WTF! So in USA even the women cary concealed weapons? Does any one else see how fucked up that is? Why not children and pets while you are at it? That men are insane in that fucked up country is no news to the rest of the world. But women too? This could very well be the single most stupidest thing I've ever seen. I wonder what the poor Canadians think of their crazy ass neighbor? LoL is this for real or what? Do some people living in america realy think that guns can do anything else than harm?
In Arizona, anyone can carry a concealed gun. No license necessary.
At 6 years old I was shooting guns on a daily basis.
Like it or not, states that have the most relaxed gun laws are the safest places in America to live. States that have the most guns laws are the most dangerous places to live.
It sounds like you allow your crazy, irrational emotions to guide your judgements instead of hard data.
PS. I've used guns for 26 years have never shot anyone.
i see some dumb, dumb comments on this page. You can't simply state that crime didn't go down...there are too many factors to compute. I see people comparing other countries to the US. Apples and oranges. This country's history sets it apart from any other society in the history of the world, and our fundamental right to defend ourselves with guns is huge factor that has shaped us, and therefore makes any comparisons to other countries ridiculous.
Criminals are all Bookworms and very attentive to details. They are always updated in terms of Weapon/Gunlaws. Otherewise, why would Legislators write gazillion gunlaws? TO KEEP US SAFE! Lawmakers know that their "RESTRICTIVE" gun laws will be followed by the "LAWLESS". That includes other "Gun Unfriendly" things, like signs. In a bad neighborhood at night, I find relief and safety standing under the "GUN FREE ZONE" sign.
Here is reality - the crime rate has fallen precipitously everywhere in US regardless of the local gun laws. Liberal gun laws do not lower the crime rate nor do they increase the crime rate. Liberal gun laws overall have no effect on the crime rate - not up or down. We should not glorify gun ownership nor should it demonize it. Ultimately, it is a personal freedom with no social impact one way or the other. Lott's data is crap because it doesn't do proper comparisons.
@FuriousFatMan More myths.. Do your own homework on Australia, England and the other countries. Australia never had a constitutionally protected right to bear arms in the first place, and actual number of crimes was small. England has one of the lowest rates of gun crime in the world, etc. Really... both sides in this debate have grossly exaggerated their data. Gun ownership rights and restrictions have very little impact on crime in developed nations.
@weisschr Proper comparisons to what? Lott's numerous studies on the subject compares states with more restrictive gun laws with states with less restrictive laws, with those definitions clearly delineated in both the abstracts and body of the studies. Can't get more apples-to-apples than that. And what has these studies shown? While you are correct in that the violent crime rate has dropped across the board, it has dropped more precipitously in states with less restrictive laws.
Guns prevent crime. Here is just ONE example (MANY more like this)
Kennesaw, GA. In 1982, this suburb of Atlanta passed a law requiring heads of households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate subsequently dropped 89% in Kennesaw, compared to the modest 10.4% drop in Georgia as a whole.
The press will not tell us how many instances of violence have been prevented by showing a gun. Since they are almost all Liberals, taking away our right to keep & bear arms is their agenda.
@MrMezmerized These numbers speak of the amount of violence in certain areas. Thats all. Each nation must be studied unto itself. Comparing 2 very different nations (with many different factors involved) isn't scientific or logical. Whats important are trends in each nation.
Gun laws have caused individual nations to experience increases in crime. Criminals could care less about gun laws, just gives them the upper hand.
@romansten9 Understood. Still, in about all safer countries, people are not used to guns being around. IMO this keeps anyone, including most baddies, apprehensive about using such ‘heavy’ tools.
I do realize that once guns are embedded in a culture, turning around is hard. It could work as you say, but it could also turn into an arms race. At least ownership should sharply be registered. Thourough background check etc.
I’m glad I live in a country where this all is not an issue.
@MrMezmerized Ownership should NOT be registered. Hopefully you understand the purpose behind the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It defends a God given right to defend oneself, so it was (and always will be) a birthright long before it was ever written down. But the primary purpose was to defend oneself from tyrannical GOVERNMENTS. Which is exactly why the government is NOT permitted to "collect" info on who has the guns. IN the U.S the PEOPLE rule, not the government.
@reddemon21 Some laws are made with provisions for the future such that "blah blah law is active on June 5th, 2012, blah blah blah" so they maybe knew what would be in effect in 2011 in Iowa and made the map with the info.
I am from Whitehaven in the UK (Derrick Bird shootings) and I disagree strongly with people owning guns. I think it would make minor fights into murders (which happens alot in Whitehaven). However this is a very valid debate and respect the opinions of the panel. Even though I disagree strongly with what the panelists say.
@freekicking85 That is widely believed but it simply not true. Gun laws can effect crime patterns drastically (in a bad way) but gun laws, even effective bans have never reduced overall murders in any city, state, or country. You may get fewer gun deaths but not fewer deaths overall & there is significant evidence that more guns in a population reduces murder & other index crime.
@freekicking85 Actually, there are far fewer minor fights when people know it can escalate. Even aggressive angry people stop their activity when their life is in danger. There are exceptions but most often a gun present will stop or prevent a fight from starting in the first place. If no guns are present people just go for it. The perception is they are not risking more than a bloody lip or broken nose. Look at the assault rates in the UK vs US even with strict reporting requirements in the US
@geistknife Absofuckinglutley!! The anti-gun lunatics don’t want to admit that if criminals obeyed the laws, there would be NO CRIME! If there is no crime, there is no need for police!! Haha can you imagine a anti-gun lunitic nanny without a police force to "protect" them?

My gun is with me at all times. It will be with me at all times. Their is nothing anyone can tell me that will make me do otherwise. Obviously if its Illegal I wont do it but these organizations i.e. restaurants that say not to bring a firearm into them, I do not listen. I carry concealed so they wont know the difference, but they unknowingly are putting peoples lives in danger. They are saying "no guns here! Criminals welcome!" I'm not into it.

I've been around around guns all my life, sure, the ARE dangerous and they DO kill. But guess what dumbfucks, they are also dangerous to criminals and people attacking you. And seeing as most of the criminals in the U.S. are only petty and use knives, if you carry a gun around, who has the better chance?
Prohibition does nothing! If they really want to kill people they'll just smuggle guns! If they know a dozen people in a crowd have guns, they might think twice anyway, and statistics show that's true.

California allows concealed carry, although whether or not (or how easily) a permit will be issued varies greatly by county. I like Stossel but I get the feeling politics get in the way of research sometimes...it's easy to attack "liberal" California even if the facts don't always match, it's liberal California so of COURSE they don't have CCW... Seems to be the logic behind this.
More guns in the hands of responsible gun owners prevents crime, not banning guns that LOOK like military guns or 'high capacity' magazines. Such a lack of intelligence anti gun folks have.
its way easier to get illegal guns than legal guns, in New Jersey i could get a .357 magnum for $500 while legally it would cost way more and i would have to wait like 3 years so if its safer for people to have guns illegally than legally why is L.A, New York, and New Jersey so dangerous... these are the people that unfortunately run our government.
the liberals wont be happy until there is no crime ever but the reality is guns work both ways. Yes, someone who can buy the gun legally could kill someone, it happens like at Virginia Tech, but criminals themselves look for easy targets. There is no perfect solution, but I would rather allow peaceful citizens to carry guns. More often that nought, there is less crime.
some scumbag shot my friend in cold blood over something worthless. I live in canada and only criminals have the luxury of owning handguns, our gun laws are horrible
The fact remains. Even if you can't prove that more guns and concealed carry laws didn't cause the decrease in crime, you can't say that more guns and concealed carry laws increased crime. Sorry, Bradynuts. No cigar.
Just about every state allows concealed carry. But states like MA if you meet the requirements for a LTC they don't have to give you one.I live in a town in MA and just about anyone who applies for a LTC will get one but people who live in cities are a lot less likely to get one.Which I think is stupid because if I live in a city and meet the requirements for a LTC then I should have one issued. If I am going through the proper steps to legally conceal a gun do you think I would use it for a crime
Well, I'm still not convinced that liberal gun laws would enforce law and order. Someone once told me that 80% of all crime is done by 20% of all criminals. Now why should we equip gangs and other organized crime groups with a lot of perfectly legal weapons?
Moreover, the vast majority of victims in rape and murder (etc) knew their perpertrator. Can be a relative or "friend". A gun during these circumstances will only bring more harm than good.
@enevighet17 Wrong. Do you think the "bad" guys care about "legal" or "illegal" weapons? NO! I am all for the right to carry law. Had it not been for that law in my state? I might be dead. We need more access and less government. It goes even further than that. The constituition clearly states the right to bear arms. Against tyranny.
It doesnt matter for the rest of us if you are convinced or not.
If you think a gun in your hands may do more harm than good please dont carry one ....as for organized crime, Im pretty sure they dont care about gun permits. You make your own decisions about protecting you and your family and let me worry about me and mine.
@enevighet17 as stated, if you want to break the law its easy to get a gun, atleast if your a criminal. 10 000 kr and youve got yourself a handgun on the black market, With rape I think other possibilities will do fine, I dont remember if it was KD or SD but they propes making pepper spray legal to carry around,
Your comment assumes that if guns were, illegal criminals wouldn't have them. That's fucking stupid
A gun during what circumstances would bring more harm than good? Should a criminal offenders "right to life" trump anothers right to not be a victim? You would rather they be raped than protect themselves from rape? You would rather they be a murder victim than make a victim of their offender?
Assuming you have a daughter, you'd rather her be raped than fight off her attacker?
@MrXZodiacInfinitY A lot of New York state is rural. A lot of the people in those areas have guns. If you didn't notice, D.C. is right on top, and they had a total ban on guns up until recently. Also, Arizona has an inconvenient location which gives then an unpleasant influx of criminals, unrelated to their gun laws.
That's just for gun crime, though. Other forms of crime in those areas where there are guns is lower. Murder and violent crime rates overall are lower.
@MrXZodiacInfinitY In a free society, you certainly have the option to be "a fish in a barrel" if that is your choice. Thankfully, for now, the 2nd Amendment (upheld by a narrow 5-4 vote) precludes you from imposing such nitwittery on me. But, just as the criminal who would perpetrate a gun crime no matter the law, I will likewise defend myself with a gun no matter the law. As this video accurately puts forward, gun laws frequently serve to penalize the law-abiding.
@fzqlcs whoa whoa whoa!! nitwittery? You know what happens when you assume?!! I never said I was pro-gun control. I'm actually a libertarian. So don't jump so quickly to defend your position when you don't even know if i'm opposing it. I was merely trying to point out that the states that aren't allowing concealed weapons weren't the ones on the top of the list for highest gun crime rates, which flys in the face of what this guy was trying to say. I got a little clarification from aretherenomore
@fzqlcs Excellent point. Milton Friedman said that lawlessness only occurs when the law hurts the lawabidor. In other words. People will avoid taxes and lie and find shelters to keep THEIR money. Are they wrong? HELL NO! The government is for trying to steal it. Same with guns. People have a right to protect their private property and their lives. Even against their country at times. So banning guns? No! It is a law making criminals out of good people. And should it be disobeyed. ABSOLUTELY
@MrXZodiacInfinitY ive read that abortionprograms directed at poor single moms in new york about 20 years ago is the biggest reason for its crime rate dropping under giuliani, maybe that why. less troubled youths growing up causing trouble. There are always a myriad of factors to take into any calculation,
"Grow a pair" is right, Statism works by caponisation. The sociological definition of the State i.e. the monopoly of coercion is not without merit because that includes rendering us all dependent on the State for legitimate DEFENCE which is of course reductive of initiation of violence. I genuinely believe that the layman's pathetic desire to delegate all defence to the Police is due to the intellectual class broadcasting the obfuscation of defensive* violence from initiation
Well, I am a "socialist" liberal and I HAVE balls and I own a gun, in MN, that is. Enough of this liberal socialist bullsh*t that you Rethugs keep spewing, that ALL liberals are anti-gun. I moved away from NYC because of their gun laws and after I got mugged on a NYC subway train. If I had a gun now, in NYC, i'd be Bernie Goetz all over again. So don't assume all liberals are bleeding heart wusses ok? Sheesh! Just a moderate liberal tired of the socialist commie label! Grrrr!
The debate here is grounded in nature as well. In the natural world, the predator looks for the weakest of his prey to hunt. A lion would rather target a young gazelle, or wildebeest than a full grown adult who is stronger, faster, and more experienced. A bully is rarely someone smaller, and mentally weaker than his victim. Murder, and theft is already illegal, yet they still happen, then again criminals know there is a possibility to not get caught. Bottom line, the less risk, greater incentive
people can either function as men or as destroyers of men. The vacuum in philosophy left by the failure of 'better men' to uphold liberty against a tide of growing irrationalism 'destroyers of men', has now reached it's logical conclusion. we are seeing the squaring up between reason and unreason. A kind of non-mystical armageddon. There is no ullage left. no more time. this is it.
this is a fucking good video. nobody can argue against the fact that crime/murder rates decrease every time government starts allowing concealable guns.
what about NYC. NYC now has the lowest crime rate and the crime rate keeps dropping. The city also has some of the strictest gun control laws. Why is crime keep dropping in NYC when they have such strict gun laws?
@KripDrip i've heard statistics saying the opposite. i don't like to use statistics in my arguments like stossel does cus they can be manipulated. but ya, there are definitely confounding variables when talking about crime rates relating to gun laws. yes implementing gun laws may not reduce crime, but other things may.
@KripDrip I'm not sure if you've heard, but in some police precincts (Bed-Stuy is one I think) you have police commanders intentionally downgrading crimes to make it appear as though the neighborhood is safer than it actually is.
@KripDrip The pass crime rate in NYC and State was high due to a large number of street gangs. The number of street gangs is less thanks to programs and people who broke up and helped members to get out of the street gangs. But the rate is still higher than the cities and the states that allows open and/or conceal carry.
Is Stossel waiting for an engraved invitation or what? He knows the truth and he is way behind.
Those who know the truth consider you a lightweight, John. You are not going to get the keys to the city for "exposing gun control" when others have been doing it for years. Woohoo, you just got a clue! Now lets move forward, shall we?
@bookhound63 I think it's important that he do these "very basic libertarian principles" shows. SO MANY people are far more behind than he is... it does serve a good purpose.
@bookhound63 What are you trying to do? Discourage convert? Are you saying that if you were'nt hip to the truth for year that you are a lightweight? Only by encouraging those who have the open mindedness to reconsider their opinions--often in the face of elite hostility,do we have a prayer of protecting our liberties from those who would take them from us. Besides,of those others who have been "doing it for years", how many are award winning journalists with a golden microphone? Huh?
@jaredmayer1 Thankyou! I live in jersey and still people wont believe me when I tell them that.

USA 30.0 (7.0%), Germany 3.3 (2.9%), Canada 4.2 (2.8%), Spain 2.1 (1,7%)

Chris4400 1 year ago

A gun during these circumstances will only bring more harm than good.
enevighet17 1 year ago
@enevighet17 Wrong. Do you think the "bad" guys care about "legal" or "illegal" weapons? NO! I am all for the right to carry law. Had it not been for that law in my state? I might be dead. We need more access and less government. It goes even further than that. The constituition clearly states the right to bear arms. Against tyranny.
SuperGuitarman69 1 year ago
@enevighet17
It doesnt matter for the rest of us if you are convinced or not.
If you think a gun in your hands may do more harm than good please dont carry one ....as for organized crime, Im pretty sure they dont care about gun permits. You make your own decisions about protecting you and your family and let me worry about me and mine.
pensword5 1 year ago
@enevighet17 how would a gun make it more dangerus for the victim just bc she/he knows the persone? explain this to me bc i dont get it
jedidraco89 1 year ago
@enevighet17 as stated, if you want to break the law its easy to get a gun, atleast if your a criminal. 10 000 kr and youve got yourself a handgun on the black market, With rape I think other possibilities will do fine, I dont remember if it was KD or SD but they propes making pepper spray legal to carry around,
egalmannen 1 year ago
@enevighet17

I just googled state gun crime rates and new york was at the bottom of the list. Arizona was near the top. That makes this video not make much sense.
MrXZodiacInfinitY 1 year ago
@MrXZodiacInfinitY A lot of New York state is rural. A lot of the people in those areas have guns. If you didn't notice, D.C. is right on top, and they had a total ban on guns up until recently. Also, Arizona has an inconvenient location which gives then an unpleasant influx of criminals, unrelated to their gun laws.
That's just for gun crime, though. Other forms of crime in those areas where there are guns is lower. Murder and violent crime rates overall are lower.
AreThereNoMoreNames 1 year ago
@MrXZodiacInfinitY In a free society, you certainly have the option to be "a fish in a barrel" if that is your choice. Thankfully, for now, the 2nd Amendment (upheld by a narrow 5-4 vote) precludes you from imposing such nitwittery on me. But, just as the criminal who would perpetrate a gun crime no matter the law, I will likewise defend myself with a gun no matter the law. As this video accurately puts forward, gun laws frequently serve to penalize the law-abiding.
fzqlcs 1 year ago
@fzqlcs whoa whoa whoa!! nitwittery? You know what happens when you assume?!! I never said I was pro-gun control. I'm actually a libertarian. So don't jump so quickly to defend your position when you don't even know if i'm opposing it. I was merely trying to point out that the states that aren't allowing concealed weapons weren't the ones on the top of the list for highest gun crime rates, which flys in the face of what this guy was trying to say. I got a little clarification from aretherenomore
MrXZodiacInfinitY 1 year ago

There are always a myriad of factors to take into any calculation,

selfrealizedexile 1 year ago 56

Mass shootings at NRA meetings = 0
Mass shootings at gun shows = 0
Mass shootings at a shooting ranges = 0
Mass gun crimes only occurs in the relative absence of firearms. Criminals are deterred by armed, trained and responsible citizens.

people can either function as men or as destroyers of men.

Gamermatt99 1 year ago 2
what about NYC. NYC now has the lowest crime rate and the crime rate keeps dropping. The city also has some of the strictest gun control laws. Why is crime keep dropping in NYC when they have such strict gun laws?
KripDrip 1 year ago
@KripDrip i've heard statistics saying the opposite. i don't like to use statistics in my arguments like stossel does cus they can be manipulated. but ya, there are definitely confounding variables when talking about crime rates relating to gun laws. yes implementing gun laws may not reduce crime, but other things may.
Gamermatt99 1 year ago
@KripDrip I'm not sure if you've heard, but in some police precincts (Bed-Stuy is one I think) you have police commanders intentionally downgrading crimes to make it appear as though the neighborhood is safer than it actually is.
coyoteatquiznos 1 year ago
@KripDrip The pass crime rate in NYC and State was high due to a large number of street gangs. The number of street gangs is less thanks to programs and people who broke up and helped members to get out of the street gangs. But the rate is still higher than the cities and the states that allows open and/or conceal carry.

Is Stossel waiting for an engraved invitation or what? He knows the truth and he is way behind.
Those who know the truth consider you a lightweight, John. You are not going to get the keys to the city for "exposing gun control" when others have been doing it for years. Woohoo, you just got a clue! Now lets move forward, shall we?
bookhound63 1 year ago

@bookhound63 What are you trying to do? Discourage convert? Are you saying that if you were'nt hip to the truth for year that you are a lightweight? Only by encouraging those who have the open mindedness to reconsider their opinions--often in the face of elite hostility,do we have a prayer of protecting our liberties from those who would take them from us. Besides,of those others who have been "doing it for years", how many are award winning journalists with a golden microphone? Huh?
