wall. some extension chords cause this problem.

Try searching on google speakers humming

  • @ish485 The One Below Is Incorrect I Have This Same Problem Exept This Only Happens If You Have A Microfone (even the one on your webam) The Thing Just Put The Volume Level Up One By One I Did It Like This And It Workd..

  • @ish485 A probably cause for the hum is that your audio source (e.g. your computer) and the speakers do share a common ground connection. Try plugging them into the same outlet if they are not already. If they are, then ensure the outlet is grounded. Not sure where you are... in North America it is not uncommon to find a three prong outlets installed with no ground connection in a older homes. You can get an outlet test device cheap at a hardware store.

  • @ish485 Its from not haveing a ground to your computer and/or the bose system. You have to have the same common ground to both or if your house is old you most likely dont have a ground in witch case you need to run one. if you do have a ground wire and its still making the humm trace your ground because somewhere its not sliced good, or i might not be a true ground at the source.

  • @ish485 Hi man.. this could be ground (earth) loop problem which the earth connection for power socket you used is not properly connected or you are sharing the power point with some other electrical equipment which is highly inductive like a motor or fridge. Hope this could help. :)

  • I picked up this speaker system about 3 months ago. The sound is amazing. If you want bass, youll get some great bass. I could actually hear the bass resonating through out my house at a low level of volume.

  • can you connect these to your ps3?

  • yes you can

  • you might need an RCA to stereo jack though (costs 7 bucks)

  • Hi Mitch. You say the audio connection from the Bose controller to the computer is on the front of the controller, but I'm curious as to how you played the sample tune when there was no wire connected? :)

  • Thanks for the review! I am thinking of buying some :D

  • Hey man nice review, im thinking of buying these soon and i was just wondering if they're loud because i recentley bought some shitty £20 speakers and my laptop was louder without them. cheers

  • hey im thinking of buying these speakers but just want to know if the bass turned up to full on the subwoofer really is high and you can still feel/hear the bass when your not sat right at your computer desk? thanks great review by the way

  • and i'm not denying you, i'm implying that there good for £200.

Now "take that with a little more than that in the living room"

  • bro... do you have ears???

  • what would your recommendation for a pair of speakers be? i'm looking around $100-$250... yeah...

probably won't get anything good with that, but do you have any recommendations? :) thanks.

  • @Freezer7Pro Get a life you big headed twat

  • @Freezer7Pro then what speaker system do you recommend for around $300?

  • @Freezer7Pro

...you don't need 8000$ loudspeakers to prove that. Some 200$ vintage speakers are enough.Bose is great for car I think. For home no.Lack of midle tones, too metalic highs and their woofers are o.k. only for home teather system-very slow and non precised. Those chrispy tweeters realy sound impresive for the first hour becouse you realy get that 3d reflect feeling-but simply can't play all music and can be realy distordet. For computer games or movies o.k..For music...so so.

  • @Freezer7Pro What an idiot! I am not boasing how good my system is, I am here for this review!

  • i heard these in person WOW! sounds like your in a movie theater amazing sound comes from these speakers.

  • For $150 dollars less than these you could get a pair of m-audio av30s that would blow away these bose speakers, and with the $150 left in your pocket you could even add a subwoofer with a real 10" driver instead of the wimpy 5.25" from the "acoustimass module."

  • I have a BOSE cinema system that is 1000 watts and has a 15" driver.

  • bose cinema system???? dude they dont even make floor standing speakrs.... there shit....

  • if u wanted to hear the true bass of a track then u shud listen to amile by lil wayne

  • there is a headphone jack in the back of the subwoofer.

  • bose is sick!

  • bose is the best you can find ;)

  • no it's not :)

bose is overpriced and weak trust me do some more research

    im not a bose hater!

  • The Bowers and Wilkins sends the Bose iPod dock to hell where it belongs. And, their surround sound systems also suck. Check out my videos. They get the point across pretty well.

  • then why do the speaker drivers cost 1.89 each? loock at aprts express and look up bose. it sucks. i can name alot of brands that are better. if you want the best get b&w

  • The Bose Wave System is awesome. i am going to get one soon. I will make the first unboxing in youtube

    :)

  • Im just wondering if somone can tell me are Krk's rokit 5 better of the Bose Companion 3?

    Thanks

    -Ramzo

  • You could connect your computer via headphone jack in the back of the subwoofer, even though you said you can't :(

  • If you wanted pure stereo, could get a simple audio splitter. If you're thinking of setting up a 4.1 system, just plug the Companion 2 into your Rear Speaker port, and Companion 3 into the front port. Then equalize in your sound card.

  • Bose sounds great, but i dont like the satellites speakers too small.

  • thanks nice review

  • You realize the USB connection is how you get sound from the computer, not the Line In on the Pod...

    Right?

  • actually the bose companion 3 doesnt have usb connectivity. its the companion 5 that does

  • Many Thanks for a nice review!!!!!

  • You don't half talk rubbish do you?
