  • how much did it cost you to do the following? (indiviually)

Webcam 101 grind cams, OS Manley valves, head porting, lightened internals, 9:1 forged pistons, 1-5/8" x 28" 4-1 header

  • @HybridAres Not sure I can break it down to just those. Webcams cost about $700, valves were about $270 plus $160 for the 3-angle valve job. Porting was free because I did it myself. Lightened internals includes the Eagle H-Beams rods which are $320, the pistons which were $650 and a full balance which was $180. The header was home made and cost me $60 in materials but I did all the design and welding. I did all assemble myself.

  • can you post another video at idle i want to hear it with the cams

  • great video

  • I took a Momo hub and ground the base where it meets the spiral cable so it wouldn't press on it and bind. I think most people just remove the spiral cable assembly which is why you would see metal there without it. The hole for the horn in the Momo hub lines up with the connector for the cruise control on the spiral cable so after cutting some plastic on the connector it plugs right in. The cruise stalk is just suspended with wire in the hub and comes out a slit in the plastic cover.

  • Can you share you secret as to how you covered up all that exposed metal you usually see when you replace the stock wheel with an aftermarket one? And How did you get to keep your cruse control? I have been wanting a new wheel but I was afraid I wasn't able to keep my cruse control, which is vital to my great MPG.

  • The turbo I am using is a t3/t4 50 trim with home made header and downpipe. I've had it on the car before when my 5sfe was more stock but I didn't have the tuning for it so there were problems. It was fun for 3 weeks though. This time I know more and am taking my time to do it the right way. For anyone wanting to turbo a 5sfe or any NA car for that matter, just remember the most important thing is the tuning.

  • what kind of turbo setup are you going to do? i have a 91 n/a and i want to turbo it

  • Not sure the 1/4 as I haven't had it at the track. The car keeps up with stock turbo MR2s at the meets though so I would guess 15s at this altitude and 14s at sea level. I should be low 12s or 11s when it is tuned with the new turbo. I am finishing up the intercooling part now and hope to start tuning in a month or two.

  • i got a 93 mkII with a 5sfe as well. so far its got a ram air intake setup and timing advance. gonna swap a 3s-gte into it but im curious what yours ran in the 1/4? if you ever raced it that is

  • whats you r0-60 time n 1/4 time after all these mods

  • It's about 22mpg when I am abusing it like in the videos. I have done 26mpg though with some mixed freeway and around town driving. I'm sure when the turbo goes on this spring it will drop though. :)

  • With all those mods, hows your gas mileage now?

  • Why would you waste money on a 5sfe? your car dont even scratch 2nd gear lmfao

  • @turbo200sx0007 - Oh so sorry your engine is in the wrong place so you don't get any traction. :) In addition to it being an MR2 where all the weight is over the rear wheels, my rims are 9.5" wide and have 265/35/18 summer tires mounted on them. Even then it breaks loose in 2nd on occasion.

I have spent less on this then I would have had I swapped in a 3sgte and then rebuilt it with all forged internals and all the mods this engine has. Stop drinking the kool-aid.

  • I've rarely ever seen someone build a 5S-FE, and for that I give you kudos. With 9:1 compression and more displacement than a 3S-GTE, I think a 5S-FTE is going to be a GREAT motor. Are there any updated clips with the turbocharger on there?

  • @rjhall90 - Thanks. Sorry I was having to much fun driving it around NA and driving it in SCCA Solo events and now it is parked for the winter. The turbo will be going back on this Spring and I will get some videos of it.

  • That's a great running 5SFE the mods really woke that thing up, and the rpms climb like nobodys business, oh and I like the DIY cupholder that's clever!

  • @94GT5MT - Haha thanks.

  • sup mr. turrari, its campos. i had no idea you had vids on youtube. AWESOME! i sent you an email yesterday. i thought you were megasquirting but some posts above mention and smt6. you cars a best, what was the max dyno n/a and max dyno with the turbo?

  • @camposvazquez - Sorry no dyno with all the new mods and the turbo yet. I will do it this spring. I've seen a similar 5sfte to this one making over 500rwhp but I am just shooting for just 320rwhp or so with low boost.

  • I like your steering wheel, makes the interior look pretty cool.

  • Sorry I've been enjoying the car the way it is for a while. Summer is just a hard time to have your car up on jackstands in the garage. :D Soon, very soon.

AsmodiusMKII - As I put in my other posts... this is not an NA motor. It is a built turbo motor running without the turbo on it. Even without the turbo it keeps up with stock turbo MR2s. Imagine adding a boost controller that took you from 0 to 18psi and that will give you an idea of what this motor is capable of.

  • So this videos been up for 9 months now, is it turbo yet? i wanna see what this thing was built to do

  • @jawbreaker5000 I know what im talkin about, and yes i know that they can be BUILT to make power, thats why i said they have no potential WITHOUT being built to hell...any motor can be BUILT to go fast

read more carefully before u talk shit

  • ehh im sorry it looks like u put a lot of money into that NA but u could of bought a cheap used mr2 turbo and still had some money to just pump up the boost with a 50 doller twos r us controller and it would be waaaaay faster....

  • @AsmodiusMKII - Yes but I DON'T have the turbo on yet and I am as fast as a stock turbo MR2. Think about that. ;)

  • @mrturrari yeah but any joe shmoe with a mr2 turbo will likely have a boost controller and exhaust, thats already 50hp over you and "stock" mr2 lol, tho i like the response of NA far more than waiting a second for my boost to reach 15lbs lol

  • @AsmodiusMKII

I have a boost controller too. :) With the turbo on it will more then double HP not just add a measly 50. If I get around to adding an EMS this engine is capable of 500-600rwhp.

  • @mrturrari that sounds like an amazingly finnicky and non-daily drivable car lol. Besides why bother hopping up toyota's basic 5sfe motor when toyota specifically designed and used the 3sgte and 2jz's as their race engines? 3sgte's go up to 400rwhp without even modifying the motor lol

  • @AsmodiusMKII What? I use this car to commute to work for more then half the year. Nothing non-daily-drivable or finicky about it. It is as reliable as my other stock Mr2. It actually behaves just like a stock 5sfe does but everything is shifted up 1000rpms. With the turbo on there it will be no different then any other 300+rwhp MR2 and others who have built and driven them agree. Where do you people get this crap? Next you are going to tell me that stickers make your car faster.

  • @mrturrari haha no i would never dare put a single sticker on my car! But i dunno man, wouldn't things be cheaper and have more potential if u just got a jdm 3sgte instead? :) just saying lol, i guess if u bought all ur motor and turbo stuff peice by peice over time it might make sense to build up ur 5sfe but i dunno...i just like thinking long term lol. Its good to see you working on a car that matters!

  • @AsmodiusMKII My point is that it is not always more economical to do a swap. For those looking for stock turbo power levels with a plug and play install, yes it makes sense. But once you are shooting for the 300+rwhp range things start to even out and because you will be replacing everything anyway with performance parts, it makes more sense to use what is already in the car. I have spent less on this 5sfte then I would have on a swapped 2.2 5sgte and a 2.0 3sgte would just not be the same.

  • @AsmodiusMKII Agreed that the MR2 is a great platform and we should be encouraging people to further the cause no matter which engine they choose to put in there.

  • @mrturrari i most emphatically concur! I want someone who's done a v8 swap to post a damn video on youtube tho...because apparently a bunch of people have done it already according to mr2oc X_x

  • @AsmodiusMKII oh an the amazinging undriveable comment is for the 500-600rwhp 5sfe's, not a 300hp one lol

  • is there any good place to get aftermarket mr2 5sfe parts i have looked around but its hard to find stuff that isnt just for the 3sgte's cant decide to tune the bigger displacement or just swap

  • No a 5sfe is not a good replacement for a 2zz. There would be way too much custom fabrication and a 2zz already makes more power then a 5sfe unless you put a ton of work into it. I would look and see what other 7th gen Celicas are doing.

  • I am doing an engine swap on my 2000 celica gt, would this be a good engine to drop in?

  • it sounds really good, and mad props to get it to rev that high that much and not blow up, but it just still seems slow as shit lol...

  • slow

  • @delekado

You guys are funny. This car keeps up with stock turbo mr2s and that is without any boost on a motor that was made for it. It is still making power when a stock 3sgte starts to fall on it's face and even when it hits rev limit.

  • @mrturrari I have a rev 3 GTs 1994 and your car doesn't appear to be moving in comparison lol, mind you it does make 450 bhp :D

  • @MagicAyrtonforever You have a revision 3 Celica GT-S? 1994? 450HP? Are you kidding? First of all a 1994 is the first year of the sixth gen Celica, thereby making any revisions impossible. And 450 hp? And there are no videos of it on your profile? You couldn't spew more bullshit if you fed the bull a laxative, buddy.

  • @rjhall90 Bullshit my arse, check out the 2 Porsche Videos I have just uploaded, those 2 cars are worth more than your house "buddy" what an Idiot pfffffffffft

  • Nice video man, why does everyone always have to be negative. If its not your car and you have nothing good to say, shut the **** up. Why bash on someone for what they like.

  • wow it actually pulls above 5k rpm unlike stock 5sfes! back in the day mine just made a lot of noise after 5k rpm.

  • have of these posts are retarded. This guy is making amazing power from the 5S.

  • MR. Turrari, #uck all those Nay sayers!!! This video rocks! I love it. The sound, the gauges, and all the mods. Cant wait till i get a camera mount so I can post some vids also. MR2OC member Raign00. We have chopped it up a time or 2. SCREW U HATERS!!!! MR2 5SFTE will shit on your rice for sure.

  • theres absolutely no reason u need a boost guage and controller without boost...compression and forged pistons have nothing to do with that, unless of course youre going turbo soon which i assume not cuz u got an all motor tune and small injectors...and heres a reason to swap, um, the 5sfe sucks!!! no power potential without building to hell and the gearing sucks balls for an na setup...3sgte, up the boost more fuel and a good tune and youve got power the 5sfe dreams about...u spent way too much

  • I think I saw the light bulbs above your heads flicker... but then it went black again. Do I have to spell everything out? THIS IS A BUILT 5SFTE RUNNING WITHOUT THE TURBO! Similar in spec to the one that TEC2RM did a few years back that did a 10 second quarter mile and had 515rwhp. Low compression looses some power with this setup NA no doubt. Raising it would put this engine equal or above what a stock gen2 3sgte makes. So if the 5sfe sucks so bad what does that say for the 3sgte?

  • Maybe installing larger injectors and tuning your car yourself is beyond YOU but it is not a problem for me. I'm even still on the stock ECU and with the SMT6 I have enough control to push higher then most 3sgte guys do.

And about the gears in the s54 tranny, the same tranny the 200hp BEAMS uses that you say is terrible for an NA, 1-3 have the same gearing when you factor in the different final drives as in the e153 in the turbo.

  • Well then if its so easy for u, throw on tha damn turbo, tune the damn thing, and show us what it can really do! I cant see the point of building it for turbo, tuning it for NA and posting a video u know ur gonna get flamed on, cmon man

  • N/A car with a boost gauge in the dash to read vacuum=Ricer Fail.

Swap in a 3sgte and make all those gauges useful.

  • Think about that for a second and it will come to you. Why would someone put a boost gauge on a car with 9:1 compression and forged pistons? Oh yeah and you missed the boost controller in the glove box too.

And something else to think about... this car makes almost as much power without the turbo as a 3sgte does stock. Why in the hell would I want to swap and end up making less power?

  • so you have a boost controller and a boost gauge but no boost?

    what the fuck

please tell me you are turboing it in the near future

and if not but you really wanna see the vaccume that bad buy a fucking vacc gauge
