I am currently in this play and the diving is not the directors choice it is actually written in the script by charles mee. this whole play is very physical and odd. thats the way he wanted to portray it.
what I would say is definately a strange choice of movement to go with those lines! Very strange. I know it is the direction or choreography, by why. Clearly you are not the director.

@zubinmohamad It's the way it's written... The stage directions ask for it. This is the most literal interpretation I've seen so far.
