God bless you for posting these! I've never made a quilt before, but I know how to use my sewing machine and I was afraid I was going to have to wing it! lol Thank you so very much!!!!
man i wish i had one of those quilting machines hehe thanks for the video im half way through with making mine, its for my sisters new lil baby girl :) this video was very helpful
I just made a little quilt, and I used a temporary adhesive spray, and pins, to keep it together. Then I hooped each square and stitched a simple feather quilt design on my embroidery machine, and a longer feather design on the borders. It turned out great and I quilted it in 2 days!
Thanks for these lovely tutorials! I was wondering if you had a tip to avoid the backing material from bunching or folding. I used pins to hold the layers together but I used jersey cotton on the back and now have a lot of folds. (Using jersey cotton for the back I think was a bad idea!). What material do you often use for baby blankets? Thank you for your help. CJ
Hi there, Thanks for watching and asking questions. The batting doesn't need to be that much bigger, but you need to give it some wiggle room. If you machine quilt your quilt, it needs to be about 4 inches bigger on all sides and that is to make it easier when you attach it to the quilt machine. You can cut is smaller if you are hand quilting or tying you r quilt.

I am making my first quilt (chevrons!) and I haven't figured out why the backing and batting have to be cut so much bigger than the top of the quilt. Could you explain that?

thank you for the wonderful videos! I've never made a quilt before but am interested in beginning. You speak in a manner that is friendly and encouraging to someone that has no quilting experience. You also have a way of making the quilting process look fun and somewhat easy!

Can you explain "quilting" by hand? How do you do that? I can get embroidery hoops, but I need an example of how to quilt. Thank you, and I really love your tutorials...especially the ones on how to do baby quilts!! People really do seem to love them!!
Awesome!! Thank you so much for sharing all of these lessons. They are such a blessing & inspiration. I have tried quilting& it never turned out quite right, but you have shown me what I have been doing wrong....so back to the ironing board!
Wow...could you show us how to make our own pattern to sew by hand on the quilts. Grandma just got me all brandnew sewing machine and surger. Just quit my job and decided to sew for a living. Why not. How can I order those packs of patterns? Awesome awesome tutorial. Please make more things. Aloha.
I have watched enough of your videos that I kind of feel obligated to subscribe
:-) and why not! I have learning from my mother and MSQC the basics of quilting. I am a work in progess, just wanted to say thanks for the all the easy to follow tutorials and Happy Quilting to you as well!
Jenny, I love your videos. I am learning to quilt and sew from you. Thank you so much, and please keep the videos coming. I am working on my first quilt, baby quilt for starters.
OMGoodness thank you thank you thank you!! You guys are the best for making a post to help a beginner out! Thank you so much for responding to my request for help in assembly.
hmmm I lay it out on the floor then hand tack every 2 inches over it. That way I don't break a needle over a safety pin when I'm machine free form quilting.

I love heat transfer batting....just iron, and it's based to the top enough to finish! A great option for small quilts and table runners!
