SoB is undergoing a $7M~ layout and track reworking. The ride will only be the same up to the top of the lfit hill. Everything after the lift hill (including the first drop) will be torn down and completely redone, this time using higher quality Intamin track, instead of the cheap, prefab Intamin track it used before. The ride will be much smoother, and the new layout will completely eliminate previous problem areas. The coaster is due to reopen summer 2012.

@reviewthis1 holiday world is probably number 2 on my parks-to-go-to list, right behind cedar point. all 3 of the wooden coasters there look awesome. now if only indiana was a little bit closer to rhode island...

SON of beast will not be closing, this is not the end a park official told me yesterday that it will reopen in less than a month. They once more are reexamining the structural integrity of the ride and plan to improve structural support braces.

me and my buddy waited a hour and a half for this ride like 5 times , rode in the front, and no neck braces. haha though we did ride the seat behind front, and it fucking kicked my ass.

why did they take the loop out? i heard that the new cars wouldnt make it around, but i saw that they used brakes before the drop to the loop. couldnt the lighter cars make it without that brake?
the trains used in son of beast old model were customized... They were wider than standard wooden coaster trains, and made to go over inversions. However the new trains are much smaller and had to be customized to just fit the track.. Given the trains were lighter and smaller, it would have been a huge waist for the park to customize the wheels for inversions, and the trains not pick up enough speed. The brakes they added are block brakes, just in case an extra cart was added due to low capacity
I rode this ride this past weekend. I did it, and that's it. No more. It's a terrible ride. Nothing at all thrilling about it. It focuses completely on being fast and tall. It has very little if any airtime and jerks the crap out of you. Be sure to take an advil before and after riding. I have a season pass to kings island but this is the one coaster there i recommend passing on.

It's kind of funny. You can tell where they took out the loop and didn't know what to put in its place. They didn't have enough room to put in anything meaningful, just a small little camel bump.

the loop wasn't the problem, the helix was. it was starting to collapse from stress so they had to change to lighter trains to prevent further stress damage to the track. the lighter trains are not capable of performing the loop so it was removed as well. but yes, the loop itself was not a problem.

I find that hard to believe considering that SOB has wheels underneath the track, and on top of the track. Hmm... I'm guessing that it was THAT bumpy that made you think it "hopped" off the track.
It never fell fell off. The track around the helix caved in and jolted people forward injuring everyone on board, and breaking 2 girls chest bones. (One girl is my cousin's friend.)

I should consider myself lucky to have ridden it with the loop.

okay, i know i'm going to get plenty of haters on this comment, but i think the park needs rid of this ride, not only because my dad and brother now have to wear neck braces after last week's "adventrure", but also because no one hardly rides it. I looked it up and it turns out that the son of beast has the least amount of riders on a daily basis.
So if you want to hate, go ahead, but don't say i cant diss bcuz i havent rode it, i have with and without the loop.

PLENTY of people LOVE son of beast! I'm truely sorry to hear about your dad and brother but you have to be aware, Son of Beast is a WOODEN coaster, not a new top of the line steel demon. You should understand this before getting on the ride. I mean I've gotten hurt on a wooden coaster before, but it was my own fault for not having the safety bar down low enough because my stomach was hurting. I mean c'mon you get what you ask for. But DON'T diss Son of Beast, it's a legandary wicked ride.

You are dumb. The loop was what MADE the coaster. It has nothing to do with not being steel but the loop was really the selling point of this. Without it they should have just demolished this roller coaster considering there's nothing that makes it stand out anymore other than it being rougher than sex with Rosie O' Donnel...

2. Yea, the loop "made" this if you blindly follow hype and numbers. Why put a loop in a woodie? It was just pure gimmick, and its ONE loop. Take away ONE loop and it goes from a grate ride to crap? You're just a sheep.

why did they take the loop out? i heard that the new cars wouldnt make it around, but i saw that they used brakes before the drop to the loop. couldnt the lighter cars make it without that brake?

the trains used in son of beast old model were customized... They were wider than standard wooden coaster trains, and made to go over inversions. However the new trains are much smaller and had to be customized to just fit the track.. Given the trains were lighter and smaller, it would have been a huge waist for the park to customize the wheels for inversions, and the trains not pick up enough speed. The brakes they added are block brakes, just in case an extra cart was added due to low capacity

I rode this ride this past weekend. I did it, and that's it. No more. It's a terrible ride. Nothing at all thrilling about it. It focuses completely on being fast and tall. It has very little if any airtime and jerks the crap out of you. Be sure to take an advil before and after riding. I have a season pass to kings island but this is the one coaster there i recommend passing on.

It's kind of funny. You can tell where they took out the loop and didn't know what to put in its place. They didn't have enough room to put in anything meaningful, just a small little camel bump.

the loop wasn't the problem, the helix was. it was starting to collapse from stress so they had to change to lighter trains to prevent further stress damage to the track. the lighter trains are not capable of performing the loop so it was removed as well. but yes, the loop itself was not a problem.

Wow. No, it's still up. It NEVER derailed. The track simply caved in at the Rose Bowl(helix).
All they did was take the loop out to use lighter trains.

oh also at disneyland the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad derailed back in 2004 and a gug died on in cause the front of the locomotive struck him in the head and chest just search death on Big Thunder Mountain Railraod on youtube and it gives the whole detail about it aslo with pics.

It never fell fell off. The track around the helix caved in and jolted people forward injuring everyone on board, and breaking 2 girls chest bones. (One girl is my cousin's friend.)
