They said the same bout many bands who made 3 albums & got popular w kids and the club scene & then got money & learned to make albums. THAT is when you learn what a band is made of & when they mature into real artists, or not. REM's early stuff was great & new & caught on. Their later stuff put them up with the greatest acts of rock n roll history. People said the SAME thing about the Beatles 2.0 when "Yesterday and Today" and "Rubber Soul" came out that you said about R.E.M. here

It's funny to read all these comments!

1. Great things are NOT around the corner. Classic R.E.M. is Chronic Town, Murmur and Reckoning. The other albums are another R.E.M., it's R.E.M. 2.0 and definitely LESS good.

2. Murmur is not only their best album, it is THE BEST ALBUM EVER. EVER. My favourite album of all times.

3. Correct all RockPalast performances should be out on DVD.

4. Comparing Murmur to Accelerate is like comparing truffles with turnips.

@daveliso 1)Have u heard the new album Collapse Into Now? I think it's pretty good. 2) There is a whole Smashing Pumpkins RockPalast concert on YouTube. It's GREAT if u are into the heavier side of Alternative rock.

@GAdawgsfan93 @ultramegaunknown @YofterMofter @tspnyc The freshness, awesomeness, energy and novelty on the first 3 albums will NEVER EVER be replicated. I am CERTAIN Peter, Michael, and Mike know this. I interviewed R.E.M. on the Life's Rich Pageant tour.. Live, SOMETHING was ALREADY missing. I love Rank 'n' File, Let's Active, Guadalcanal Diary, etc. These similar acts put out LP's in which ALL SONGS have a constant quality and magic to them. Alas, I can't say the same for R.E.M. post 'Hyena'.

whats so amazing is that Murmur sounds kinda similar to their newest album "Accelerate". Accelerate is heavier, but they way their music is pieced together is similar. hopefully they are connecting with their wonderful past.
