Im 15 so i couldnt play the games on the ps1 but i like the movie more and i hate the new games but ive seen the old games and there awesome cuz there still regular zombies but i like the movies more
@rafalldownthestairs all is not lost when it comes to catching up, if you google around for ePSXe its a playstation emulator for the PC, runs really well & can load playstation disks & ISO images of psx disks also suports saving game play data to ( its worth a shot because the first 4 games on psx were truly awsome) only issue i ever had with epsxe was it didn't like Music 2000 (other than that everything i ever ran on it worked like a charm back in the day) the games will be out their

Albeit they're very good, I think RE movies missed the "mystery element" that made Resident Evil a classic. The original PSOne game looked like a real horror movie. They should've hired George Romero to make the movie, for starters.
Yes they left out a lot of good things but they're trying to please both game fans AND critics. I admit I hate that they've just now put in Chris in the newest movie, how Wesker was an obscurity until Extinction, and how Alice overshadows the game characters that ARE in the movies, but could've been MUCH worse. I personaly think Alice is pretty cool, and as far as acuracy, not 2 bad of a job as far as enemies (Nemesis was dead-on) and it looks like the next movie will pertain to the 5 game a lot

@SAIVUR It's not THAT BAD! Although Alice is only a character made up for the movies, there are still characters from the game! Chris is in RE4, Jill is in RE2+RE4, Wesker & Claire is in RE3+RE4 and Tyrant is in RE3 & Nemesis was in RE2. Plus, they're planning to put Leon in RE5!
For those of you who are too young here.George Romero had actually started filming his version of RE way before any of these had come to light,but unfortunately he had to can the film as he went over budget.This film went through several directors and writers for years but they just did'nt have the money to make it.

yip, most just seam to think its a good movie & dont get the other side of it, i mean i agrea as a movie, their not bad, but the game came first & with that said, the game plot is more important than the movies writers
they tried to go for the zombie audience rather than the game fans, that alone was a big mistake as any zombie buff is a fan of both lol, not many good writers out thier :'(
@TheWraith It's better that they came up witht heir own plot then just retrack already trodden ground besides they probably would've goten the canon story wrong.
@Shabonian i guess the best way to go would of been to involve a character from the game and have them exit the film early on, leaving the unknown characters to evolve on their own, rather than portraying game characters we no, least then they would of also got a new game out of it with new lead characters

I kinda liked 'Extinction' it wasn't a bad zombie/post-apocalyptic movie and it had a sorta Resi feel about it. I did feel that the first two were pretty bad though.

i played resident evil 2, i got to the bit when you get into the sewars with the giant spiders and shit, then the screen froze. the dude sold me a fucked up copy of the game.
The movie was nothing like the games except for the T-virus and zombies.

I mean its obvious that there is going to be changes to get the game to film. But they could have at least has the plot somewhat simular to the games. They did the same thing with Doom.

But it's an adaptation of the game. I'm sure you're using the term "exactly" very literally, comically so. In that sense, no, the film shouldn't have been just like the game. As I said before, why look at something that's popular, for a reason in fact, and then just take the name and not what made it popular? That's not an adaptation. The first film was so different from the games in story, character, and tone, that it could have been it's own story. Change some names, the title (maybe "The Hive" would have been good), and there you go, an original film that doesn't cheaply cash-in on a franchise's name.
I agree with you. They actually did this alot with video games in the 80's as well. Many movie games were just slight tweeks of games already being made. Thats all that happened here.
Ah, i see what you mean now. But still, using that logic, you could do the same to many movies. Although I think even if they did that for this movie, the whole mansion with the route to the secret lab would be obviously RE.

i think the first movie set up the foundation for what could have been a pretty good game to film adaption. i had problems with the adaptions of re but i still like them. Resident Evil wasnt as half assed as most other video game to movie adaptions.

i liked the first one mainly because it gave you the sense of being out numbered low ammo and basicly screwed (i only didn't like the licker/hunter battle
as for number 2 it started good but the second carlos dove out of a helicopter i new they would try and make the entire movie action then they decided to make alice super human and the best monster villian in my eyes a total bitch

And when I say he mutilates the characters, I mean he completely changes their background and even ethnicity. He makes Barry black, and then has him get shot dead, so it can't be to appease the people who think RE is racist (which I don't think, btw). Chris is native american, and not even a member of STARS! He lives on a farm or some crap!
.....I'm sorry for ranting, I'm just tired of hearing about how great the movie would have been if they used Romero's script. Now, let me try this again, in a more civilized manner.
You're right, Romero is a genius, and a better director than Anderson. However, in my opinion, the script that made it to theaters, while not perfect, was the better script. This is only my opinion, and by no means am I attempting to insult you or your opinion.
this was an ok ending, but the second ending was much better, her walking out into the ruined streets, was a much better ending, imo, compared to this, but oh well, everyone's different
This is ending is good but I don't think it fits the movie, I'm glad they went with the real ending because it was a lot better then this, to this day it still brings chills down my spine. I'm glad they made the right choice.
This clip here proves Alice is a rip off of Neo! This is the scene where Neo and Trinity enter the building, and blow it up. She's even wearing a long, black coat.

Boy I'm glad they cut that out. I'm not a fan of the RE movies either. The games kept a dark, gothic feel while the movies went all commando with it. They completely butchered the feel fromt he games.
Because they not respect the story of the game and they change a lot of things. Personally, I find they should keep the alternate ending and don't make the two other movies. In the second movie, Alice has a fist fight w/ the NEMESIS and she won! And the Nemesis turn good at the end. And their is a lot of other things. It's my opinion.
i'd have to say the same thing and where does alice have to do with the RE series at all? there was never an "alice" in any of the games and plus nemesis is a pure killing machine so there is no way he'd grow a heart to be good EVER....

The police officer in the first movie wasn't Leon, his name is Matt. Even though he was also new to Raccoon, he still wasn't Leon. If your a Resident Evil fan, don't follow the storyline of the movie. Follow the game.
i know he was never in the movies..... look go too one of the official websites for the movie resident evil apocalypse.... n read the newspapers in it, it says leon kennedy was killed, and that he was jills partner n becasue of something involving that jill goes crazy and is kicked off the force or something like that, its not in the movie, only on one of the website for the movie, and i heard its mentioned in the book but i dont know bout that, but i saw the newspaper on the site

In September 2006 it was announced that casting had been underway for RE4(movie)and that Jensen Ackles was in talks for portraying Leon Kennedy.However bringing Leon as a character in a film would contradict promotional information from RE Apocalypse. Screen Gems created a faux newspaper The Raccoon City Times detailing the background of Jill Valentine and included that she was kicked from S.T.A.R.S. after the death of her partner Leon Kennedy.
If the film company releases information about a movie as a promo which they did on this, then it can be considered fact unless otherwise contradicted in the movies. I hate to use a star wars reference but if George Lucas says something has happened in a Star Wars film off screen then its true. Same reasoning here. Since they gave out info saying he's dead and Jill suspended (which ties in with the movie) then it should be taken as true. Feel free to disagree.
well true that if George says one thing about Star Wars it's true but that's because he created Star Wars but RE they can't say or do anything they want since there's rules like if the character never died in the game you don't kill him but sometimes they break those rules ( SH ) but i do believe that in the sequel to RE extinction Leon would be in it since they killed Carlos and introduced Wesker chances are Leon would be in the movie
The problem with that theory though is that they already killed Carlos in the film, just because they introduced Wesker doesn't mean that they will introduce more characters from the game (with w.s.anderson who knows). Based on the newspaper that they released they can't reintroduce Leon into the series. They can release a clone of some sorts, but they can not just add him into the new movies like Claire in extinction.
well the third movie already broke that rule but i strongly believe they would just add him since again you say it was a promotional thing that Leon was supposedly killed which would be very stupid killing a main game character for promotional use since most ok people that went and saw the movie we're fans of RE and again since it was promotional thing that probably many people didn't know of like me so it would be easy to add him and with Wesker now in the movie they can add ADA
Generally put any info that's given out that actually makes it anywhere public for a movie means that its somewhat true. While they can always add him to the next movie the odds of that actually occurring are slim to downright nim. Of course they could screw the series over again and add him but most likely hopefully not.
it wasn't public since i never read the article and i was always going to find the movie online when i heard of it and adding Leon can't ruin the movie anymore than it already is and i believe the chances of him in another RE movie is big if Wesker's assistant Ada Wong would be in it and having Leon would be a must for his history with Ada
and also about his death tying in to Jill's suspension doesn't actually fit for on the most logical thing would be the mansion incident could have cost it or better yet Brad dying which would be forgivable since he died in RE 3 but Leon dying doesn't really fit since many know Leon was transferred to RPD after day 1 of outbreak and why would she be suspended because a fellow cop dying doesn't really fit
Well its kind of obvious, The movies throw the bible that are the games right out the window. Going way back in this little argument, Jill was suspended due to her "partner" Leon S. Kennedy's death. And remember in the movie Jill does mention she told everyone about what Umbrella was doing but they didn't listen. So something similar to the mansion incident from the game may have happened, but all in all the games and the movies are Two distinct universes that do not mix.
but again his death can't be the reason since Leon was never with S.T.A.R.S. and Leon was never Jill's partner but i'm sure they would add Leon mostly because again Wesker is in it and Leon him dying his something that didn't happen in the movie if he was in the first movie than maybe but he wasn't and the mansion incident is a more likely reason for her suspension and having Leon in the movie could make the movie better ( and because Alice needs someone to fall in love with )

I was responding at first to your statement that if it were like the game, it would be predictable and no different than watching a walkthrough of the game on YouTube. But it's an adaptation of the game. I'm sure you're using the term "exactly" very literally, comically so. In that sense, no, the film shouldn't have been just like the game. As I said before, why look at something that's popular, for a reason in fact, and then just take the name and not what made it popular? That's not an adaptation. The first film was so different from the games in story, character, and tone, that it could have been it's own story. Change some names, the title (maybe "The Hive" would have been good), and there you go, an original film that doesn't cheaply cash-in on a franchise's name.

I agree with you. They actually did this alot with video games in the 80's as well. Many movie games were just slight tweeks of games already being made. Thats all that happened here.

i think the first movie set up the foundation for what could have been a pretty good game to film adaption. i had problems with the adaptions of re but i still like them. Resident Evil wasnt as half assed as most other video game to movie adaptions.

i liked the first one mainly because it gave you the sense of being out numbered low ammo and basicly screwed (i only didn't like the licker/hunter battle
as for number 2 it started good but the second carlos dove out of a helicopter i new they would try and make the entire movie action then they decided to make alice super human and the best monster villian in my eyes a total bitch
and three was horrid i mean come on everyone but her is killed off like a slasher flick AND she psychic..

He makes Barry black, and then has him get shot dead, so it can't be to appease the people who think RE is racist (which I don't think, btw). Chris is native american, and not even a member of STARS! You're right, Romero is a genius, and a better director than Anderson. However, in my opinion, the script that made it to theaters, while not perfect, was the better script. This is only my opinion, and by no means am I attempting to insult you or your opinion.

This is ending is good but I don't think it fits the movie, I'm glad they went with the real ending because it was a lot better then this, to this day it still brings chills down my spine. I'm glad they made the right choice.

They should have made it like the first game, with Jill, Chris etc. Instead of coming up with Alice, Paul Anderson should be locked up :P

Boy I'm glad they cut that out. I'm not a fan of the RE movies either. The games kept a dark, gothic feel while the movies went all commando with it. They completely butchered the feel fromt he games.

Because they not respect the story of the game and they change a lot of things. Personally, I find they should keep the alternate ending and don't make the two other movies. In the second movie, Alice has a fist fight w/ the NEMESIS and she won! And the Nemesis turn good at the end. And their is a lot of other things. It's my opinion.

The police officer in the first movie wasn't Leon, his name is Matt. Even though he was also new to Raccoon, he still wasn't Leon. If your a Resident Evil fan, don't follow the storyline of the movie. Follow the game.

Here's the wiki on it that states why Leon is dead.
In September 2006 it was announced that casting had been underway for RE4(movie)and that Jensen Ackles was in talks for portraying Leon Kennedy.However bringing Leon as a character in a film would contradict promotional information from RE Apocalypse. Screen Gems created a faux newspaper The Raccoon City Times detailing the background of Jill Valentine and included that she was kicked from S.T.A.R.S. after the death of her partner Leon Kennedy.

If the film company releases information about a movie as a promo which they did on this, then it can be considered fact unless otherwise contradicted in the movies. I hate to use a star wars reference but if George Lucas says something has happened in a Star Wars film off screen then its true. Same reasoning here. Since they gave out info saying he's dead and Jill suspended (which ties in with the movie) then it should be taken as true. Feel free to disagree.

well true that if George says one thing about Star Wars it's true but that's because he created Star Wars but RE they can't say or do anything they want since there's rules like if the character never died in the game you don't kill him but sometimes they break those rules ( SH ) but i do believe that in the sequel to RE extinction Leon would be in it since they killed Carlos and introduced Wesker chances are Leon would be in the movie

The problem with that theory though is that they already killed Carlos in the film, just because they introduced Wesker doesn't mean that they will introduce more characters from the game (with w.s.anderson who knows). Based on the newspaper that they released they can't reintroduce Leon into the series. They can release a clone of some sorts, but they can not just add him into the new movies like Claire in extinction.

Generally put any info that's given out that actually makes it anywhere public for a movie means that its somewhat true. While they can always add him to the next movie the odds of that actually occurring are slim to downright nim. Of course they could screw the series over again and add him but most likely hopefully not.

Well its kind of obvious, The movies throw the bible that are the games right out the window. Going way back in this little argument, Jill was suspended due to her "partner" Leon S. Kennedy's death. And remember in the movie Jill does mention she told everyone about what Umbrella was doing but they didn't listen. So something similar to the mansion incident from the game may have happened, but all in all the games and the movies are Two distinct universes that do not mix.
