I wonder if there is any production of the Wizard of Oz just as detailed as the book. The book was so awesome, it made the movie look like a joke. However, it's clear they came up with the next best thing in NY.
@MONOPOLY35 The problem with making a stage production based on the full-length novel is that it would have to be quite long. It is sometimes hard enough to get an audience to remain seated for the 2 hours and 15 minutes that the RSC adaptation runs much less the 3.5-4 hours that would be necessary to include all aspects of the novel.
@WizardofOzfan39 Yeah, I betcha it would be confusing to watch a 27 day storyline with characters in unusual forms, even if it was a Movie as long as "10 Commandments". The Witch of the West had no crystal ball (against common culture). This witch also had only one Super Eye. Having small mice rescue the main characters is far more difficult than snow coming out of nowhere. The characters also had favorite colors. Imagine all the green, red, blue, and yellow that would be needed, etc.
Well, actually Roseanne played The Wicked Witch of the West. Only actress in WICKED have played Elphaba, as WICKED is the only show to feature the character. WICKED and THE WIZARD OF OZ are two separate shows, thus Elphaba and the Wicked Witch are two separate characters.
Yes, "Wicked" and "The Wizard of Oz" are two seperate shows, but Elphaba IS the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wizard of Oz is Dorothy's side of the story and Wicked is the Wicked Witch's side of the story.
Aaron: Elphie is ONLY the Wicked Witch of the West borrowed from the MGM film, NOT the original one-eyed hunchback of a witch that was merely in two chapters of the Baum book that inspired everything.
DO you have the whole thing :) Could you put it up in small sections please. Or if not if you have Munchkinland or Poppies scene could you put those up cause i play Glinda in a production and would just like to see some of it.
i never got to go see it as a child! but i wished i did?

Micky Rooney was the Wizard. My friend, who is a stagehand at MSG got to meet all of them during that production.

Do you have the 1998 and 1999 Commericals of this production of Wizard of Oz? Both of them featuring Mickey Rooney.
broadwaymike92 3 years ago
I have the 1998 commercial, however, cannot upload it because it is an unsuitable file format for YouTube.
WizardofOzfan39 3 years ago
Unless you can record that Commercial with your video camera and it still can be on Youtube.

Roseanne is the best Elphaba ever. Since I saw WIcked evreytime i watch the Wizard of Oz I now call the Witch Elphaba.

And she's not even the film one...she's the musical's idea of the film one...they're totally unrelated, in my opinion.
